Chapter 64: Magic Diary

"Do you know him?" Cole asked and Maybel shrugged.

"No, I was just asking," Maybel replied, "But it seems like you went through quite a lot, the aura around you has changed, you’ve become so much stronger,"

Cole chuckled nervously, all this time, Megan stared at her brother’s face – he looked extremely different from when he was fighting Andar, right now he looked very shy.

"What about Krista and Mika?" Cole asked only for Maybel to nod slightly.

"They’re fine, they just went to fresh-"

"Instructor Maybel!" A shout suddenly echoed through the room as both girls entered the dining room – Cole’s eyes widened as he noticed they were only wearing a set of laced bras and panties, and he could see the very distinguishable curves each of his fellow Apprentices had... all in a matter of seconds.

Upon seeing Cole sitting in the room, they immediately pulled back with embarrassed faces; they hadn’t expected him to be there.

"Ah Cole, you’re here," Mika said as she shot back, away from Cole’s piercing gaze.

"Yeah," Cole replied, "I didn’t mean to..."

"It’s fine," Krista spoke up, concealing herself from Cole’s sight as well.

They took some minutes to return and now they were wearing their tracksuits, both Apprentices looked at Cole and smiled at him.

"Didn’t expect you to be back so soon," Mika said, then her eyes landed on Megan, "Is this your sister?"

"Yup," Cole replied with a nod and Mika’s eyes began shining – Megan was really cute.

Megan curled her hair as she stared at the girls scrutinizing and gauging their strengths as well as their positions in her Brother’s life.

’Is one of them his girlfriend?’ She wondered as she stared at Cole again, his behavior seemed a bit off – this was not the brother that she remembered, he had been smiling ever since he got here.

But Megan decided to smile and wave at the two girls.

"Hey,"

A single word from her made Mika blush deeply, she had never seen such a beautiful young girl – although her soul energy was something to be wary about, she had a great amount of it for her age.

Instructor Maybel cut in shortly after.

"Did you happen to see Rem on your travel?" Maybel asked, "We haven’t heard from him in quite a while,"

Naturally she would be worried for Rem’s safety, even though he was strong enough... she couldn’t stop worrying about him, he was still a child.

Cole shook his head.

"I haven’t seen Rem yet, not since he left the mansion," Cole said, "But it’s Rem we’re talking about, he’s very cautious and will be perfectly fine,"

His words did a lot to calm them down, but Maybel’s worries weren’t completely drowned. The Shadow magus was still roaming about the streets, if Rem was in the town, he was in danger of interrogation and suspicion.

#####

The Male Healing Magus pushed open the door, revealing an empty bed. He sighed as he shut the door behind him after entering.

"So he took off, huh?" The Magus muttered under his breath, "It’s understandable; they usually take off like this,"

He moved to the window and stared outside, observing the setting sun. He soon shut the window and turned around only to see Rem leaning against the door, staring right at him with dead gray eyes.

"Hey," The Magus said, the air in the room was tense and Rem’s gaze deepened, "Feeling better?"

Rem kept looking at him, there wasn’t too much to him – his soul energy wasn’t worth a lot, after all, he was a Supporting Magus.

Supporting Magus didn’t have high magical reserves but their supporting spells were certainly a boost to the party’s strength – there were a lot of different supporting spells in the world and the most important one was Healing. Healing magus were worth the highest in the Supporting job, although their healing power diversifies based on their talent and amount of magical energy. The two magus that had healed Rem dealt with the wounds that he carved into himself using the Soul sickle, effortlessly with minimal magical expenditure.

"Yeah," Rem said absent-mindedly, "So you’re one of those Big-shot healers? My wounds were nothing to scoff at,"

He rubbed the back of his head with a smile.

"They weren’t too serious," He finally said, "Nothing serious compared to the wounds I have seen in this line of work,"

Rem shrugged and stretched his palm out, as if expecting something.

"Magic can only be learned by two ways; One, by the use of chants which invoke the power of the Magic spell or Two, by the use of a Magic diary," Rem said, "Spells engraved into the diary are absorbed and once absorbed, you don’t need to chant them out to use them, am I wrong?" 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

The man shook his head, although he couldn’t get to what Rem was saying.

"Your back pocket- you have a magic diary, I want it," Rem said and the Magus blinked.

"H – how did y – you know?"

Magic diaries cost a lot, leaving one with you was like asking to be robbed... the Magus was sure that he hid it properly but Rem had seen through it in an instant and then requested for it.

"Why don’t you buy one?" He asked.

"I come from the slums in another town, If I had enough money to buy one, you really think I’d be a Bag carrier," Rem replied while stepping forward with his arm oustretched.

The healing magus stumbled backward, the pressure emanating from Rem was something else – he was supposed to be the older one, why was he afraid of someone younger than him?

"Give me the Diary and I’ll let you walk out scot-free," Rem said, "If you don’t, I’ll kill you and take it anyway but I’m pretty sure your wife won’t want that,"

The Magus gulped, the ring on his finger gleaming in the lit room.

He saw the look in Rem’s eyes, they were emotionless but they were also filled with purpose... Rem meant every word. The Magus clenched his teeth, he regretted saving the boy only to be robbed after.

’Ungrateful,’ He thought under his breath while gritting his teeth.

"Don’t make me start counting," Rem said and to solidify his intentions, he took hold of a small knife on the table next to his bed – sighing at the apparent stupidity of these people.

The Magus reluctantly handed Rem a small book filled with not too many pages but the amount of pages didn’t matter, all you needed to do was to pour a little bit of magical energy into the book and all the information about the spell would be channeled into the brain within an instant.

As Rem took hold of the book, he pocketed it but his gaze never left his Magus, his hand never dropped as well.

"Might make a lot of money in the Black market," Rem muttered audibly, the Magus’s heart sank but he wasn’t out of the clear yet – Rem was still staring at him, the knife still pointed in his direction.

"I usually don’t do this but since I’m in a good mood, I’ll let you live," Rem said, "But you are not to ever say anything about this ever, am I clear?"

The Magus nodded.

"And in case you’re getting any ideas on reporting this to anyone, you should know that I spoke to your wife earlier and I know your address, not only that but your children ... I know their school as well," Rem said, watching the man visibly shake, "So a little kidnapping isn’t what we both want, have I made myself clear?"

"Yes," He said with a gulp, his gaze darkened as he watched Rem fling the knife aside and walk out the room. The door clicked as Rem left and tears rushed down the Magus’s eyes.

’What did I do to deserve this?’

Rem quickly left the GUILD and found his way into an alleyway, rats scurried away as Rem went deeper, only pulling to a halt after some time.

Rem pulled out the Diary and channeled Magical energy into it, the results were a bright shining light which engulfed his entire being, projecting the spell which he was to get to him.

[You have gained Unique Skill: Healing Power (B-grade)]

The light died down and Rem’s eyes locked onto the System screen, it was a B-grade skill?

"More than I expected," Rem muttered under his breath.
