Chapter 179: Murderer

Yokama didn’t have words to describe what he was feeling right now – he wasn’t sure what to call it, he had faced Monsters ranging from the E-grade to even B-grade and each time he saw one, he felt fear... it was human to feel fear when facing against a monster but as the Beastkin stared at the boy in front of him... that fear was multiplied by several folds.

It felt like he stared at a monster much more powerful than anything he had faced so far... his knees threatened to give out below him due to the sheer amount of murderous intent escaping from the boy, it was so hard to compare him to the little boy he had seen in the casino on that day.

That boy had looked innocent, untainted by the dark side of the world, he had barely faced any hardships.

But now, due to Yokama’s actions on that night, that innocent little boy had become a Monster – one that had been tainted over and over again by the dark side of the world, faced a lot of hardships and garnered an immense amount of strength and now this Monster was looking down on him, trampling on him, determined to make him suffer "slowly".

Rem had been a master of concealing his emotions, keeping them hidden under a poker face so that he wouldn’t be read. But in the face of the man that had triggered the destruction of his family, the man that had killed his father and led to the death of his mother a year later – Rem couldn’t help it... he couldn’t help revealing them, the hatred burned deep within his heart, invigorating his entire soul.

The surrounding area wasn’t left unaffected by Rem’s rampage, he was driven by Revenge – blind to the damage that he was causing... the camp was in a state of terror as Rem’s soul energy kept expanding, revolving like a never-ending cyclone.

"Die!" Rem shouted out and raised his right arm forward, the appendages bent to his will - they floated in the air above him, their numbers easily reaching fifty with an insane amount of soul energy being pooled within them. With a swift movement of Rem’s arm, the appendages shot through the air and toward Yokama who gripped unto his sword with ferocity.

Yokama’s soul energy shrouded his sword; he took in several deep breaths, preparing to use his unique skill – Phantom strike. It was a peculiar skill that allowed him to channel his soul energy to attack his target, when activating Phantom strike, his attack would even be able to slash through monsters/items with the hardest or even the softest skins and this same rule applied to magical spells as well as soul skills.

As the appendages converged, Yokama pushed off the ground and made a powerful slash upwards with the aim of severing all of the Appendages coming at him in one go but Rem was one step ahead. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

"Phantom Strike!" Yokama exclaimed, the glow on his sword intensifying as he looked at the several Appendages that he was about to cut through but the others soon moved out of the way, leaving only one.

Yokama gritted his teeth as he slashed through the Appendage, it dispersed and his skill deactivated – he took in several deep breaths, making sure he kept ahold of his weapon while he was still falling from the air.

’Calm yourself Yokama,’ The Captain urged himself continuously, trying to calm himself down but he couldn’t... The Murderous intent filling the air was slowly gnawing at his mind, dismantling him from the inside.

It would only be a matter of time before he was unable to think rationally, Rem had made sure of it. The other appendages moved toward Yokama’s back but the Cavalier sensed them before they got any closer.

He spun around and gritted his teeth, gathering his soul energy and unleashing it in another strike.

"Phantom Strike!"

He took out five Appendages with that single slash and Yokama felt very pleased, until he got slammed in the face by another Appendage... this punch was packed with force and momentum, sending the Cavalier shooting toward the ground like a speeding bullet.

Yokama crashed face-first into the ground and let out a small yelp; that punch had been packed with enough force for the Beastkin to know that the ones he had gotten earlier were just warning shots. With his back exposed, Rem’s grin only widened as he saw the Beastkin’s tail flailing wildly in the air as Yokama tried to pull his face out of the ground.

"I heard that for a Beastkin, their tail is very important to them," Rem said, an appendage turning into a tendril at his command – it was his soul energy after all, he had complete control over the shape of it.

"Cut it," Rem ordered, his eyes sparkling with malice. By the time Rem’s words reached Yokama’s ears, it was too late... his tail had been slashed cleanly off. A loud scream echoed around the camp, the shrill voice was surprisingly familiar as everyone could place it was the Captain.

The Vice Captain rushed forward, her eyes on the back of Rem – she didn’t mind the crimson coating of aura around him, the only thing she wanted was to avenge her Captain... he had been toyed with since the start of this battle.

"Rem, you die by my steel!" She cried out and moved forward, only to get caught by an appendage – Rem turned to her and frowned.

"Didn’t they ever teach you if you are planning to sneak on someone, you shouldn’t go shouting their names?" Rem asked while the Appendage threw her away, back through the way where she had come from – The Vice captain gritted her teeth, she was not being acknowledged.

’He tossed me aside like I was a piece of trash,’ She thought as she soon slammed her back into a rocky wall – the reminder that they were still within dungeon territory.
