Chapter 51: Cole’s Awakening (Part 1)

"You’ll come back?"

"Yes Megan, I’ll return,"

"You’re my son... it doesn’t matter to me if you have soul energy or if you don’t, you’re my son and nothing will ever change that,"

"To become a full-fledged Cavalier with your Soulless nature... It’s not impossible; I’ll believe in you every step of the way,"

"Cole, just because you don’t have Soul energy doesn’t mean you’ve lost your purpose in this world,"

"Soulless! Soulless! You’re too damn weak!"

"No, Battling you would be a waste of not only my time but energy as well, It’s already certain who the victor will be,"

Cole could feel everything – their voices echoing in his head, compelling him further away from the realm of sanity, his muscles vibrated erratically as more power within him awakened. Cole was feeling intense pain, his muscles were vibrating because their structures were rearranging, the constant cycle of breaking and rearranging was necessary for adapting to Cole’s newly released power.

Cole screamed hoarsely, with a force that his throat was nearly ravaged by – he could never forgive... he could never forgive the person that caused this to befall the town where he was born in, his eyes turned blank as the pain echoed through his entire body, but he wasn’t going to deter – he had to, he had to live through the pain and take revenge on them.

Cole’s body bulked up, steam surrounding his figure as he raised his hand to his face, covering his eyes as a result.

’What’s happening to me? What is this power that’s bubbling within my veins?’ Cole thought as he pursed his lips quietly – there was no question, he couldn’t feel anything within his body, everything had been unleashed. Cole stood up, tears dropping down his eyes as he sighted a weapon left in a corner, the jagged blades he usually used.

’There’s soul energy in it,’ Cole thought and it was quite a hefty amount of it, almost like it had been concentrated through the course of months but if used in battle with someone like Tobi – this preserved soul energy would be gone in less than thirty minutes.

Cole raised up the blades by their chains, he could only feel the Soul energy within it by how heavy it was and right now, the blade wasn’t too heavy for him to carry. He stabbed it into the wall and noticed the wall shatter before his very eyes as web-like cracks protruded around the point of impact, breaking the wall through as a result.

’What the hell!’

He was surprised but not unfocused, his Mom and Dad were long dead... but his sister, his sister was not here – and she was meant to be at the house most of the time, practicing for her time to become a Cavalier which could only mean two possibilities: Either she was at his Aunt’s place which wasn’t too far from their house or she was captured by the Murderer, the amount of time he had to check both was limited but Cole couldn’t give up.

He grabbed hold of the side of the shattered wall, revealing the dark roads below – littered with corpses, he took in a deep breath and then leapt down, once he landed on the ground, he sprinted off.

A young boy stood amidst the chaos and destruction, at the roof of the town hall – two horns protruding from his forehead and his eyes painted with a dreadful crimson.

’I always knew that pathetic fool, Tobi was going to die,’ The boy thought as the wind blew his black hair around, ’It was only a matter of time – instead of killing the humans in that town instantly, he chose to submerge himself within them for a year, honing the human ethics and after letting them grow stronger, he decided to kill them off,’

’Noble beings like those deserve their deaths – but something bugs me,’ The boy thought while staring ahead, his crimson eyes highlighted by an ethereal crimson light, he couldn’t sense anything unusual – there was no soul energy, neither was there magical energy so the boy was forced to believe that there was nothing else that could stand against him.

’But then why... why do I get this feeling?’ He thought in confusion, to let go of this feeling, he turned around to the crimson haired girl tied to a pole behind him, her crimson hair flailed loosely in the air as the wind ensued – her deep blue eyes glowed as she gritted her teeth hatefully.

"Trying to fight your detrainments will only pain you more, as they were created from demonic energy," The boy informed her with a malevolent grin on his face, "Unless you want to hurt yourself physically, but you should know I harbor a need for your body,"

"Not only do you have a fairly decent amount of soul energy, you also have potential to become a Magus – by mating with a human, I can ensure that future generations after me have human-like characteristics and are able to blend with humans more," He said while taking hold of her chin, "You have quite a future ahead of you, one as my breeding machine,"

The girl shuddered at his words – she didn’t understood what they meant but she was sure that it had something to do with children, something she wasn’t prepared for yet.

Two figures appeared behind the boy, they were taller but far much weaker than the young demon in question. Besides they only had a horn protruding from the middle of their foreheads, their magical energies pulsated through the air as they knelt to the boy.

"We are done with our mission, there is nothing else of value that lay within this town," They said at the same time and the boy nodded in disappointment – it was just a minor town, he looked over the horizon and Megan noticed he was staring right in the direction of Orion town where her brother had gone to train... for the first time ever, she regretted ever holding him back to that promise. If Cole came, he would be killed just like everyone else and then she wouldn’t be able to forgive herself.

They stood up and looked at their young master, he hadn’t said anything yet but it was clear that he was thinking about something – then there was a bang sound, it echoed through the silent air and a bullet propelled at such a force that it ripped through the skull of the first tall demon, it’s body plummeting backward to the ground – the young devil stared at the devil free-falling to the ground. He had already expected something like this to happen but what he didn’t expect was... for the reason that his instincts were in alarm to appear before his very eyes.

Wind swirled in the air as all of them locked eyes with a crimson haired boy, standing on a roof not too far away from them – Megan noticed her brother but something seemed different about him, he still didn’t have any soul energy but... he didn’t seem human either.
