The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 58: An Untimely Confrontation (Part 2)
The Shadow Magus took in a deep breath.
"Hold on, calm down!" He exclaimed but Cole refused to listen as his figure vanished yet again, the Magus was barely able to keep up with his movements – they were too fast, ’Like I said... what the hell are they feeding these kids?’
He began a sprint toward a cluster of trees, their shade also served as shadows and if Cole would come here, he would successfully be able to constrict the Apprentice. But the problem was that Cole was perfectly able to keep up with his speed, Cole was right behind him...
’Fuck, move!’
It had been a while since he had to run like this but it wasn’t for naught, Cole’s fingers found their way to the trigger just as they entered the cluster of trees. Almost instantly, tendrils of shadows wrapped around Cole like a constriction – they wrapped around his body, slithering all over him like snakes.
Cole spared a glance at the Magus and saw the man’s face was in the ground, the Magus quickly pulled his face out of the ground and rested his back against a tree.
"Now are you going to listen instead of trying to kill me?" The Magus asked with folded arms, shadows bubbled next to him, covering his face with an ethereal wall made of shadows just as Megan leapt to his side, throwing her fist engulfed with soul energy forward.
Cole’s eyes widened, in the shadows – this man was very different, he looked like any other person in the light but as soon as they got to the shade... he felt like an entirely different person, the aura exuding from his body, everything about him was different, it sent chills down his spine.
The shadows wrapped around his sister immediately, subjecting her to the same confinement.
"Were you in town last night?" He asked, Cole didn’t reply to his question which prompted the shadows to constrict him tighter yet the Apprentice didn’t budge. The Magus could understand what was going on, Cole had achieved a higher amount of physical endurance but that didn’t mean his sister had done the same.
"Just answer my question and she doesn’t get hurt," The Magus said, even though his shadow constriction couldn’t hurt Cole – that didn’t mean that they couldn’t restrict the boy, they were doing an excellent job at it.
"No I wasn’t, I was at Reifall," Cole said and the Magus’s eyes widened in surprise, Reifall town wasn’t too far away but nevertheless it would take a long amount of time to head from Orion to Reifall and Cole couldn’t have possibly made a round trip. But even though... He had to investigate further, he would never be where he was today if he simply believed what others told him.
"Yes we were," Megan said, "Everybody there is dead,"
Megan’s eyes trembled as she said that and the hold of the shadows slightly decreased, Cole gritted his teeth but suddenly realization flashed.
’Why did he have to wait till when we entered the shade before using this spell?’ Cole thought, ’His spell – everything originated from the shadows and if I can get just a little bit of sunlight on us, they will disappear,’
Cole didn’t know who this man was or why he was asking these questions, he didn’t care frankly but what he knew was that this man was an enemy – an enemy that had him and his sister. The trees rattled, the wind blowing their figures, the branches flowed around in the wind.
The Shadow Magus gritted his teeth but nevertheless remained professional, but he hadn’t noticed the wind yet... a glimmer of light met the tendrils, the tendrils holding him vanished just as quickly. Upon seeing Cole free from the binding, the Magus pointed at Cole and a single tendril shot forward from the ground but Cole had already taken off, vanishing into thin air.
The Magus sighed as he noticed Cole had taken steps back and was now in the sunlight, a place where his shadows did not reach.
"Look I’m not your enemy," He said, "But I will become one if you don’t answer my questions,"
"As you can see, we have a big investigation in the town – the graveyard," The Magus said, looking at whether there would be any hints of recognition in the boy’s eyes, but he found none... they were completely seethed with rage.
"He’s not the one," The man said while Cole shot forward, closing the distance between them quickly – he wasn’t hesitant anymore, hesitation would cost him a lot. Cole gripped the blade he had pulled out from the sheath, it was instantly engulfed in crimson soul energy.
"Goodbye," The Magus said as Cole slashed forward, only for his blade to meet nothingness, the man in the shadows had already vanished... his sister fell to the ground on her knees, she hadn’t been hurt.
’I’ll ask Instructor Maybel if she knows of any kind of Magus like that,’ Cole thought.

The party, although small and only armed with one Magus had been able to decimate any monster that came in their way which was surprising for Rem – they hadn’t even taken a break yet, and the monsters weren’t a weak bunch of push-overs.
’These people... especially the Magus at the front,’ Rem thought as they continued their trek, the Monsters had come down by quite a bit and it was only a matter of time before they reached the Boss’s doors, ’The formation is the same but they are experienced, and they have that sense of togetherness – they’ve been in similar situations before,’
Rem had only been absorbing the souls and expanding his army, but behind this togetherness... there seemed to be a severed link somewhere, it was hard to pinpoint but as everyone seemed to be perfectly calm and co-ordinated, someone amongst them was not.
He witnessed out of the corner of his eyes something horrific, one of the Cavaliers pushed off the ground, his blade ignited with soul energy as he stabbed it forward, right into the heart of his target – a blond haired Cavalier which stood right in front of Rem.
’I see,’ was the only thing Rem could think of.
