Chapter 192: Dungeon Break

On the outskirts of Ember town, a dungeon gate surged – it’s blue figure vibrating as it expanded by the second and then it stopped, the gate let off a bright light as a Deathwolf emerged into the land of the living... the land where Humans lived.

The afternoon breeze hit against the faces of the trio as they navigated through the Ember town market – Pari was heading out to shop for things to cook for dinner and the twins had decided to join her, they didn’t have anything to do as Rem had left early as usual, bound to come home in the Evening.

"So this is the marketplace," Kiara muttered under her breath, there was distinct chattering coming from every corner, the vendors conversed with each other swiftly and the area was also bustling with activity, a lot of people wanted to just buy what they came for and leave.

"Yep, and it’s really large too," Pari said, "We’ll find things for dinner but the both of you have to stay close, alright?"

Both of them nodded and a sudden silence befell the entire market, an area that had been bustling with activity once before, an area that had been lively was now forced into a hush... Pari looked ahead to see what caused it and then she saw it, a monster.

Shivers ran down her spine as she clutched the children’s palms, there were more and more of them making their way into the market... Deathwolves and goblins, monsters known for their terrorism had made their way to the market.

And then hell broke loose.

People tried running away but the monsters proved that they were faster than regular Civilians; the deathwolves began devouring the unlucky ones that were within their striking range. Pari had already taken off with the two children in tow, she clutched their palms tightly... Everyone knew what this meant, they were taught this in schools.

A dungeon break, a phenomenon that would occur if a Dungeon wasn’t cleared. The monsters escaped from their dungeon and begun to wreak havoc on the outside world and at this point, Ember town was not an exception.

The screams of people being eaten alive ruptured through the air but Pari kept her face steady, despite her lips visibly quivering... she had to value the safety of the twins over all. They had deviated down a route where they lost the others that were running as well, everyone went their separate ways.

Unluckily for them, their hastened run was pulled to a stop as a goblin soon appeared on the path – standing menacingly with it’s wooden baton, it sneered at them and Pari felt her heart stopping once she locked gazes with this monster, it was anything but pleasing... Just seeing those green eyes that the goblin had put a lot of pressure on her heart.

The goblin began charging at them, raising it’s baton over it’s shoulder. Pari didn’t know what to do... she had protected the children, steering them away from harm and now they had run into a dangerous Monster, her eyes gradually lost focus as she stared at the ground, she had lost all hope of living.

*Clang*

Pari’s eyes snapped open, in time to see Luke locked in a standstill with the goblin, the goblin’s baton was strong but Luke countered it with a thick steel pole, the pole bent a bit under the pressure exerted by the goblin’s baton.

Luke gritted his teeth and made sure to gather strength in his arms, pushing the goblin’s baton backward enough for him to move out of the way. The baton slammed on the ground and dust engulfed both Luke and the goblin.

*Clang*

*Clang*

The sounds of struggle could be heard from within the dust, the battle had continued... Luke skidded out of the dust and coughed a bit, the steel pole he was holding was bent into multiple places but he wasn’t giving up.

"That thing sure is strong," He muttered to himself, but isn’t this what he had been training for? The training that Rem had given them was to prepare them to face against Monsters in the dungeon, "I can’t defeat it like this,"

His breathing hastened as the goblin walked out of the dissipating dust, the baton was positioned over it’s shoulder and it was deviously laughing.

’What did Master say about that energy...’ Luke thought, the goblin moved forward – it’s body turning into a blur, it was running to Luke at full speed, ’Soul energy,’

He remembered everything Rem had said about soul energy just as the opponent was upon him, the baton shot through the air but Luke countered it with his pipe that shattered upon meeting the baton mid-air, the youth had dodged the attack but he was in close proximity with the goblin, there wasn’t enough time to move away.

The goblin swung the baton at him again... 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Luke had the odds against him...

He was facing against a Monster that he couldn’t out-do...

He knew if he died, the goblin would go after the two of them next...

A lot went through his head at that moment and then it all snapped, Luke raised his palm and caught the baton much to everyone’s surprise – crimson energy burned around his palms, soul energy akin to flames.

His arms trembled but it wasn’t due to fear, it was due to adrenaline that was pulsating through his entire body. Luke felt stronger than before, faster than before – he felt different.

’I can handle the pain,’ Luke thought as he looked at the goblin, his eyes filled with hatred and disdain for the Monster, ’But anyone trying to hurt my Sister or people that have been nice to me... I’ll defeat them myself,’

And with that, he threw the baton aside. The goblin didn’t have enough strength to deny his grip so the baton went flying through the air, smashing onto the side of a building.

"I wasn’t taught how to fight with a weapon," Luke said, "But my fists... I’ll use them to bring pain and disaster upon you,"

With that he swung a punch right for the goblin’s face, gritting his teeth as his fist made impact... a sickening crunch echoed as the goblin was sent shooting backward, skidding across the ground like a pebble.
