The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 151: The Glacian’s Territory (Part 2)
Rem immediately noticed the irregular changes in Tero’s soul energy, with goblins – the output of his soul energy would be low and enough to impale the goblins with relative ease but with the Blood scorpions, the output of his soul energy would increase to a point where he could impale and damage the Blood scorpions with ease.
That was a massive feat because he was easily able to counter the Thick skin of the Blood scorpions... so Rem arrived at a conclusion.
’His soul energy varies in intensity depending on the Opponent he’s faced with,’ Rem thought... in other words, Tero’s soul energy was adapting to the Monsters he faced, making it easier for him to bring them to their end.
Rem planted his feet into the ground, his eyes locked onto the last opponent – a Blood scorpion. Rem moved forward, pouring soul energy into the Shortsword as he aimed for the eye, stabbing his blade deep and drawing it back.
The Blood Scorpion jolted backward and fell over, it’s tail falling to the ground powerlessly. Rem gritted his teeth and stabbed the Blood Scorpion in the head, quickly ending it’s life... He too had found the perfect amount of soul energy to deal with the Blood scorpions.
Tero breathed a sigh of relief, the soul energy cladding his fists receding in a moment’s notice.
"That was a decent warm-up," Tero said, taking in a deep breath – his heart pounded loudly in his chest, it had been a long time since he had to exert this much effort into defeating Monsters... it was far more easier defeating them with explosions.
"Yeah," Rem replied blankly, his Shortsword glistened in soul energy as he stabbed it into the Blood Scorpion below him, after making some quick movements – he brought out the crimson magic stone... the core of the Monster.
Tero retrieved a dagger from his Storage ring, coating it with soul energy and getting to work as well. After they had gotten the various magic stones, Tero stored them in his storage ring.
"After we leave, I’ll distribute them equally amongst us," Tero promised and Rem nodded, turning to another cave opening– one that led further into the interior of the small mountain, "Let’s go,"
Tero nodded and slowly but surely, both of them advanced further into the dungeon, steeling themselves for the dangers that lay ahead.
#####
"Rem!" Tero cried out as he raced forward, his fists burning within azure soul energy. They were within yet another part of the dungeon although this specific part hosted much more trouble for both Apprentices.
They faced against two Hobo goblins, although they weren’t as strong as the boss Rem had fought against before – they were both boosting their power with the Body Strengthening skill.
Tero suppressed the tingle at his fingers, the tingle that prompted him to use an explosion to settle it all. Both of them had gone deeper into the small mountain and an explosion, no matter how contained it was, would be bound to shake the cave’s interior and endanger them.
The two monsters closed the distance on Rem, who still held his Shortsword up. Despite being outnumbered, Rem didn’t show any signs of fear, instead excitement bubbled up within his veins.
The first Hobo goblin arrived before him, swinging it’s signature weapon - a baton at Rem who moved his head back, dodging the strike narrowly. Rem immediately leaped backward, creating distance between himself and the first goblin but the second wouldn’t let him off the hook so easily, it appeared behind Rem with it’s own baton poised for attack.
Rem flipped mid-air, just as the baton was swung – his feet landed atop the baton and he propelled himself back at the first Hobo goblin, soul energy shooting out of his eyes like flames.
The second Hobo goblin moved forward, the baton on it’s arm glowing as it prepared to strike Rem but Tero appeared beside the monster, punching it squarely on it’s waist. His soul energy had long since increased in intensity, the force behind his punch sent the Monster skidding to the side.
’When I punched, I felt like my body had hit a sturdy wall,’ Tero thought while clenching his fist, despite being clad by soul energy, it was still throbbing a bit after he landed that punch.
The Second Hobo goblin’s attention was fully diverted to Tero, it’s solemn crimson eyes locked onto the Apprentice and the veins adorning it’s body became more defined – the goblin took a step back, disappearing into thin air shortly after much to Tero’s surprise.
He was barely able to react as the goblin appeared in front of him, bringing it’s baton down – the baton let off a green glow as it descended rapidly, threatening to clobber Tero beneath it but the Apprentice leaped to the side, dodging the weapon.
Soul energy rotated around his azure eyes, the goblin stretched out a fist to punch Tero but the Apprentice dodged the fast strike once again, showing a burst of speed that far exceeded what the Monster could muster even with its body strengthened.
The goblin let out a menacing growl, swinging the baton right at Tero’s head with both hands but like the earlier attacks, it didn’t connect. Tero dodged this one as well, his eyes glowing even more than usual – he could see every miniscule movement made by the Hobo goblin.
Tero clenched his fists, soul energy rotated around them... the Hobo goblin attacked once again but like before, he dodged it effortlessly and punched the monster in it’s stomach – soul energy swirled around his fist, several sparks of black lightning burst to life as he forced more power into the punch, reality distorted around Tero as the Hobo goblin was soon engulfed by a Convergence.
The monster was sent flying, slamming into the cave wall with a heavy thud as reality restored. Tero felt his soul energy reserves rapidly expand, surging within his very being as he locked eyes with the Hobo goblin which had already begun emerging from the crater it had left behind – it’s eyes red with rage.
It gripped it’s baton tightly, a green aura wrapping around the weapon... Tero brought out a sword from his Storage ring, assuming a combat stance similar to Olivia’s – soul energy bursting to life around his weapon.
