The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 149: Apprentices United (Part 2)
Several growls echoed in the dungeon as two Apprentices found themselves on the run, their eyes bloodshot and their bodies looking a bit malnourished – Not everyone had been lucky enough to be able to find easy prey within the dungeon... Some stray survivors hadn’t eaten for weeks on end.
Both Apprentices, a boy and a girl kept scurrying in an attempt to escape from the Monsters that were hot on their trail but such simple tactics wouldn’t be enough to shake off Sandwolves, holding a numerical advantage against the Apprentices.
"Fuck!" The boy screamed out, his brown hair flailing wildly in the air – he took in deep breaths, attempting to circulate enough air through his body to continue running but a Sandwolf materialized in front of them, forcing both Apprentices to a stop.
"We were so close..." The girl said, her legs giving out beneath her – The boy glanced in her direction and knew that she would be of no help.
He gritted his teeth as Sandwolves came at them from both sides, there was nothing he could do about it – as much as he wanted to fight... his weapon had long since broken and even if he did have a weapon, he didn’t have enough strength in his body to fight off such a staggering number of monsters.
’Maybe it’s good that I’m about to die,’ He couldn’t help but think as he took a step back, squeezing his eyes shut, ’The whole fucking expedition – I’m tired of it... just end it already!’
Several explosions burst to life around the boy, their rapid ringing echoed in his ears as he instinctively raised his hands to his ears, covering them. His eyes widened as his heart beat rapidly... What was happening?
A Sandwolf emerged from the smoke, leaping into the air and closing the distance between itself and the male Apprentice only for it’s head to shoot off it’s body, the air rippling shortly after.
Olivia’s eyes flashed, engulfed in pink soul energy. Her hands clasped around her sword tightly and her breathing hastened, she vanished into thin air – rippling and rushing through the battlefield with immense speed and accuracy, the Sandwolves that hadn’t lost their lives in the explosion were instantly decapitated by Olivia, her movements with the sword unmatched.
She appeared once again, falling to her knees - Her soul energy was totally spent... She hadn’t managed to kill all the Sandwolves but she had managed to diminish their staggering numbers.
Matthew stabbed his spear forward, lodging it in the head of a Sandwolf and watching it crumble into sand – leaving it’s essence, the Magical stone behind. His eyes glinted as he looked at the Magic stone before turning his gaze away, the smoke from the explosions had already cleared and revealed the numbers of Sandwolves remaining... A mere six monsters.
A blur moved past Matthew, his speed was incomparable to the speeds Olivia had been moving at before but it was equally fast. Tero closed in on the remaining monsters, his fists clad in ethereal blue soul energy.
They noticed him and charged in his direction, a small smirk tugged at his lips as he continued running in their direction. Just as he met the first one, Tero immediately thrust his fist forward – caving the head of the Sandwolf in with a single blow.
Tero drew his fist back and kicked the second Sandwolf in the face, sending the Monster shooting backward and slamming into the wall, turning to a mound of sand moments later.
The other Monsters pulled back, realizing the situation but it was already too late... Tero’s eyes gave off a dangerous gleam as he condensed an explosion right in the center of the cluster of Monsters. The crimson explosion made an appearance shortly after, sending tremors around the rocky area... Tero emerged from the explosion, seemingly unharmed.
He turned in the direction of both Apprentices that they had saved, and a kind smile played at his lips. He slowly walked in their direction, his gaze fixated on the female Apprentice that gave him a hopeful gaze.
"They won’t attack you anymore," Tero assured with his kind smile, bringing a sense of warmth into the hearts of the terrified duo, "We’ve dealt with them all,"
Rem observed them from the distance, his gaze on Tero’s back.
’He knows how to act pretty well,’ Rem thought as he watched Tero openly converse with the shaken Apprentices about joining his little party – the promises of food and a place to rest, away from the claws of the monsters in the area had both of them were instantly hooked to the offer.
Rem couldn’t blame them, if he were in such a situation; he might even be tempted to accept the offer. He kept leaning against the wall, his boredom reaching new heights.
Megan and Mika were both at the camp, assigned by Tero to keep guard of their resources.
"Mind helping out with packing up the Magical stones we procured from the Sandwolves?" Tero asked the Apprentices, and eager to get on his good side – they immediately began packing the stray magical stones with renewed vigor.
Tero looked over to Rem before heading back to packing up Magical stones within his line of sight – he knew from first-hand experience that it would be a foolish idea to ask Rem to help out, he couldn’t afford to lose face in front of people that he had newly recruited.
Matthew also joined in, making the process more efficient and smoother. They combed the area and secured a lot of magical stones although Tero bit his lips, he had promised every single person in his party a share of magical stones for their efforts.
"We’re done," Tero said while sucking the last magical stones into his storage ring, "Now let’s head back to Camp,"
Olivia had recovered from the earlier attack she had performed and was now following them back to Camp, Rem joined them as well. He was a part of Tero’s party after all.
