The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 68: The Reward?! (Part 2)

The reward was a peculiar stone which pulsated with magical energy. It was an Empowerment stone and it was one of those rare items which could be used to double one’s magical reserves.

’This is much greater than what I was expecting,’ Rem thought. At most, he expected to receive a Magical weapon but this was unprecedented, this meant that the mayor was aware of the fact that he was able to use magical energy.

’Not like I was trying to hide it anyway,’ Rem thought, there weren’t much sensory magus over here in the town – they were plentiful over in the forest of Death but they were far too focused on the happenings of the forest to notice a kid using Magic.

Rem quickly pocketed the valuable, he would use it later. For now, it seemed that the mayor had something important to tell him which was why he hadn’t been sent away yet.

"In a month from now, you are going to travel into a B-grade dungeon with our promising Raiders," He said while easing back on his chair a bit, "Of course you are going to be protected by B and A grade dungeon raiders and your only option there will be to observe,"

"You and your fellow Apprentices are quite interesting figures," The Mayor said, "All of you are going to go on the expedition,"

Rem’s expression didn’t change, but inwardly he was excited – a chance to sit back, relax and absorb stronger monsters.

"Okay," Rem said, that was all he had to say, "Can I leave?"

"You’re in a hurry?" The mayor asked, "Can’t you spare a few minutes to visit Cynthia?"

Rem blinked as he stared blankly at the Mayor’s face. Cynthia had been spying on him a week prior and she seemed incredibly nosy – why would he want to visit such a nosy girl?

But the Mayor was the highest power in the town, if the mayor wanted him to visit Cynthia so bad... he would.

"Where is she?" Rem asked and soon he found himself in front of a door – a door leading to a girl’s room.

He had never been into a girl’s room before, he always heard that they were clean and well-kept but today would be the day he witnessed one to confirm if the rumors were true.

Rem opened the door quietly and peered inside.

"Nobody here," He muttered but his senses suddenly flared – Rem leapt forward and dodged a powerful strike to the head coming from behind. He turned around and saw Cynthia whose eyes widened in recognition upon seeing Rem.

"You’re here?" Cynthia asked and Rem nodded.

"You were about to hit me," Rem said, "What did I do?"

Naturally Rem wanted to know what he did to offend her to the point that she attacked him.

"It’s improper to enter a room without knocking," She said, "At least it’s improper to enter a girl’s room without knocking," 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Rem blinked at her words.

"You weren’t even in here," Rem said.

Cynthia gave a nervous laughter.

"I might have thought you were one of those creeps who enjoyed looking through a girl’s room for their accessories, especially underwear," Cynthia said, her nervous laughter ensued.

Rem didn’t understand, he was confused... wait underwear?

"What am I supposed to do with underwear?" Rem asked, clearly confused at her words.

It was Cynthia’s turn to be confused, she didn’t expect Rem to not know what men sometimes did with underwear.

’I forgot... he’s just 14 years old,’ Cynthia thought, ’but even 14-year olds... some of them are well-versed with all of these,’

’He might be a monster when it comes to fighting but... matters like these, he’s clueless,’ Cynthia thought, feeling the urgent need to laugh yet no laughter escaped her lips... If he didn’t know what it was, he was bound not to know what seduction was.

’How does he want me to do this?’ Cynthia thought while gritting her teeth.

"Nothing," Cynthia quickly spoke up, "I was talking about something else, but changing matters, you came to collect your reward?"

"Yes," Rem said, aiming to be as tight-lipped as possible about the gift, even if this girl was the Mayor’s daughter – that wouldn’t excuse the fact that it was a gift given to him, not her... she wasn’t supposed to know what he was given.

"And what did the mayor give you?" Cynthia asked.

"A storybook," Rem replied with a shrug making Cynthia’s eyes widen – a Storybook?!

"Erm... okay, what are you planning to do now? I heard you were on a Month’s break," Cynthia said.

"Well I was planning on going to Reifall and join up with parties," Rem said, "So I can improve my experience in the dungeon, it will surely be a valuable thing to have,"

Cynthia nodded, Rem wasn’t wrong, Experience in the dungeon was the greatest thing one could have but it was a bit dangerous – he would be going as a Baggage carrier too and not many parties liked protecting their baggage carriers since they were deemed as unnecessary weight but since it was Rem, Cynthia was confidently sure he would find a way to survive... she couldn’t help but worry a bit though.

"If there’s nothing more, I’ll be going," Rem said and began walking out the door, she cleared way for him to pass and watch him leave with a dejected expression on her face – she wanted to talk more.

After leaving the mansion, Rem took hold of the stone, he knew of the way to use the item and it wasn’t nearly as attractive as it was when absorbing a spell from a Diary – he crushed it and the magic seeped through his pores and entered his body, there was no physical change in Rem since Magic occurred on the spiritual plane.

"Now I can head to the Black market," Rem said, confident in his ability to evade any gangs – this wasn’t going to be like his first visit to a Black market, he was totally confident in dodging any trouble that may come his way after the transaction.
