The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 154: The Glacian’s Territory (Part 5)
Tero gritted his teeth as the Rune Hound approached him, he had initially followed Rem’s plan in the hopes of only facing one of this Monster – he knew how powerful the monster could be from the time one of them had attacked their camp while they were still together with Captain Yokama... It was able to kill a Cavalier much older than him easily, and a powerful member of the attacking force to boot.
Yet the excitement pounded in his heart, the chance to face a powerful opponent... he only hoped the Rune Hound would be able to survive his attacks. Tero entered Olivia’s battle stance, his sword poised as soul energy surged around the blade – without a second’s hesitation, Tero vanished into thin air, closing the distance immediately and bringing his sword down.
The Rune Hound dodged his strike, letting the slash hit the ground. The collision created a small crater but Tero pushed forward, continuing to slash and stab at the Monster, some of his attacks managed to graze the Rune Hound but the Monster wasn’t idle.
It slashed at Tero as well as the Apprentice had already poured soul energy into his eyes, enabling him to read the attacks before they struck, with this, he was able to avoid taking any damage from the Monster.
The Rune Hound leaped backward, letting out a howl as blue energy gathered around it’s forehead – the blue energy took shape of a symbol, a rune... Tero immediately put his guard up on seeing that the aura around the Monster had changed, it immediately shot forward, a blue aura wrapping around it as it moved past him, his eyes were unable to keep up with it’s movements.
It appeared in front of Tero and began it’s attacks, forcing the Apprentice onto the defensive. With it’s enhanced speed, Tero was unable to dodge most of the strikes and found himself being struck in several places by the jagged claws of the monster, sustaining more injuries as the battle pushed further.
Tero raised his sword, defending a slash – his body skidded backward as his back was soon against the wall, quite literally. He could feel the cold rocky surface against his back as his eyes had settled now, his eyes had adjusted to the speed of the Monster.
Tero pondered on a way to slow down or even stop the Rune Hound from moving as the Monster relied solely on movement to get around and he got an idea – The tendons... he would aim for the tendons, even one tendon would be able to limit the Monster’s movement, giving him the very opening he needed to kill it once and for all.
Tero felt a little bit hot in the cave he knew was chilling and his eyes instinctively went to Rem – they were filled with curiosity as Tero saw him expertly wield flames relentlessly. He was well aware that Rem had both magical energy and soul energy like him but he didn’t expect Rem’s magical element to be fire...
’It’s a total contrast to his personality!’ Tero exclaimed inwardly, he had been taught that Fire Magus had a hot-blooded personality, often leading them to rush into situations – but Rem was not like that, he was cold and calculating... Ruthless in a way but he was perfect for the job, he dealt with enemies perfectly and was the best team-mate that Tero could ask for within these unfamiliar walls.
His eyes fell upon the Rune Hound once again as he decided he would ask Rem about the flames later.
"Since he’s going all out," Tero said while clenching his free palm, the constant crackling of knuckles echoing from them, "I’ll do it as well,"
A blue aura radiating with magical energy appeared around his palm, wrapping around it slowly – The Rune hound could sense the danger and it immediately took several steps backward but Tero wasn’t letting it retreat any further as the aura suddenly started taking the shape of an orb... Tero channeled his magical energy into maintaining the orb and it’s shape expanded, as the energy within the blue orb swirled, the surroundings around Tero began to crack – rocks, pebbles and some small debris were immediately sucked into the orb as it’s size expanded.
’Just like how the molecules can be detonated,’ Tero thought, ’Manipulation of this spell takes a lot of time and effort to achieve but once done,’
Tero willed it to shoot forward, right toward the Rune Hound and the orb didn’t skip a beat, moving toward the Rune Hound. It grew larger as Tero concentrated more magic into it and the larger it grew, the more it sucked from the surroundings – larger rocks made their way into the orb, their varied molecular structures falling apart within the orb.
Rem who had just finished taking out the core of the Rune Hound saw the body of the corpse soaring through the air and into the massive ball of blue energy... He looked at Tero who was sweating a bit – a testament that controlling this attack was not as easy as it seemed.
The Rune Hound had already begun backing away, pulling away from the immense suction of the orb but it was unable to as Rem appeared behind it and with a single kick, sent it sailing through the air – before it crashed on the ground, it was picked up by the suction from the orb and was sent to the heart of the beast, the center of the attack, it’s molecular structure being broken down within the orb.
Rem watched the orb shrink as the magic energy within it receded, before it eventually vanished – the pressure made from the suction vanished and Rem caught something falling through the air.
"A magic stone," Rem muttered under his breath – if the Monster had been completely destroyed within the orb, why hadn’t the magic stone suffered the same fate?
Tero arrived at his side, wiping away a thin bead of sweat from his forehead.
"The composition of a magic stone isn’t something a half-assed attack like that would be able to destroy," Tero said while Rem’s eyes widened momentarily.
’Half-assed?’
