Chapter 161: The Prodigy Of The Blade (Part 2)

Olivia’s attacks were all dodged effortlessly, no matter how much she increased her speed – as every lingering moment that passed felt like hell to her, Zarchary toyed with her speed, his wide grin growing ever wider with each attack he dodged.

’It’s as if he’s playing with me,’ Olivia thought while she gritted her teeth, the muscles in her legs tensed and her eyes widened – sparkling with intensity as soul energy shrouded them, Zarchary raised an eyebrow at the youth and smiled.

"Taking me with your full strength huh?" Zarchary asked, jumping backward a bit. Olivia didn’t mind the space between them, her body shooting forward and turning into one with the wind itself – Zarchary extended a single finger forward, defending against the sword strike that came down... the sword and Zarchary’s finger clashed and Olivia’s slash was stopped mid-air much to her surprise.

She had moved with a lot of speed to let her momentum build up before bringing the sword down but even then, Zarchary had managed to defend against it flawlessly. The Apprentice grinded her teeth against each other, the sword being set ablaze by purple soul energy yet even with the boost in power, Zarchary didn’t move – he didn’t even feel it.

"Honestly I thought your full power would be something more," Zarchary said, causing Olivia’s eyes to widen as he brought his other palm forward, lacing it with magical energy and slamming a powerful punch right into her gut.

Olivia felt her whole world around her spinning as her body flung through the air violently, heading toward the cave – her pupils had vanished and blood escaped from her rosy lips and nose, a testament to the amount of power in that single punch.

’If you ever feel like you’re in danger... you’re facing a powerful opponent that you stand no chance against winning,’ Her mentor’s words rung in her head – Olivia could even see the vivid face of the green-haired man that had educated her in the way of the sword, ’When you feel like you need to protect something... you can use the technique Olivia, don’t hold anything back,’

His face as well as his words faded; Olivia’s eyes slowly regained focus as she careened to the cave’s entrance.

’If I don’t kill him now,’ Olivia thought, strengthening her resolve, ’Then he’ll hurt the others, Matthew and even Tero...’

She hadn’t once thought of fighting for someone other than her brother but lately she had grown close to these people, she couldn’t bring herself to leave them to their deaths... especially the man that had saved her, Tero... she couldn’t...

Soul energy ravaged her eyes with a force akin to flames as Olivia flipped in the air, planting her feet into the ground and stabilizing herself much to Zarchary’s surprise.

He looked at his fist.

’I held back too much power,’ He thought before looking back at Olivia, clutching her sword tightly with both hands and giving him a stare filled with hatred – murderous intent leaked out of her body and Zarchary felt it.

’She’s making it clear that progressing into the cave is like a death sentence, if I try to move again, she will kill me with her own hands,’ Zachary surmised, he had seen far too many murderous intents in his life – this wasn’t anything unique although it was commendable since it was a very troubling process to create Murderous intent.

Zarchary took a step forward, a mocking smile plastered all over his lips. Olivia growled and her hair began to rise, floating into the air above her – The demon noticed that the air around her changed instantly.

The purple energy shrouding her eyes had vanished, being replaced by blank pupils... the faint booming of lightning echoed in the air, Olivia’s soul morphed – her soul energy rapidly being drained and sucked into the singular dot which lay dormant within her soul, a singular dot of magical energy.

’If you find yourself against an Opponent that you cannot beat, I would advise you to flee but in scenarios where you cannot flee or you have something to protect,’ Olivia thought, reminding herself of the sacrifice she had committed to, ’Then you sacrifice your future as a Cavalier, awakening the magical energy that lay dormant within you – with your love of the sword, you can become one of the people you’ve read about in books...’

"A Magic Swordsman," Zarchary muttered under his breath, letting his silver hair flow in the strong wind from Olivia’s awakening.

A Magic Swordsman wasn’t rare, not as rare as people thought but it was certainly strange for someone to continue using the sword even after awakening their magic, after all Magical energy granted people the power to shoot fireballs, summon waves of water, control thunderstorms – Magic granted Magus many things and not many people were willing to focus on honing their skills with the sword after that.

But Olivia had a talent for the sword, she bore a connection to the art that even Zarchary could see – she wouldn’t abandon it, even after awakening her magical energy. Her mentor was also sure that Olivia would become a Magic Swordsman... she had a lot of potential.

Olivia’s yell pierced through the air, alarming even the people in the cave as the ground began parting beneath her... When awakening one’s magical energy, the element mattered a lot. Since the element was a part of one’s soul, it would naturally be what the user was in tune with and Zarchary already knew the element that the girl would awaken.

Her body sparkled in blue flashes of lightning as her yelling intensified, her soul being refined to fit the magical energy that now coursed within it. Olivia gritted her teeth, stomping a foot on the ground in rage. A small crater formed beneath her foot, sparks of lightning emanating from it as she walked forward – creating more craters as she walked, her sword dragging against the ground.

Upon awakening as a Magus for the first time, there would be a lot of residues of magical energy from the awakening – the element wouldn’t be precise yet as the user had little control over it, and so the raw energy would ensure maximum damage to victims. For an element as erratic as lightning, it was a dangerous effect.

The awakening of magical energy is a painful one but what’s the saying? Grind till all the pain goes away!
