The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 197: The Changing Ruins
Rem entered the Mayor’s office, the door clicked to a close behind him as Rem soon stood in front of the man that headed Ember town – it was because of this man that Ember town was not in shambles and was fully functional, despite the dungeon raid that had occurred.
He was contrary to Rem’s expectations, a slim and tall man with sleek brown hair and emerald green eyes, his soul energy radiated outward and Rem could feel his strong presence... it wasn’t up to an S-rank but it was stronger than most B-rank Cavaliers.
"Welcome Solo Raider," The Mayor said, he sat behind a table and beckoned Rem to sit on the empty chair in front of him, "Please have a seat,"
Rem gave him a small respectable nod, even if he was stronger than a great deal of Raiders – he still couldn’t compare to Rem. Rem sat down and the Mayor gave him a wide smile.
"I want to personally thank you for the Break yesterday," The Mayor said with a wide smile on his face, "Your assistance really helped us a lot in that dire time,"
"It was no problem," Rem said, "But is that the real reason you called me here for?"
The Mayor chuckled a bit before handing a slip of paper to Rem.
"You’re sharp, you catch on quickly," He said, "I have a personal mission for you, the pay is extremely high,"
Rem took the paper and read the contents, his eyes temporarily widening... the mission wasn’t going to be too hard but the contents of the mission surprised him.
"Cecilia Yokama," Rem muttered, his voice trailing off.
"Yes she’s a Beastkin," The Mayor said, "And the daughter of one of the most powerful B-rank Cavaliers from Orion Town, we’re lucky to have her,"
Rem grinned – the Mayor’s eyes widened as he saw a change in Rem’s facial expression.
"I’m a big fan," Rem said, "When do I go and where are they?"
The mission was simply to support the Party that had requested help from a powerful Raider, it wasn’t that huge in Rem’s honest opinion but it only got better since Yokama’s daughter was involved.
"In the north, they are in the Changing ruins," The Mayor said, "It’s hard to miss it, the ruins have several dungeon gates especially a C-grade gate that’s on the brink of becoming a B-rank,"
Rem nodded, he had first-hand experience on how troublesome a B-grade dungeon could be... if there was another one on the horizon and a dungeon break occurred, the effects would be disastrous especially on a small town like Ember.
"It’s fine," Rem said, setting the paper down, "I’ll go help them immediately, now you were talking about payment,"
The mayor smiled and retrieved a pouch full of silver coins from his pocket.
"I’ll pay 30 Silvers as a down payment and 50 Silvers once you get back," The man said and threw the pouch at Rem, the Cavalier caught it and kept it in his pocket... their transaction had been made.

"You’re going out alone?" Pari asked, worry etched on her pretty face – she was genuinely worried for Rem’s safety, "Are you taking the children with you?"
"No, they’ll slow me down," Rem replied while scouring through the closet in his room, "I know I kept that somewhere around here,"
Pari gave a sigh of relief, they were in Rem’s room and she was watching him prepare. He hadn’t elaborated too much on the mission he was given, he had simply told her that the Mayor tasked him with clearing a dungeon a little bit far away from the town.
"Just be safe," She told him, "I don’t want you coming home with injuries,"
A small clang echoed as Rem pulled out his Magic Steel sword from the closet, it’s sleek figure gleamed and Rem quickly saddled it to his waistband, prepared to pull it out at any given moment.
"I’ve never gotten injured Pari," Rem reminded her, "You should stop worrying about me,"
Pari clenched her fists, biting her lips... her worries were baseless, he was strong and wouldn’t get hurt that easily yet she couldn’t help but worry, her heart was beating rapidly at the thought of him leaving her.
She barely got used to him coming home at night, and now she had to stay without him for days, maybe weeks?
"When will you be back?" Pari finally asked, noticing Rem had already worn his cloak again.
"One week minimum, two weeks maximum," Rem replied blandly, he was a bit annoyed that he had to skip out on the training that he was supposed to give the twins, "Just make sure to tell them to continue their morning training and try to practice their soul energy,"
Pari gave a small nod and before she blinked, Rem was gone – he had vanished within the blink of an eye. She felt grieved; like a part of her had just been lost... she was missing him already.

Rem arrived at the northern outskirts of the town; a rough rocky path lay ahead of him. Unlike the lush fields and forests which were in the other outskirts, the northern part led to a mountain.
The Changing Ruins used to be a mine which generated a lot of income in the past, a lot of people used to work there and that ensured few dungeon gates opening but in a single night, all the workers were killed by monsters from a dungeon break and since then, it was deemed dangerous.
But that wasn’t why the mine was given the name – Changing Ruins... after the death of the workers, people that managed to get into the ruins were faced with a strange discovery... The mine seemed to change as the hours went by.
The entrance vanished, the person would find themselves in a different part of the ruins and they only had an hour to locate the entrance again before the same thing being repeated – it was never-ending and a good deal of Raiders had died in the Changing Ruins due to that.
’Time to begin the mission,’ Rem thought while shooting forward, leaving an afterimage behind.
