The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 185: Slave Trader
A lot had transpired ever since Rem left Orion and he had been handling it quite well, the loss of comrades he was familiar with still pained him in his heart.
’This is why I hate getting attached,’ Rem thought – a part of him still wanted to remain in Orion, alongside the others but he knew that wasn’t realistic... he could do it if he was a normal person but he was anything but normal.
Having awakened the power of a Monarch forgotten in the passage of time, the demons knew more about his power than him. He was curious, the Monster Monarch system didn’t divulge any information to him and he was all alone, he needed to know more about this power – he needed to feel more... he needed to find more about himself; the full extent of the power that the Monster Monarch was able to unleash.
Rem walked through Ember town, the air was warm as it blew against his face. The Civilians walked around, making the streets lively. It was far more different from Orion where one could find the streets riddled with different Cavaliers and even Apprentices – the population of Ember town was only about three thousand people which was above average for a regular town in the world.
There was an Adventurer GUILD in the center of the town right next to the town hall, big towns like Orion has several GUILDS due to the fact that there were a lot of Raiders within the town, these GUILDS would then be able to funnel funds to the mayor who would then use it to renovate.
In the case of Ember town, it only had one GUILD and several parties raiding and contributing everyday.
’This town lacks a lot of things Orion had,’ Rem thought, it was certainly hard being the mayor – there was a town school but there was no library to access knowledge, ’I hope the Mayor is planning on building a Library soon,’
There was also a lack of inns for travelers to stay in, there were a few inns within the town but most of them were occupied and the others needed to be renovated by the owners – the living conditions were bad and they outrageously charged two bronzes per night for such an inn.
There was another reason Rem was friendly with the bartender; it was because he lived with the Café owner... it had taken a lot of persuasion from the Bartender’s side as there was barely any inn available when he had arrived, Rem of course paid for being in the man’s house despite the man insisting that he shouldn’t.
"Now I need to get a loyal ally," Rem said, taking a turn to a dark alley – he was fine with moving around by his lonesome but he figured that he needed some allies, one that he could fight the demons with. Doing everything alone was efficient but it wasn’t the only way.
And what better ally would there be than Slaves?!
Yes, Rem would be adopting slaves. He had spent quite some time researching about how the Master-slave bond worked and he agreed that it was much more efficient pinning his hope on a Slave than doing so with a regular person, whether it be Beastkin or Human.
There was a certain reason he picked Slaves – Betrayal... A slave couldn’t betray their master no matter how hard they tried, the slave mark engraved on their chests would burn their very souls if they attempted to.
’A slave mark is complex stuff,’ Rem thought, ’For it to be linked directly to the soul – these slave traders are surely dangerous,’
Rem reached the end of the alley and knocked on a beat-down wooden door, the knob was crooked and the wood was old... Rem had to hold back his strength a lot to avoid breaking the door on the first knock.
*Knock*
*Knock*
The door was unlocked from the inside and it suddenly swung open revealing a middle-aged man who towered over Rem with matted black hair and a hairy beard. Rem and the man locked eyes for a bit before Rem decided to break the silence.
"I’m here for our transaction," Rem said, his tone bland and devoid of emotion.
The man chuckled and patted him on the shoulders.
"Come on, you shouldn’t be so rough around the edges," He said, "Come in,"
"Randy, huh?" Rem eyed the name tag on the left breast of the man’s shirt as he entered inside – the door was soon locked behind him.
#####
They moved down a flight of stairs and revealed another room, Rem smelt the horrid stench in the air and his face scrunched a bit.
"So how old are you?" Randy asked.
Rem knew what he was getting at – anyone was able to buy a slave for the right price and the younger the person was, the more they had to pay. His answer would determine the profits that Randy was going to make from this transaction.
"18," Rem said, he didn’t want to part with more money than needed... besides there wasn’t a way for him to check Rem’s official identification so lies like this were fine.
They soon stopped in front of a cell with a curvaceous human beauty with long brown hair and blue eyes.
"She’s a sex slave, I’m sure that’s the kind you came here for," Randy said while observing the slave that was clothed in a pair of bra and pants, she sat in the corner of the cell with chains bounding her hands.
Rem sighted her, at a glance, he could see that she was traumatized and wouldn’t be good for the kind of fights that he had planned – she was the complete opposite of what he wanted and besides...
"I want them a little younger," Rem turned to Randy and said, his words sent a shiver down Randy’s spine as a bit of sweat rolled down his forehead.
’I guess Pedophiles still exist in this world, don’t they?’ Randy thought.
