Chapter 186: Slave Trader (Part 2)

Although an older person would be ideal for battle, Rem couldn’t overlook the possibility that while an Older person had power – the children had the most potential, it was far much easier to break the ice with them and hone their skills from a young age.

Living with Drew and the others had taught him that much.

Rem was pushed out of his thoughts as he heard a bashing sound in the distance, Randy sighed.

"That kid is at it again," Randy muttered under his breath as the racket continued, Rem was curious what was causing these sounds. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

"You see, I have a pretty feisty kid here," Randy said, "They’re twins, a boy and a girl and they stay in the same cell but the boy is a handful,"

"Take me to them," Rem said.

’If he takes those kids off my hands, it’ll be perfect,’ Randy thought.

#####

The rapping sound continued as a little red-haired boy bashed against the cell with his bare fist.

"My sister needs water!" He shouted out, "I need water!"

"Here he is," Randy walked in with Rem and they stood in front of the cell, "The troublemaking brat,"

"I’m not a brat," The boy shot back, his blue eyes glaring at Randy.

"I bought them from a Slave trader in Onio town," Randy explained, "I was told that their parents died while having a huge debt and they were sold to the slave trader to repay such a debt – they’re meant to be household slaves but there have been so many complaints from buyers,"

He glared at the boy.

"I’ve incurred so many losses from you and you still want water?" Randy asked with a frown expression on his face, "I should be giving you a knuckle sandwich for lunch,"

Rem’s eyes widened as he looked at the feisty boy in front of him, there was a girl with similar looks at the side of the cell – she was hugging her knees.

’Where have I... seen this?’ Rem’s eyes widened. He was positively sure that he had seen someone similar to them before.

’I remember now,’ Rem thought with a small smile, ’I see,’

"I’ll take them," Rem said, his crimson eyes staring at Randy, "How much for the both of them?"

Randy’s eyes widened, he had seen a great deal of people purchase these children and return them – they were that much of a hassle but there was something different about Rem to him and he couldn’t help but wonder what he needed these kids for.

"I’ll take 30 Silvers for both," Randy said, a slave was usually more expensive than that but the twins had been bought and returned over and over again. Their value had drastically reduced and Randy was happy to finally get them off his chest – even if it was for a little while.

Rem stepped toward the cell, his crimson gaze locking with the blue eyes of the youth. His lips moved and a chilling voice escaped his throat, one that sent chills down the boy’s spine.

"Once you’re out of this cell, you better behave yourself – I hate troublesome children," Rem said, the boy took a step back but met Rem’s threat with his confident gaze.

’Perfect,’ Rem thought, the boy in front of him was perfect for the role that he had planned. He needed a confident lackey that would be ready to face the monsters with all of his might. His gaze went to the girl in the corner and he turned over to Randy.

"Is there anything wrong with her?" Rem asked, he wanted to be sure that he paid for what he had been promised – he wasn’t willing to run around for any sickness that he hadn’t been made aware of.

"She’s perfectly fine," Randy spoke with confidence, "Unlike this noisy dimwit, she’s the strong silent type,"

"Who the hell are you calling noisy dimwit?!" The boy shouted back, his voice flaring challengingly but that confidence disappeared shortly after. His skin paled and purple sparks of lightning surrounded him.

"Argh!"

He fell to his knees, the lightning crackling around him as he held his chest. The shocks stopped shortly after and Rem stared at the boy, raising an eyebrow.

’That’s an intricate pattern,’ Rem thought, a foreign symbol of magical energy was on the chest of the boy in front of him – this was much more different than the runes Rem could use to heighten his various stats, a skill that he had gotten from the Rune Hound... This rune was connected directly to the soul and every time the slave did something that objected the slave contract, a shock would be sent to the soul.

’A shock to the soul will momentarily paralyze the body,’ Rem reasoned as he watched the sparks disappear, the sparks were the result of the shock – he concluded that the whole Slave system was complex but it was to his advantage.

"Hell," The crimson-haired boy muttered as he clutched his chest, his head heaving up and down – the lightning finally dispersed and he calmed down though he couldn’t help but throw a wary gaze at Rem, he was going to be their new master...

"Might I ask what you’re planning to use these kids for? House-hold slaves?" Randy asked, he really hoped it was not that – the boy had a reputation for ruining the lives of his male owners especially when they tried anything with his sister, he was a very overprotective brother.

"That would be a waste of their talents," Rem replied with a shrug, "They’re going to be heading into dungeons with me,"

Randy took a step back but a wide grin spread across his face.

’Guess I was worried for nothing,’ He thought while reaching into his pocket and bringing out a set of keys, he walked over to the cell and picked a certain key.

"Now we’ll have to change their slave contract," Randy said as he inserted the key and twisted it, unlocking the small gate of the cell, "You’ll be their master from now on,"

Rem nodded – he wasn’t too excited about training children but they were far more valuable assets than even his former comrades, there was a lot of time to change these children...

There was a lot of time to make them stronger.
