The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 121: Dungeon’s Horror (Part 7)

After harvesting the Magic stones from the Hellhounds, the party had moved forward once again and this time they seemed to be in another Monster’s territory once again – there were no traps in this one, just webs being spun all across the walls and even on some rocks.

"Seems like we’re in another Monster’s territory," Captain Yokama said while observing the surroundings which were marked with webs – as if it was a warning to deter them from not going any further... But no monster would want to set warnings, there was something eerie about the air.

There was stillness as the Captain closed his eyes only to snap them open moments later, throwing an arc of soul energy in the air above the Apprentices only for the arc to slice through a tendril which had been making it’s way to the Apprentices. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Behold standing atop one of the towering stone pillars was a Spidergob which was obviously mutated, the same kind like the one Rem had faced before. Captain Yokama took a step forward before throwing multiple slashes made of soul energy at the Spider which managed to block them off with it’s metallic-like tendrils. Upon collision with each arc of soul energy, the tendril vibrated but it wasn’t ripped off like the first time.

Mutations were phenomenon that happened randomly at any given time for whatever reason in the dungeon, by being mutated, they didn’t increase the rank but increased the death rates instead just for a single raid – Mutations happened randomly and in the case of this Monster, it seemed to be able to harden it’s skin as well as tendrils but it didn’t matter, Yokama had dealt with several monsters like this one.

The Captain immediately took off into a sprint while the Other Mages from the attacking squad rained down their attacks on it, the Aqua mage in specific throwing orbs of black water that made the impact of fire and even lightning intensify. Yokama was running up the pillar now while the Defensive force had already moved the Apprentices away from the battle.

The Cavaliers on the Attacking force were the only ones not doing anything because they had been ordered to stand down by Captain Yokama. Yokama reached the top of the pillar and leapt into the air, clearing a lot of distance before throwing multiple arcs of soul energy at the Monster,

All of the slashes struck one place, it’s head which had been hardened to the brink by it’s radiation yet Yokama didn’t look worried, a tendril tore through the air and threatened to impale him – only for Yokama to use it as a stepping stone and spring into the air once again, clutching his palms around the Sword while making more arcs which rippled through the air, each of them hitting against the Spider’s head and a metallic sound to ring through the head. The Spidergob threw a tendril toward Yokama who used it to leap into the air once again, sending even more slashes downward and converging on the Spider’s head, breaking past its defenses and destroying it’s head at once.

Rem sighted the Captain’s hair flowing in the wind as he stood atop the Mutation’s corpse, looking down on the Apprentices with a friendly smile on his face as if he hadn’t killed a Monster and the corpse was behind him right now.

’I know I’ve seen that face before,’ Rem thought, ’But I can’t picture it – I don’t remember where I saw his face,’

No matter all he did, he couldn’t remember where exactly he had seen the Captain’s face before but he knew that it had been quite a long while ago but there were more important matters at hand, Spider minions had begun crawling out of every damned hole in the surrounding area, they were not as large as the Spider that Yokama had killed but what they lacked in strength, they made up for it in numbers.

[Spider Beetle, D-grade]

Rem didn’t get his hopes up on getting an important, powerful skill from such a useless Monster – it was still D-grade after all and D-grades barely brought anything noteworthy. The crawling Spider Beetles continued advancing toward the Apprentices.

’They aren’t really worth the effort,’ Rem thought while taking the Combat stance, ’Might as well go on a Killing spree first,’

Tero seemed to have the same ideas as explosions began ringing around the Battlefield, destroying monsters each passing second with blue explosions triggered by his Magical energy. Rem eased a bit as the explosions continued.

’I’ll let him consume his magical energy reserves in an effort to look cool,’ Rem thought as he watched the explosions ensue until the entire battlefield was painted in blue explosions – of course none of the Attacking and Defensive team members were in the way of these explosions.

Rem absorbed the Spider beetles completely and added them to his army only to receive a notification which seemed a little bit interesting.

[Unique Skill: Poison Explusion (D-grade)]

[Description: This skill allows the user to expel poison from his mouth to attack the Opponent, Poison can also be expelled from skin pores]

Although the Skill was a mere D-grade, Rem was sure that it would come in handy although it wasn’t that suitable for combat.

Rem looked at the blue explosions which had died down and over to Tero, Tero took in a deep sigh as several beads of sweat dropped from his face to the ground – he was exhausted and Rem couldn’t blame him, controlling several explosions like that would have required him not to only consume a portion of magical energy to start the explosion but to keep it going, he would have to supply it with more magical energy.

As the beetles were completely dealt with, the Territory that had once housed a mutated monster and it’s hatchlings was completely empty and Captain Yakoma decided to take the group treasure-hunting. A territory ought to contain important or rare valuables that the Monster has gathered and that were what they were going to collect as a bonus reward for killing the Spider.
