The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 152: The Glacian’s Territory (Part 3)
Right after Rem had bounced off from the second goblin’s baton, he engaged in a confrontation with the first Hobo goblin, Human and Monster clashed on several fronts- their respective weapons generating sparks.
The Hobo goblin, with its body strengthened to the maximum proved to be a powerful foe but it still couldn’t keep up with the force Rem put in his blows – a testament of the gap in strength between them.
*Bang*
The sounds of weapons clashing filled the air, the Hobo goblin was determined to end Rem – pouring every bit of its power into it’s strikes in an attempt to overwhelm the Apprentice but Rem kept up with each and every attack, blocking them effortlessly.
The Baton came down and Rem leaped out of the way, the baton smashed against the ground kicking up a little bit of dust... The monster opted to use the dust in it’s advantage as it made another swing, the baton seamlessly struck where Rem had been standing but it hit the ground once again – Rem was not there.
A brilliant flash of green appeared within the dust, Rem moved through the dust and aimed his Shortsword at the heart of the Hobo goblin – soul energy wrapping around the blade... the blade made contact with the chest of the Hobo goblin and Rem was met by the increased durability of the Monster’s thick skin, he poured more soul energy into the blade in an attempt to power through and kill the Hobo goblin as soon as possible, he had to assist Tero after all,
With the increased surge of soul energy within the blade, the skin of the Hobo goblin had begun to tear but it would still take some time for the Shortsword to penetrate it, courtesy of the Body Strengthening skill.
The Hobo goblin seeing this as a suitable opportunity raised it’s arms into the air, aiming to bring them down and attack Rem simultaneously but fate had other plans... black sparks formed around the Shortsword, the swirling energy in Rem’s eyes only seemed to intensify, surging like flames that engulfed his eyes whole.
’Convergence!’
The hinges of reality around Rem shattered as several black bolts of lightning razed the Hobo goblin, the blade pierced through and Rem pushed it all the way – stabbing the Monster’s heart in an instant,
As the surroundings around Rem restored, he pulled his blade out watching the Hobo goblin fall onto it’s back – it’s body was not only riddled with small wounds but burn marks, courtesy of the Convergence that Rem had landed... The Apprentice turned to face Tero and his eyebrows immediately rose.
’Interesting,’ Rem thought.
Tero and the Hobo goblin were still locked in a fierce battle, if that was what it could be called – Tero’s movements far exceeded anything that the Hobo goblin managed to pull out during the battle. Every attack thrown by the goblin would be dodged by Tero who seemed to move as if he predicted the attack, he would then counterattack with a powerful attack.
Soul energy blazed around both of their weapons as they went at each other, the baton and sword clashing mid-air creating a kaleidoscope of green and blue which engulfed both fighters within their mesmerizing figures.
The Hobo goblin was pushed back shortly after, it’s figure skidding backward before coming to a halt... Tero emerged from the lights, his palms clutching the blade tightly as he vanished from the goblin’s sight, appearing above it.
Rem noticed it immediately – even though it was for such a short time, Tero had been using Olivia’s sword technique. Soul energy surged around the sword as the Silver haired Apprentice brought it down, slashing the Hobo goblin in half.
Tero landed on the ground, blood staining his face but nevertheless a grin formed at his lips – the feeling of exhilaration within him hadn’t been quenched yet, the soul energy around the blade gradually receded and his eyes had returned back to their usual hue.
"You need to clean the blood from your face," Rem advised, "So it won’t cause something else like a skin infection later,"
Tero’s storage ring glowed as he brought out a can of water, a spare that he had kept with himself just in case – he poured it over his face and washed off the blood. It took the entire can to wash his face thoroughly, after he did so, he placed the can back into his Storage ring.
The channel of caverns hadn’t ended yet, they still had a long way to go before reaching the Monster – with each cave opening they advanced through, Rem could sense that they were getting closer and closer to the Monster. The souls of the Hobo goblins hadn’t been too useful as they barely increased his strength.
"You want to take a break?" Rem asked, the surge of temporary energy still flooded his veins – the effects from landing a Convergence were active.
"Hell no," Tero replied while pumping his fist, "We need to keep going!"
#####
Rem and Tero ran as fast as their legs could take them, the Monster chasing them was keeping up despite the boosts they had received upon landing a Convergence – Rem’s brows furrowed as he realized their new opponent wouldn’t be as easy as the others, it was a Rune Hound, the monster in silvery skin chased them down, baring it’s fangs at them.
"Split!" Rem exclaimed and bent his feet, moving away from Tero – Tero did the same and the Rune Hound pulled to a stop... the separation would ensure that the Rune Hound had to pick a single target, another growl drew Rem’s attention as he stared at one of the plentiful stone pillars in the cavern.
Another Rune Hound stared at him dead in the eyes, both of them remained unmoving but Rem knew that the situation wasn’t tipped in their favor – they were facing against two Monsters that could increase their power with the help of runes, truly overpowered existences.
The other Rune Hound dashed in Tero’s direction and the one atop the Stone pillar jumped down, heading straight for Rem with the intent to kill.
