The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 37: Chaos In Orion Battlefield (Part 4)

Maria stared at the Thunderbolt descending rapidly in her direction – her eyes flashing with murderous rage as she glared at the man that caused it all... Tobi.

Each Thunderbolt was heading for each person, including the Apprentices that were still in the battlefield – a clear testament that Tobi was planning to kill them off in one strike yet her expression remained resolute as she sprinted toward the Demon, her fists clad in soul energy which revolved like terrific flames – Tobi took a step back and pointed a finger at her, the thunderbolt descending upon the Instructor in an instant.

The ground parted as shards of rocks rose into the air, a brilliant shockwave blowing across the battlefield until nothing but the charred remains of the battlefield and smoke remained... Tobi was assured that Maria was dead, as the force generated by lightning was-

"Even that-"

"Will not-"

"be able-"

"to defeat me," Maria huffed out as the smoke around the crater vanished, revealing her charred body... burnt strands of hair fell to the ground yet there was something that remained unchanging – that murderous intent.

’She’s crazy,’ Tobi thought as he took a step back, the Instructor’s body engulfed by crimson aura as she took off heading in Tobi’s direction, ’Apparently also the one most troublesome out of them all,’

Maria pulled herself and closed the distance between herself and Tobi, rearing her fist backward and exploding it forward with soul energy – Tobi dodged the strike and once again the air vibrated, as if the punch targeted the very fabric of air around Tobi as the strike hit.

Maria threw more punches but Tobi weaved through each and every one of them without much effort yet he couldn’t ignore the force laced in each and every punch – the air rattled with each blow but Maria remained steadfast in her strikes, she couldn’t allow Tobi get free space to move or else that would be it for them.

More shockwaves echoed across the arena, each thunderbolt finding it’s mark and decorating the battlefield in craters – Apprentices who had not comprehended the power got killed... some injured more than others but one thing could not change, Tobi was getting overwhelmed.

With each missed strike, instead of Maria to lose soul energy – she seemed to be gaining it, drawing even more power from her soul in a valiant display of stopping the demon in his tracks but Tobi, clever as ever had adjusted himself to her speed, he was able to read her strikes more fluently now and began dodging at an even higher speed.

But the experienced Cavalier was just getting started – she reared her right fist backward, clenching it a force that made her palm bleed and her bones to rattle as she thrust her fist forcefully forward, it smashed right into Tobi’s chest and familiar black bursts of lightning shrouded her.

’Not again!’ Tobi cried out inwardly as he raised his arms, trying to prevent it but he couldn’t – reality shattered around them and the only thing Tobi could see was eternal darkness as the fist covered with black bolts of lightning sent pain jolting through every part of his body... sending him flying backward.

Maybel witnessed the second Convergence of today – her eyes going wide as she inhaled a deep breath, she was exhausted by not only protecting herself from the Thunderbolt but Mika as well, but even though her bones were creaking with exhaustion – there was not much she could do to assist Maria at this point, she was way beyond feral.

Tobi’s back smashed into the enforced rocky walls that surrounded the wide arena and the rock parted, pushing the Demon deeper within the wall but he bounced out quickly and his regeneration kicked in.

He had been hit by Convergence twice and not only did it deal a huge dent in his stamina but also, it empowered the user even more, even with Exhaustion... Tobi was not sure that simple Exhaustion of the body would be able to stop Maria, she pushed past the limits of her own body, petty exhaustion didn’t matter to her.

And just like Tobi thought, The Instructor entered a combat stance slowly after – letting the invigorating soul energy flow through her veins as crimson aura wrapped around her entire body.

’I feel like I’m about to wither away,’ Maria thought inwardly, barely managing to keep her consciousness in check – the soul energy flowing through her veins felt amplified and she had gained greater control over her soul energy but the cost was exhaustion... normally it wouldn’t have been a problem for her, but coupled with the great exhaustion she was already facing by pumping soul energy into her blood erratically so she can remain standing, Maria was already at her limit.

’I’ll fight till my body cannot move,’ Maria finalized, pursing her lips as she leapt into action. Her body was on the brink of exhaustion but she pushed it more – her priorities were already set, to deal enough damage for Maybel to defeat it while she was knocked unconscious.

Maria quickly made an appearance beside Tobi, bringing her foot to the side and aiming to smash it into his gut but the devil was having none of it- grabbing onto her foot and getting directly hit by the Soul energy that he tried so hard to dodge... he felt his bones creak but pain was only temporary, Tobi pumped soul energy into his palm – making it glow in an ethereal gold before raising Maria into the air and smashing her back into the ground with full force.

That single strike knocked all the air out of the Instructor, her soul energy reserves were instantly cut off as her body floated to dreamland – her bones creaked from exhaustion and it was then that Tobi realized she had been pushing herself to the limit.

"You were a dangerous opponent," Tobi muttered under his breath as the stormy skies flashed, darkness befalling the arena as the Demon prepared to raise four fingers up yet again and summon another volley of his powerful attacks upon them.

But he stopped – the clanking of chains made Tobi look up, facing his next adversary with a surprised gaze.

