Chapter 157: The Glacian’s Territory (Part 8)

Rem and Tero sat in silence, eating their meat without haste – two cans of water procured from Tero’s storage ring beside them.

"Don’t you think meat has become too much?" Tero asked, he was pretty much tasting it everyday... he wanted something other than meat, perhaps a few vegetables would do the trick, "We’re eating it all the time,"

"It’s the only source of food here in the dungeon," Rem replied with a shrug, taking a bite from his meat, "Unless you want to risk your life and go eat a Mushroom monster,"

"Hard pass," Tero shot back with a chuckle, "Although I thought there were fish monsters in the lakes,"

"Fish monsters?" Rem asked, he had seen a bunch of time and they didn’t have any life in them, "I doubt such monsters exist in this dungeon,"

"I haven’t seen it with my own eyes yet," Tero replied, "So I couldn’t know whether it’s real or not, you heard a lot about me, what about you?"

Rem locked gazes with Tero for a little bit before turning back to his meat – his eyes fixated on the goal of devouring the meal wholeheartedly.

"Unlike you that has interesting stories to share and unique eyes to brag about," Rem said, "Me – as for my life, just say it’s been a whirlwind, I used to live in the slums of Onio town,"

Tero’s eyes widened, he had known that Rem was not from Onio but living in the slums there? The slums was a degrading place, no matter the town – it was in this place where robbers, pick-pockets and other criminals were born and yet Rem didn’t seem like one.

"Life was well... the worst," Rem said, "Some days I had to go without food, others without water, I didn’t even know what a bed felt like but I put that behind me, it’s in the past,"

The short reveal had been enough to shock Tero who couldn’t believe his ears but he pulled himself together quickly, the warmth of the flames playing a great part in it.

"And I thought I had a bad childhood, did you live with your parents?" Tero asked.

"No," Rem replied quickly, "They were already dead,"

Sensing that he had hit a nerve, the Silver-haired Apprentice finished his food quickly and went to the tent they were going to sleep in.

"You’ll take the first shift right?" Tero asked before entering the tent, Rem nodded and the Apprentice entered the tent – determined to fall to a deep sleep.

#####

"Damn, my back hurts," Tero complained, they had decided to split the shift for watching over the tent evenly so they agreed on everybody gets four hours, Rem was pretty satisfied with the way things were coming and unfolding within the dungeon up to this point.

Both found themselves lost in another one of the many caves within the network of caves. The presence of the monster they were hyped to face seemed more fainter than before, warning them that they had gone on the wrong path.

"You should do some exercises in the morning," Rem suggested to Tero, knowing full well that his words wouldn’t last a minute against the insults that this girl had to spam, "I haven’t gotten that kind of pain before,"

"Because you do warm-ups before morning exercise," Tero said, they continued walking not the slightest bit worried about where they were or what kind of monsters they were going to be facing. "Warm-ups make it easier for you, I had to rush it all up without getting to stretch my bones yet,"

The growling sound of a monster pulled them out of their conversation, Rem immediately looked around – The Hellhounds had come to take revenge for what he had done yesterday... he didn’t see them as opponents though but rather their lunch.

Hellhounds were basically the main thing anyone feeds on in the dungeon – which was why it was a very important source of meat.

"This meat will last until we can find something more suitable than it to eat," Rem said, "Something not poisonous as well – I’d hate to be food poisoned,"

"Yeah same here," Tero said.

"Did you inform the others that we’ll be gone?" Rem asked, "So that they won’t start panicking, remember you have new guys as well,"

"Yeah I did," Tero replied, assuming a combat stance, "Mika and Olivia are there – they’re strong enough to defend against a lot of things,"

Upon hearing the answer, Rem tore through the air holding his shortsword in his palms. He began dealing with the Hellhounds – after all they were more than twenty in number.

Tero clenched his fists and they surged with azure soul energy, he sprinted forward having recovered from the wounds he got yesterday by a Healing vial from Rem although his clothes were a bit torn.

Tero moved with speed and leaped into the air, landing on the snout of the first Hellhound – his soul energy output intensified, ready to match that of the opponent. He brought his fist down right on the Hellhound’s eye and blood splashed everywhere as the eye of the monster burst open, it wanted to let out a scream but was quickly halted by Tero who had leaped it into the air and punched it on the forehead.

That single punch rattled it’s entire body but Tero didn’t stop the onslaught, he brought out a weapon and stabbed it right into the Hellhound’s forehead multiple times until it collapsed and died. He glanced at Rem who was decapitating Hellhounds easily, with a speed and strength that surpassed his maximum.

’He said he’s from the slums,’ Tero thought, ’The heirs of several mansions tried their hardest, we were pushed to become stronger than anybody else, our training was double what regular Apprentices took – and yet we can’t seem to match someone who came from the slums,’

He couldn’t understand it, it made absolutely no sense... yet that’s what he was witnessing with his very own eyes, the indescribable feeling of weakness filled him – he was inferior.
