The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 70: Shape Change
The Captain of the Channeler Magus situated in Orion city watched her surroundings.
"There are about 12 D-rank dungeons currently," She said with the other two situated close to the edge of the town – they were behind large buildings and slowly eating away at the chunks of materials. The Dungeon gates had a sort of suction ability, it was passive and not quite strong but an ability that let them suck on anything within their surroundings... the suction force was slow but it was still effective and within another day, these large buildings were sure to collapse.
Of course that made the inside of the dungeon far more dangerous to be in, after all, with debris all over – an Adventurer could injure themselves easily.
She was supervising about ten Cavaliers, each of them lifting corpses and walking to a huge demarcation of land, it was barren of any buildings and instead one could see multiple Cavaliers as well as Magus working together to dig a huge hole.
The Cavaliers dumped the bodies into the hole which had been deepened to the point and was instead being expanded by Earth Magus – everything was a combined effort, everyone was working together to make sure that these corpses were properly disposed of to make this environment more safe and less toxic.
’After we’ve gathered every single trace of the corpses... I’ll destroy them,’ The Captain gritted her teeth and winced, she saw the lifeless body of a little girl being carried toward the pit, her eyes flashed with rage – she despised them, she despised monsters.
Ever since she was young, Monsters had always been the thing Humans were the most afraid of – they were the natural enemies of humans, they lacked a proper heart, they lacked the knowledge of what the value of a human life was, they deserved to die...
’All of them deserve to be blown off this fucking world!’

Rem seamlessly leapt from building to building, his soul energy and magic reserves were compressed to the minimum. A little slip up and every Magus would be heading in his direction. After all, he was already going in a suspicious enough path because why would any sane person be advancing in the direction that had already been marked as Offlimits... if Rem gave a little slip up in his magical energy suppression, he would be surrounded.
But Rem was already experienced in this, he soon arrived at the Dungeon gate that he had seen from the distance – he was not wearing anything that would link him to the mansion where he served as an Apprentice, he was wearing black overalls and the cape he had nabbed from the Channeler.
Rem stared at the white gate before taking a step forward, he expanded his senses and after making sure nobody was nearby, he entered the gate...
Rem felt his surroundings warp, the gloomy streets of Reifall being replaced by a slimy cave. Rem felt disgusted by just standing in the dungeon, the slime on his shoes sent a shiver down his spine.
"I entered a wrong gate," Rem muttered. The surroundings of a dungeon were random, sometimes it wasn’t necessarily a cave – it could even be a field, anything could happen within a dungeon and an Adventurer had to necessarily be prepared for anything.
Green slime painted the ground and Rem nonchalantly stepped forward, letting even more slime stain his shoes – there was no way to leave a dungeon once you have entered, at least there was no normal way, it was rumored that the Monarch of Light was able to teleport himself in and out of even S-grade dungeons at will but it was only rumors and Rem didn’t believe them one bit.
’The monsters in a dungeon are dependent on their environment so I should expect different ones,’ Rem thought as his eyes focused on the opening in front of him – soul energy flared to life around his right palm and a sharp blade was immediately formed.
Many moments later, two big blobs of slime shot into the room – both of them shooting through the air and heading directly for Rem.
’Slimeballs, E-grade’
Rem sighed as his muscles loosened, maybe he was expecting a little bit too much from the Dungeon – Slimeballs were basic knowledge and some could even be found outside the town, they looked virtually harmless on the outside and were very easy to kill. The only thing that they did was to suck on any energy that existed in a human’s body whether it was soul energy or magical energy, they could suck on it all and all of these energies could easily be replenished by regular rest or even potions.
Their high disadvantage is that they could only absorb the pure forms of the energy, if magical energy had been converted into a spell by a Magus or if a Cavalier enforced his fists with his soul energy, they couldn’t absorb it... Rem instantly shot forward and sliced through both slimeballs, their bodies dispelled instantly and slime painted the walls – they were dead but the System never failed to surprise Rem... it even gave him an option to absorb a Slimeball.
...
[Would you like to absorb 2 ’Slimeball’ Souls?]
[Yes / No]
...
Rem reluctantly hit Yes and felt the soul energies of both beings synergize with his own... his eyes locked with the system screen that appeared shortly after and he was left in awe, the next ability was pretty useful.
...
[’Slimeball’ souls has been successfully absorbed]
[’Slimes’ can be summoned]
[You have gained Unique Skill: Shape Change (C-grade)]
...
"A C-grade skill by E-grade monsters? Seems like there’s something about the Slimeball that we are not getting," Rem muttered under his breath as he decided to test his skill out – his gaze fell on his left hand and he willed it to change, magical energy pulsated around his arm and then it became green and slimy... Rem decided to push this ability even further as he slashed off his slimy arm.
It landed on the slimy floor of the dungeon and dissolved only for another one to materialize in it’s place, Rem stared blankly at the hand.
"Certainly this is useful in many ways," Rem said as he dispelled the slime that surrounded his arm, it was normal.
And with that, he had gained an extremely overpowered ability... Shape Change.