"Ah, Cole?" Tobi asked with a taunting smile, "What brings you here?"

Cole dragged his weapon on the ground, with each step he took, the clanking of the chain became more furious and audible – Cole breathed, preparing his body and mind for what ensued next.

Cole threw his weapon forward, watching it shoot through the air like a bullet as it headed in the direction of Tobi – only for the Demon to catch it mid-flight with both fingers and smile as he watched the blades tremble at his touch.

’They were more delicate than I imagi-’

Cole drew back on the jagged blade with the chain, a murderous glint escaped the blade as it sliced through both of Tobi’s fingers before returning to Cole. Tobi barely winced in pain at the attack, he only grinned as his fingers grew back almost instantly but it was clear that Cole was not done –

He swung the blade through the air masterfully, using the chain as a guardian angel to control the movements of the jagged blade.

’I might not have Soul energy,’ Cole thought as the blade rotated in the air like a spinning drill, Cole threw it to Tobi who was waiting expectantly for Cole’s last ditch effort at survival but as the blade was coming... Cole decided it would be time to close in the distance.

Although he didn’t have soul energy to amplify his physical movements, Cole had trained himself to the bone in using Flash movement – he managed to now move at high speed for the 1.2m mark but not only that, he had also managed to use Flash movement twice in a row easily extending his speed and coverage by another 1.2m by sacrificing his Endurance, something he had quite a lot of.

Cole’s feet dug into the ground as he began timing it perfectly, he wouldn’t rely so much on the blade if he was confident he could win against Tobi – as Cole’s blade shot through the air and Tobi stared at it meaninglessly.

Cole began moving, his body blurring in an instant as he cleared the distance between himself and the devil quickly – his movements were fluid and well-timed.

Cole appeared in front of Tobi’s face, whirling his feet around for a spin kick landed right on the cheek of the devil that did not faze at all – despite the intensity of the Physical power contained within the strike but Cole’s main focus wasn’t on the strike, he had succeeded in distracting Tobi for a moment while the blade descended.

"Insolent bug," Tobi cursed under his lips as he raised up a single finger, gathering magical energy on it only for the spear to stab him in the shoulder- piercing deep into his skin.

Tobi took a step back, the blade was radiating with soul energy... but it wasn’t possible, Cole didn’t have any, did he?

Cole appeared in front of him, grabbing hold of the chain with a smile on his face – he was thirsty for vengeance.

Cole watched the Thunderbolt head toward him with shaky hands – his eyes were locked upon the intense thunderbolt descending from the sky.

"I’m... going to die," Cole realized.

He could see every outline of the Thunderbolt by now, it was coming closer and closer but Cole couldn’t move – he was tired of being Soulless, his body, his mind – everything yearned for a change.

’Maybe if I died... maybe if I died... My next life, I’ll have a soul,’ Cole thought but a man in black appeared in front of him, clenching a sword tight with his brown hair in the wind.

The man poured soul energy into his sword, letting the azure aura cover the blade.

"Stay back, Kid!" He said while raising his sword into the air, "I might not have enough reserves to take out this thing but... I won’t give up,"

Those words stirred something within Cole – Giving up... his eyes widened as thoughts began to surge through his very being.

"Big brother, you’re not going to give up, are you?" A crimson haired girl who sat on the sand told Cole.

Sweat drenched his figure as he stabbed his jagged blades forward at the training dummy with intense perseverance laced within his strikes yet Cole turned to the girl with a smile.

"No, I’ll never give up," Cole said, "And I know training with Master Drew will yield perfect results, I’ll be able to come back stronger with or without any Soul energy,"

The girl smiled.

"You’ll come back?" She asked and Cole nodded.

"Yes Megan, I’ll return," Cole replied and went back to his training, "I promise,"

The memory burst into shards, leaving nothing other than emptiness in its wake, tears painted the ground below Cole as he gritted his teeth.

’I forgot...’

’How could I forget?’

At that moment, Cole felt his insides burn – not only did he have the waiting arms of his Sister but something else... his eyes landed on the head of the Apprentice who had taken her time to help them. He felt so stupid for wanting to give up – he hadn’t gotten his revenge yet.

The Thunderbolt was already nearby, towering directly above them but the Cavalier dressed in black didn’t give in – the Magic Iron sword covered in bluish soul energy stabbed into the Thunderbolt, dealing no visible damage.

The Cavalier gritted his teeth as he used both hands to exert more force, yet with the force he pressed on the magical attack, there was no way he could break through... he slowly bent unto his knees as the Thunderbolt pressed him down more.

"Lend me... your soul energy," Cole said while extending his jagged blade forward to the Cavalier – The Cavalier in black.

"Why?!" He nearly screamed out, his desperate attempt to fight against the Thunderbolt was coming to a halt – if he even tried to move, the bolt of lightning would lock on and attack.

"Trust me," Cole said, his voice low and full of confidence... The Cavalier sighed and extended a hand out to the blade, pouring soul energy within it’s jagged form.

Cole remembered clearly: The special attribute of this blade – Soul Energy Absorption, he realized he had overlooked such a clever function which would ensure that even without Soul energy, he would be able to use Soul energy with his blade.
