The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 67: The Reward?!

The Cavaliers had returned from their Journey through the forest of death, the trail had only ended after the blood was submerged within a stream – which meant everything had been a wild goose chase, the killer had not only diverted their attention from themselves but they had also made sure that the Cavaliers were far away from Orion and Reifall.

As soon as the Cavaliers reached the station, they were immediately charged with investigating Reifall which was believed to have been destroyed, the Channelers accompanied them and they were surprised by what they witnessed upon reaching Reifall.

"Destroyed buildings," The Captain muttered, several buildings had been destroyed and it seemed like it had been a really intense fight.

The Channelers were currently spread over the town, they knew that they had arrived a bit later than the case was reported but there was bound to be some stragglers. Channelers were the only Magus with the ability to actually see the shape of the soul, they had more powerful spiritual senses and that was why they were valued. Although their perception couldn’t match the superior senses of Rem whose sole power revolved around the souls he consumed.

After exploring the wreckage of the town for some time, they finally arrived at the town hall and they noticed three bodies right next to each other.

"They look different," A Magus said while leaning closer to their bodies, her eyes shone and a sigh escaped her lips – she gritted her teeth.

’Their bodies aren’t like that of regular humans,’ She thought while observing the two big ones, they had protruding horns respectively on the left side of their foreheads, ’They look like that corpse that we received some days ago,’

She shuddered as she thought about it, even though the soul had left that body, the vitality was tremendously greater and the body wouldn’t rot for another month or two ... but the bodies she was seeing here spoke volumes about the opponent they faced, he had made sure to suck away all their vitality, their bodies were already rotting.

’The person that faced against them was certainly a monster,’ She finalized while standing up, there was nothing more they could do... Reifall hadn’t been too much of an important landmark since they didn’t provide resources but the quality of Cavaliers and Magus they produced was high.

This woman had deep black hair and seemingly blue eyes which shone brightly even in the darkness, her arms were folded and she was the captain of the Channelers in Orion town.

’There’s bound to be gates opening up here anytime soon,’ She thought and just as she finished, three dungeon portals appeared – nobody knew what caused them to appear or what phenomenon happened to trigger the gates but one thing was clear, the dungeon gates contained powerful monsters.

’C-grade dungeon gates,’ she thought as her team took multiple steps backward, ’They’re not really that much of a hassle,’

’But we need to be careful from now on,’ The Channeler thought while the wind produced from being a little bit close to the first gate blew her hair backward, ’There are lots of dangerous things happening now,’

Rem yawned, the week had gone by rather quickly and now he had to visit the Mayor for his reward. Of course he didn’t entirely believe that this would be a reward... but he still had to go there. He was staying in an inn with some of the money he had scored from ransacking the pockets of every single person in Reifall, profits couldn’t be wasted.

There were still some people that didn’t have pockets though and Rem couldn’t do anything to them but in terms of money, he had a lot right now – maybe about 1, 450 Bronze coins which was a high amount for him. Most of these coins were stored in his inventory so he wouldn’t lose them since he refused to meet the money changer, there would be a commotion if a 14-year old managed to get his hands on a thousand bronze coins which equated a silver coin.

Rem dressed up and left the inn, the Cavaliers and Channeler Magus had arrived the day before and they began assigning forces to Reifall, dungeon gates had began popping up but before they could deal with the gates, they had to bury the bodies. It was soon posted as a E-grade mission in the GUILD with reasonable pay, the pay for it was so good that Rem would have applied for the job but he had to visit the Mayor.

But this was a great opportunity for Rem to harvest more souls, the gates weren’t being watched over and since they just opened, the GUILD over here won’t assign teams to them until the corpses are cleared.

"Well that’s not my problem," Rem muttered under his breath as he made his way to the mansion, "I’ll try and clear as many dungeons as I can during this break, I’m sure that next month won’t be easy,"

Rem knew that there should be a reason why they were just given a month off, they had to prepare for something and it was certainly going to be dangerous.

Rem soon reached the mansion and the guard led him back to the room where he met the Mayor last time, the blond haired S-rank Cavalier was sitting cross-legged while folding his arms.

"You’re late," He said but Rem didn’t reply, instead Rem took a seat and stared at the Mayor directly in the eyes.

Looking at the blank lifeless eyes of the boy, the Mayor chuckled a bit eliciting a sweatdrop from Rem – why was this man laughing so much?!

"I love that look in your eyes," The Mayor said and adjusted his tie, "It’s almost like you’re not afraid of me, unlike the other workers I have here in the mansion,"

But the laughter died down shortly after and he threw something at Rem, the Apprentice caught it without flinching and looked at the reward.

’Is he for real?’

The reward was something that Rem hadn’t expected to receive but he nevertheless was grateful for it.
