The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 145: An Illusion

Rem looked up, seeing the demon hover in the air in front of him with the ethereal blue energy forming an aura around the demon... Rem felt the pressure behind the demon and stomped his feet on the ground, urgently trying to regain his bearing.

The blue energy came crashing upon him once again, sending the Apprentice shooting backward through several rock pillars before slamming into the walls of the dungeon – blood trailing down his lips.

"My comrades... All of them died by your hands," The demon spoke, his voice filled with immeasurable spite, "So I’ll toy with you, breaking you limb from limb till you eventually beg for mercy,"

Rem had stood up by now, staring at the demon with defiant eyes while wiping the blood that trailed down his lips.

"You can try, but like others, you will fail," Rem spoke with confidence backing his words, he immediately entered a combat stance and the demon grinned underneath his white cloak before unleashing another burst of blue energy at the Apprentice.

Rem’s eyes followed the blue energy and he took a step forward, leaping into the attack. The Demon’s grin only widened upon seeing this but soon Rem vanished into thin air, leaving him shocked and speechless.

"Don’t let your guard down," Rem said while impaling the demon in the chest with his Shortsword from behind, the blade tore through the cloak and pierced the Demon’s flesh... emerging on the front side of the demon, crimson blood coating the tip of the blade.

The Demon’s grin only widened as a powerful burst of energy washed over Rem, sending him flying and slamming into a rock pillar. He looked at the hole in his chest which was soon wrapped in billowing steam, healing by the second.

"Resistance is futile!"

Rem flipped in the air, planting his feet into the ground and tucking his Shortsword into it’s sheath... he didn’t waste any more time, he immediately began firing off shadow tendrils at the Demon who twirled expertly in the air, dodging each and every one of the shadow tendrils before locking eyes with Rem.

"Do you have no shame?! Using Aegi’s power against me?!" The demon cried out crazily, blue energy wrapping around him and forming tendrils which shot in Rem’s direction – they overwhelmed the Shadow tendrils with relative ease and Rem bit his lips, focusing wind into his feet and shooting into the air just as the blue tendrils slammed into where he had stood, web-like cracks protruding from the ground.

Rem spun in the air and the demon cackled once again, his loud voice booming.

"Where did all that confidence go?!" The Demon asked, blasting Rem through yet another pillar with his blue energy.

’Something is strange,’ Rem thought while crashing into the wall of the dungeon, he coughed up a bit of blood but he managed to get up on his feet again, ’Is it just me or I can’t sense Megan’s soul energy?’

Even though he had gone a bit far from the tent, it was still within his sensing range... in fact, he couldn’t sense the energy of any Monster nearby. His gray eyes glowed a bit as he stared confidently at the Demon, dropping his Combat stance.

"This is an illusion," Rem stated matter-of-factly making the Demon shudder. Several tendrils made of blue energy shot through the air at him but each and every one of them passed through Rem who didn’t bother moving, "See what I mean?"

The world around him distorted and Rem found himself in the cave entrance, staring at the Demon who looked visibly shaken... he had taken several steps away from Rem, his back up against the wall and a palm extended at him.

"How did you... break free from my illusion?" The Demon asked and Rem merely took a step closer to the demon, his Shortsword in hand and radiating soul energy.

"You can’t fool my eyes," was Rem’s reply as he immediately used Flash movement to close the distance between himself and the Demon, several cracks filled the cavern before a powerful explosion of blue energy engulfed both Rem and the demon, destroying the cave entirely.

Rem leaped out of the explosion, his eyes on the Demon that floated in the air clapping his palms together as several blue tendrils shot at Rem – Rem didn’t waste any time, he raised a palm up and summoned several tendrils of shadow, each of them rippling through the air and matching the blue tendrils.

The confrontation of both attacks generated an impressive shockwave, creating cracks on the rocky dungeon ground. Slowly but surely, Rem noticed that the shadows corrupted the blue energy, the Demon drew back his tendrils and the tendrils made of shadow returned to Rem’s palm.

Rem sprinted across the battlefield, the Demon abruptly released his blue energy at Rem with the intentions of making the Apprentice shoot across the battlefield but Rem had learned his lesson from the illusions, he prepared himself and jumped into the shadow of the Demon, leaping into the air shortly after and cocking his arms back.

Several orbs made of holy flames surrounded Rem, each of them letting off an ethereal white glow before propelling forward – colliding with another wave of blue energy the Demon had released defensively.

Both fighters concentrated on their respective attacks, their eyes portraying their unyielding power... The blue wave of energy that the Demon had released was abruptly pushed back by the power unleashed by the balls of Holy flame, The Demon didn’t relent even after being pushed back and instead focused all of his energy into escaping.

Rem let out a cry as the orbs of flame broke through the last wall of defense between themselves and the Demon, the blue energy abruptly dispersing and leaving the Demon open to attacks.

’Fuck... Come on,’ The Demon thought as the orbs closed the distance, they were already in front of his face and he felt the radiating heat that was capable of burning his kind to death push against his face – his hair burned a bit as they came even closer and then the blue energy burst into existence once again, at his right leg, pulling him down toward an intact stone pillar.

The Demon dodged the orbs of holy flame and they crashed into the dungeon wall, creating several explosions as a result.
