Chapter 48: A Break

Cole became a witness to the most absurd thing he had witnessed – Rem going through almost every dumbbell that adorned the gym with relative ease...

’What the hell!’

Rem easily raised up a dumbbell which was made of magical steel, it was even hard for Cole to lift it but Rem was doing it.

"This seems a little bit heavier than the others," Rem said, he didn’t have much difficulty in lifting this one but it was better than nothing and besides – he was traumatizing poor Cole who was having trouble with a punching bag.

Cole shortly returned to his own exercise, clenching his palms and striking the training bag with even more force.

’Why is he here?’ Cole thought silently, more punches befalling the training bag as Cole drew in quick breaths within each punch – the magic steel vibrating under the force laced behind his punches, he expended more energy into them.

Rem sighed as he continued lifting the dumbbell without much effort, at the corner of his eyes, he sighted something – another dumbbell, looking exactly like the one he was holding... it seemed to have the same weight as this one and perfect for lifting.

Under Cole’s shocked eyes, Rem raised the second dumbbell effortlessly and began heaving both of them up simultaneously. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

’He can’t be serious... I don’t believe it,’ Cole thought and completely stopped punching – his arms felt numb but even that couldn’t replace the surprise on his face right now, those two set of dumbbells were the most toughest set in the gym and Rem was lifting them without much difficulty.

After some time of weight lifting, the butler drove both of them downstairs much to Rem’s disappointment; he wanted to delve more into the gym room and try to increase his stats even more but there was only one way to do that ever so easily – by visiting a Dungeon.

"A Break?" Mika asked, surprisingly staring at Maybel who stood beside the table they were having breakfast.

"Yes, that’s right," Maybel replied, looking at each and every one of the Apprentices, "A break that extends for over a month – as a future Cavalier, it is important that you get enough time for rest. Some of you have families to return to, while others don’t... if you have no plans for leaving the mansion, you can remain here and within the facilities,"

Cole clenched his spoon while a smile adorned his lips – he was going to meet his sister no matter what, and this opportunity was just gold for him. He wondered what her smile would look like.

Rem’s poker face hid his true emotions but he was rather glad for this break – he would visit the Graveyard and increase his magical energy reserves.

A graveyard was a place where a large collection of souls are held within, after death, a Human could choose on whether to pass on or to stay behind... of course, the souls staying behind were souls which had either been bound to the Earth by unfinished business, and Rem planned on using these souls to their fullest potential – the only other thing they could do which had significance in this world, converted into Magic points for him!

"Well I’ll stay at the mansion," Mika said, "and keep up with my training, what about you Krista?"

Krista nodded, she was going to do the same – not like she had anyone to return to as well.

"Then we can train together," Mika said excitedly, during the battle with Tobi – Mika had gotten to see the other side of the girl, once they started training together... they were sure to bear fruits and who knows, she might even land another Convergence.

"What about you, Rem? Are you planning anything?" Mika asked but Rem didn’t answer, he only continued eating his rice quietly – far too engrossed in his plan of absorbing souls to notice the azure-haired Apprentice asking him a question.

Mika sighed, why did she even bother asking him that question?

"Cole once you get home, give your sister a greeting for me," Mika said with a small smile as breakfast ensued silently, Maybel had long since went back upstairs leaving the Apprentices to their devices.

"Sure," Cole said only for the clanking of Rem’s plate to be heard, he had pushed it aside and began heading upstairs... he had finished breakfast.

’If only he was a little bit more sociable, all of us could be...’ Mika thought with a sigh, ’Don’t think about it too much,’

Not even up to thirty minutes later, Rem was at the front gates folding his arms while wearing his black tracksuit. The guards were informed of the break but they knew that Rem didn’t have any parents.

"Where are you going to?" The seemingly lazy guard asked, his back slumped against the wall.

"A relative’s place, my uncle," Rem replied, "Besides it isn’t your concern where I am going, the fact is that we are out on a break,"

Reluctantly the guards opened the gates and Rem walked out, finding himself in the streets of the Orion city – the gates were clinking shut behind him but he didn’t care in the least as he began a small walk away from the mansion, it was just morning and he needed to stay till the evening as it was mostly during the times that there was no sunlight that human souls are more active.

Rem patted his pockets, feeling for the remaining money he had and he found what he was searching for – the change from his last purchase which would help a lot, now he could just rent a single room in an inn and sleep there till it was time to go scavenge in the evening, everything was already falling into place. Rem began walking away, his eyes scanning the streets to find the nearest Inn where he would lodge till the evening but a small sigh left his lips as he drew to a stop in his walking, finding a pair of azure eyes locked onto his figure- he was literally annoyed at this stalker he was having
