The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 153: The Glacian’s Territory (Part 4)
Rem drew upon his Magic Steel sword, unsheathing it from the confines of the sheath and defending himself from the claws of the Rune Hound that had come crashing down upon him, attempting to snuff away his life.
The sounds of powerful alloys clashing rang through the air, sparks appearing at the point where they had collided. A crimson aura wrapped around the Rune Hound as it wasted no time in activating its runes, the strength of the Monster increased several fold and Rem was forced skidding backward, his feet moving against the rocky cave ground before finally pulling to a stop – The Rune Hound landed on the ground, baring its jagged fangs at Rem.
The crimson aura wrapped around the Rune Hound, surging around the figure of the Monster... Rem didn’t hesitate, he activated the Body Strengthening skill, boosting his physical stats by a large margin. The Rune Hound had begun charging at him again, portraying it’s extreme speed but the Apprentice exhibited a speed far much faster than the Monster, moving forward with Flash movement and throwing caution to the wind.
Rem appeared in front of the Rune Hound, his sword moving swiftly in an attempt to impale the monster on the forehead where the crimson rune was manifested – he wanted to destroy the rune as quickly as possible.
The Rune Hound moved it’s head to the side at blinding speed, evading the strike that Rem had planned to hit it with before countering with a slash – Rem dodged it by activating Flash movement, appearing behind the Monster with his blade engulfed in soul energy.
With each use of Flash movement, he consumed stamina as tensing the muscles for such movement was a feat possible for a short amount of time – the stamina consumed only increased since he had strengthened his body.
Rem stabbed his blade forward, only for the tail of the Monster to block his attack, giving the Rune Hound enough time to spin around and counter. Rem raised his sword and blocked the strike, wincing a bit at the amount of force packed within the strike.
The Rune Hound brought another claw forward, sending a slash right for his face but Rem was quick to duck, evading the slash with his quick reflexes... his sword was soon poised for an attack, his soul energy surging around it as he stabbed it forward right for the Rune Hound.
The Monster leaped backward, not only evading the strike but making some space between itself and Rem, unwilling to take the chances of being within the Apprentice’s striking range again.
The crimson aura wrapping around it vanished as the rune on its forehead deactivated, only for another one to take its place... a blue rune formed on the Monster’s forehead and Rem immediately knew what it meant. A blue aura trailed up the Monster’s feet as it exploded into action, rushing forward with a burst of speed that Rem could barely keep up with.
*Slash*
*Clang*
The sounds of steel meeting bone filled the air as Rem despite being disadvantaged in terms of speed held him own against the Monster, he spared a glance at Tero and his eyes widened – the boy was doing terribly against the Rune Hound, several wounds adorning his body and even ripping some parts of his clothes.
’I need to hurry,’ Rem thought as crimson flames crept up his blade, bathing the blade entirely within crimson flames. Flames shot out of the sword, turning into orbs that materialized behind Rem. The fireballs were packed with intense firepower, echoing a heat that made the room even hotter.
All of the fireballs shot forward, rippling through the air as they moved toward their target – the Rune Hound in front of him, if he had been alone, he would have been able to use more of his skills to put an end to both Monster quickly but since he was with Tero, to keep his cards close to his chest... he had to stick with one and fire was what he was comfortable with.
The Rune Hound blurred across the battlefield, dodging fireballs left and right. Despite the Monster’s amazing speed, it still got grazed by a few fireballs, burning it’s silver fur. The blue aura engulfed the Rune Hound as it’s speed increased once again but Rem’s eyes followed it, he could barely keep up with it even after enhancing his sight with soul energy.
’I could use the runes as well,’ Rem thought, if he activated a rune... he would be able to keep up with the Monster effortlessly but it meant revealing another one of his skills to Tero – something he was unwilling to do. Rem pushed off the ground, moving toward the Rune Hound as the onslaught of fireballs had stopped.
The Rune Hound regained its bearings, it’s crimson eyes focusing on Rem as it pulled to a stop. Rem was moving toward it, closing the distance between them while exhibiting a speed faster than anything he had brought out before.
Flames raged around the Magic steel sword as the sword came down, aiming to decapitate the monster in one go. The Rune shone brightly as the monster evaded the attack but Rem maintained his posture, taking a step forward and changing the trajectory of the blade – slashing the forehead of the monster that hadn’t thought to move far away.
The rune shattered and the speed buff vanished, leaving the Monster defenseless and open to attacks and Rem didn’t disappoint, he moved fluently with his sword still coated in flames – he slashed at the Monster, inflicting several deep injuries on it.
After the rune was forcefully shattered, the Rune Hound entered a state where it was vulnerable... it’s body would be unable to move, and this was the perfect time to strike.
The Rune Hound gained feeling shortly after and moved away, despite losing it’s speed boost – it’s base speed was still a force to be reckoned with, Rem stared at the fleeing monster before targeting the tendons of the hind feet, slashing at them with his blade engulfed in flames.
The Rune Hound fell snout-first to the ground, unable to move it’s hind legs.
