The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 148: Apprentices United (Part 1)
Megan didn’t get her chance... As soon as Rem woke up, they were on the move.
This wasn’t like the prior times where Rem carried her and began jumping, no they cleared the distance on foot. Megan witnessed the true interior of the dungeon, the area was riddled with rocky pillars – caverns – and even groups of Monsters.
She had missed all of this while in Rem’s arms as they jumped through the dungeon, seeking warmth in caves.
"Rem, mind if I ask why we’re traveling like this?" Megan asked, Rem had been silent throughout the start of the travel and they had cleared a considerable distance.
"Well, we are currently being watched," Rem replied and continued walking, Megan’s eyes shrunk as she heard his words.
"Watched?" Megan asked.
"Yeah," Rem said, "Yesterday’s battle drew some people to our location, they seem to have a capable sensor with them as well – so they’ve been following us ever since we left,"
Megan shivered as she heard his words, her heart beat in trepidation as each passing second only increased her fear but Rem assured her.
"Don’t worry, they won’t try anything stupid," Rem said, "Even if they did, I can still beat them,"
Upon hearing his words, the fear in her heart vanished a bit... she felt assured by his presence, protected in a way and her palm soon found his, holding it delicately as they continued their walk.
Mika stood on a tall rock pillar watching all of this with narrowed emotionless eyes, Tero sighed in desperation – He of course knew of the affection that Mika bore for Rem.
"Why are we following them anyway?" Mika suddenly asked, her gaze turning to Tero.
Olivia and Matthew were back at the camp they had set nearby and they were placed there to protect the meat that the group had managed to procure.
"We’re looking for a chance to assist them like we did with Olivia," Tero replied with a straight face – he was also feeling an itch, an itch to fight with Rem... it had been bothering him ever since he first met the Apprentice.
Mika rolled her eyes.
"If it’s like that, then I doubt we’ll find such an opportunity," Mika said, her voice oozing with confidence, "Because Rem is much more powerful than he looks,"
As she finished talking, A pack of Hellhounds charged at the two of them that were walking on the ground – they were obviously being seen as easy prey. Megan trembled after seeing their towering figures, she took several steps backward and fell over, her legs trembling.
Rem moved into the air, brandishing his Shortsword as his eyes glowed in green soul energy. In three precise slashes, he managed to bring down the three Hellhounds leading the pack – their bodies falling on the ground lifelessly kicking dust up.
Rem didn’t exclude the other Hellhounds like last time, he immediately landed on the ground and used his soul energy to boost his movements – slashing through the pack and killing the rest of the Hellhounds with relative ease.
Rem landed on the ground, the bodies of the Hellhounds fell shortly after, each one filling the air with even more dust. He hadn’t used the full extent of his abilities, just enough to kill these Hellhounds easily.
He looked directly over his shoulder and at the pillar where Mika stood, her blue eyes meeting his gray ones and a silent understanding being formed.
"Come, let’s go," Mika said to Tero and immediately jumped down from the pillar, Tero sighed and did the same.
Megan was glad to see that the Apprentices were alive, although something bugged her – she moved over to Rem’s side and took his hand once again, her face turning pale.
She had been a part of the defensive force before, providing healing to members of the party and she had been around the Apprentices before... the Apprentices she were seeing now, Mika and Tero had a certain kind of dangerous aura around them. Their power soaring past anything Megan had expected from them, the potentials that had once lay dormant within them unleashed in unbridled fury.
"You unlocked a Sensory skill, huh? That’s nice," Rem said while looking at Mika.
’How can he be so casual around them? They’re the people that have been stalking us,’ Megan thought.
Rem then turned to Tero, gazing into the boy’s deep blue endowed eyes that shimmered like crystals.
"We’re going to be joining you," Rem said, "And as payment for letting us join you, you can have eight of the Hellhounds behind me,"
The pack had ten Hellhounds and Rem had offered to give eight of them to Tero and his group... leaving two for himself and Megan.
Megan and Mika were equally surprised at Rem’s proposition. Tero’s eyes glimmered for a bit before he shrugged.
"Alright," He said and raised his left hand into the air lazily, the sky lit up in a beautiful crimson explosion and Rem immediately recognized what it was.
"A signal," Rem muttered under his breath, he suddenly felt his arm being pinched and he turned to Megan who gave him a confused look.
"There is power in numbers," Rem said, "It’s better if we join along with the willing people, it’ll make it easier to battle Monsters,"
’And it will also give me a bit of leverage if Zarchary decides to come for me,’ Rem thought, he had no hope in defeating the Demon in a battle but with the others – he wouldn’t be the only one taking blows.
Megan nodded, trusting in Rem’s decision while Mika gritted her teeth.
"Are you guys going to keep on holding hands?" Mika asked, barely able to contain her disdain for Megan.
"Yes," Megan shot back, looking at Mika with fierce eyes – unwilling to let her intrude.
But their confrontation was cut short as a blur appeared amidst them, Olivia as well as Matthew who looked a little spent – he had been carried all the way here.
"We need to cut out the meat," Tero said and the storage ring on his fingers let out a glow as several weapons emerged from a blue projection of light, Tero turned to Rem and Megan as the weapons fell to the ground, "Mind helping?"
