The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 143: Combat Tips (Part 1)
Rem didn’t find anything else on his scouting, except for the Hellhounds he wanted to hunt – he couldn’t eat Nightroaches after all, not only were they bugs but he doubted that they were edible monsters.
As he made his way back to the cave, Rem prepared to roast the meat that they had saved up and eat it for today. The Dungeon’s conditions didn’t encourage it’s new inhabitants to be wasteful, not everyone had overpowered healing like Rem or even a healer on standby – the Monsters within this dungeon were capable of poisoning, paralyzing and even burning their opponents so being inflicted with any one of those conditions was similar to death.
Rem arrived at the cavern and immediately made his way inside the cave formation, finding himself in front of the tent shortly after. Rem pushed aside the tent’s opening and looked at Megan, sitting and staring at the ceiling with a bored expression.
As soon as the Healer saw his face, her boredom immediately vanished and was replaced with concern for his wellbeing – this certainly wasn’t the first time he went scouting for hours on end, and it wouldn’t be the last... they were always on the move, it was only a matter of time before Rem pulled them out of this place and into another one. Yet after witnessing Rem scout monster territories all the time, she couldn’t bring herself to stop worrying about him.
"You seem bored," Rem said, "Since you don’t have anything to do, bring up the Hellhound meat that I packed up before we moved here yesterday, we’re going to roast them again,"
And with that, his head popped out of the tent. Megan scurried quickly, pulling out a bowl of roasted meat that had been leftover from yesterday’s meal and went ahead to meet Rem outside only to witness that he had already started a fire and placed a rack of sticks above them, enough to steam the meat up.
"Place them on it," Rem said, his voice sounding a bit impatient. He had finished scouting and he was hungry, what other way to sate his hunger than eating roasted meat?
Megan bent over, gracefully placing each piece of meat on the rack and watching them heat up... she sat beside Rem and rested her head on his shoulder, taking in his warmth.
"Sometimes I wish I could help out in fighting," Megan told Rem, "It doesn’t feel right when I’m sitting in the tent doing nothing while you’re going ahead and risking your life for the both of us..."
Her arms trailed down to his chest and she held Rem tighter.
"I’m glad I have you with me in this dungeon, a lot of others would have abandoned me long ago," Megan said, "But you didn’t – you kept me along and you’re feeding me, giving me water to drink but... I’m not giving you anything in return,"
Rem barely felt moved by her words, his eyes were focused on the steaming meat below him as he began flipping them, deeming that the under had gotten enough heat in.
"You don’t have to give me anything in return," Rem said, "I took you with me because I’m not the kind of person that’d leave a helpless person to fend for themselves in the face of deah,"
His words... they terrified Megan and she hugged him tighter. The situation leading up to how she was discovered by Rem in the first place – she had nearly been killed by Blood scorpions and happened to be lucky that he was in the area.
They had gone through so much together after that and Megan grew to love the younger boy, her heart throbbed in excitement with each passing moment they spent together and a part of her wished that this would go on forever...
"You won’t leave me, will you?" Megan asked, her eyes growing teary.
"No," Rem replied, "You know I wouldn’t leave you,"
Rem immediately handed her a can of water he had pulled out from his Inventory while she was being emotional – the water was from Orion, he had managed to store a great deal of cans in his Inventory before he left but his supply of it would soon run out and then he would have to locate water in the dungeon by himself... a truly taxing endeavor.
Megan took the can of water and noticed Rem beginning to put some meat in a plate before handing it to her, Megan nodded and thanked him gratefully but he had more important things in mind.
"I wonder... if I dug in deep enough, would I be able to find water?" Rem wondered while staring at the ceiling of the dungeon, he was yet to have his own food yet – he was submerged within thoughts and ideas.
"You should," Megan replied while I turned to her.
"How are you so sure?" Rem asked.
"Because the ground is rocky," Megan gave a short, witty reply and it annoyed Rem a bit but he shrugged it off and soon began eating, eager to test out the properties of the new armor he had gotten from the Nightroaches.
They ate their food in silence, Megan felt uncomfortable in the silence but there was little she could do about it – she didn’t try to make conversation with Rem while they were having their lunch.
"You said something about being weak and not knowing how to fight?" Rem asked, vividly remembering the words that she had spoken, "If you want, I can teach you how to fight,"
Megan’s eyes brightened up as she heard Rem’s words.
"Of course it’ll take a long time before I’ll let you scout with me," I finished but her determination didn’t die down, she wasn’t even able to finish her food yet she downed her entire can of water in one go and threw the can aside.
Rem had to admit, while she was a powerful Healer, Megan barely had skills she could rely on if she found herself in a pinch and Rem who was feeling bored felt like giving Megan tips for combat wouldn’t be a waste of time...
