Chapter 188: Lon’s Café

The trio, consisting of Master and slaves walked down the streets of Ember Town – some gazes were thrown their way immediately, it was the first time they were witnessing the Solo Raider with company.

Stalls riddled the streets and the curious gazes of the children eyeing each stall entertained Rem a bit.

"When are we going to eat?" Luke asked while rubbing his stomach, the confidence in his eyes hadn’t died down... it was still there yet apparently toned down, the boy was hungry after all.

Rem would have loved to bring them to Wyn’s Café, the place he had gone for tea but the alcoholic, drunken scene wasn’t advisable for children so he went to a place less popular... the people that worked there knew him, he always came there for lunch after every raid.

They soon arrived at Lon’s Café that towered above them, it wasn’t as big as Wyn’s but it was also a good one.

’The town can have Cafés but not libraries,’ Rem thought, the whole thing made less sense to him but he wasn’t in the position to think about it – those were the worries of a higher-up like the Mayor, not someone like him... besides he had his own worries to think about.

Rem opened the door of the Café and the two children entered inside, unlike Wyn’s, the air was calm and the customers were silently having their meals although the distinct sounds of chattering could be heard, it was nothing compared to the sounds of men drinking and making merry – wasting money after a successful raid.

"Woah," A little gasp escaped Kiara’s lips as she felt the prestige in the establishment, it was almost like they didn’t belong... Rem held both of their hands.

"Hey! What you-"

Luke flinched under Rem’s chilling gaze and the three of them walked toward an empty table, after they each took a seat, Rem called for the waiter.

"Sir, Thank you for coming today," The waiter said with a slight bow, Rem was a prestigious customer – his daily orders were a huge part of the earnings that the Café made.

"I’d like the menu for the both of them," Rem said, and the waiter brought out a pamphlet for the two children – after handing it to them, he turned to Rem.

"Are you not ordering today sir?" He asked.

"I’ll order when they’ve picked theirs," Rem replied with a calm face – he nearly chuckled when he saw the twisted faces of the children as they read the menu.

’He must be testing us,’ Luke thought, there were surely expensive things on the menu that he wanted to try but he wanted to be thoughtful and not drain on the pocket of the man that was going to take care of them. He gave a small nod to Kiara, a silent understanding was formed between the twins.

"We’d like some Iced water-"

"Bring us three deluxe specials," Rem interrupted, "With some tea as well,"

Luke felt a lump forming on his throat and so did Kiara – the deluxe special was at the top of the pamphlet and it cost a total of 1 silver coin... A silver coin could do a lot of things and the fact that they were spending it on food made them feel uncomfortable.

The waiter left and Rem gazed at them both.

"Were you about to go for the cheapest thing on the list?" Rem asked, knowing fully well why they did it, "Are you thinking I can’t afford to pay for such a meal?"

"N-no," Luke stuttered, a bit of red painting his cheeks – he was embarrassed, "We didn’t want to be an inconvenience, you’re already taking care of us an-" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Rem patted his head, silencing the boy in an instant. Luke couldn’t even shout in denial, something felt undeniably warm about Rem’s palm.

"I’m the one taking care of you now," Rem said, "Feel free to go all out, that’s an order,"

#####

Rem sighed in dismay.

’Feel free to go all out? What was I thinking?’ Rem thought as he gazed at the several empty plates in front of him, they had finished several deluxe specials in a span of a single hour – they hadn’t been fed too well at the Slavehouse and their Master had given them an order, ’To go all out’... It wasn’t their fault.

"Ah, I’m full," Luke said while stretching and patting his stomach. The defiance in his eyes had long since vanished and Rem found him bearable... to a degree.

Kiara only stared at the table, her plate empty as well. She had eaten a lot and was afraid to look Rem in the eyes, she could almost envision the disappointment.

Rem took out a pouch from his pocket and threw it at the waiter casually, the jingle of coins alerting everyone in the entire room.

"Our lunch was a total of ten silver coins," Rem said, counting the plates, "There are thirty silver coins in the pouch I gave you so we’ll use them for lunch tomorrow as well,"

The waiter nodded, still feeling the weight of the silver coins in his palm... he could clearly see why this guy was a valued customer; he was such a big moneybag.

"Let’s go," Rem said, leaving the clean-up to the staff in the Café.

#####

"Master, did you really have to show off all that money?" Luke asked as they followed next to Rem – he was leading them down a winding path, the stalls around them were getting lesser and lesser as they continued walking.

"No," Rem replied, "In truth, I was just lazy to take out the money and start counting it,"

Luke coughed – he couldn’t believe it.

"You have so much money," Kiara finally said, "You were able to buy us and even spend a lot on us despite just meeting us today... I’m very grateful,"

Luke took after the example of his sister and flashed a smile at Rem.

"Yeah, thanks a bunch Master," Luke said, "You’re the best,"

The twins didn’t want to let go of this opportunity... he was much more different from the other Masters that they had up until this point.

Rem gave a small smile upon hearing their compliments.

"We’re finally here, the Residential area of the town," Rem said as the stalls had vanished and all that was left were a lot of houses, "Let’s go,"
