The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 101: Mutated Dungeon Boss
After a little break, the party set out again toward the Boss room. Rem’s stamina was fully restored and he was ready for yet another slaughter. They had been moving for quite a long while now and not only had they not come close to the Boss room but also no monsters have been popping up.
’I guess that’s understandable since we faced so many monsters,’ Rem thought but as they continued, a thick dust surrounded the entire room.
Swirls formed in the thick dust and Sandwolves formed, their howls echoing around the room.
"Get ready," The captain said while pulling out his sword and letting it glisten with soul energy.
Rem entered a combat stance, his muscles bulging as he clenched his fists tightly, the mist was making it hard for them to breathe... He stomped on the ground and rushed into the dust, much to the party’s surprise.
"Rem!" Ruby’s cry was clear, filled with worry but he disappeared into the dust and something crashed into the wall shortly after. Sandwolves emerged from the dust, surrounding the party with howls.
The captain leapt forward, slashing his Magic iron sword at the first Sandwolf, slicing it in half. He steadied his feet on the ground as another Sandwolf tore through the air, baring it’s teeth. The captain’s eyes glowed as he swung the sword again, slashing through the Sandwolf with relative ease.
After a little while, Sandwolves could no longer be seen – their cries echoing into a distance as the dust cleared, revealing Rem having slaughtered the rest, standing over the corpse of a Sandwolf with his foot buried within it’s head.
"That was easy," Rem muttered under his breath and looked back at the party, the Captain let out a small chuckle and gave Rem a nod of appreciation.
It didn’t take long for them to find the entrance to the Boss room, and the strategy was set... the doors for the Boss room swung open and the boss was revealed to them, a gigantic spider-like monster which resembled the Spidergob that Rem had fought in the forest of death.
The Spider monster stood around three meters tall, its massive frame covered in tough, black skin that seemed almost like armor. It had four eyes, each one glowing a menacing crimson, giving it an unnerving and all-seeing appearance. Its feet were broad and metallic, driving into the ground with a forceful, almost predatory grip. Each step it took reverberated with a chilling, metallic clank, as if the ground itself was recoiling from its presence.
Rem took a deep breath, he could feel the murderous intent in the air and he subconsciously clenched his fist... with each step the Boss took toward them, the murderous intent intensified.
Rem heard the sound of doors slamming behind him and he turned around, barely catching a glimpse of the Captain and his party members retreating. It was already clear that this boss was not like a regular C-grade boss, it was something more.
It took Rem more seconds to realize that he was the only person in this boss room, which meant that Ruby had abandoned him as well. A small explosion echoed across the other side of the door, it seemed like there was a scuffle.
Rem focused on the boss and a small smile spread across his lips as he released his own murderous intent, clashing with that of the boss... the air became heavy as both powerful entities prepared to clash against each other.
The aura around Rem changed as he activated his body strengthening skill, his eyes growing bloodshot as a mix of blood and adrenaline pumped through his body.
’Spidergob Mutation, B-grade’
The name was in blue color, it was possible for a Monster to mutate due to the energy existing within a dungeon. Humans mutated due to the energy expelled from the dungeons and the same thing happened to the monsters that existed within the forest of death.
Rem shuddered, thinking about the Monkey mutation that nearly killed him – he wasn’t even able to absorb it’s soul since it was too complex for the Monster monarch system... but this was the boss of the dungeon, it was bound to give him good rewards.
The first spiky metallic tendril descended and Rem moved out the way, despite being big, it was hardly slow. The tendril came down just as Rem leapt away, smashing against the ground and a shockwave sending Rem tumbling away, his back slammed on the dungeon wall and he grunted a bit.
’Even with the body strengthening skill,’ Rem thought, ’It still managed to deal damage,’
He was slowly getting to realize the power that a Mutated monster had – Rem stood up and several needles coated with poison shot through the air, all of them converging upon him.
’If I don’t take this seriously... there’s a chance I might die,’ Rem thought as his eyes flashed, his arm turning into a barrier of slime and preventing the needles from coming in contact with him.
The slime hardened and the needles fell out, each of them clanking against the stone ground... Rem retracted the slime and his emotionless eyes pulsated with green soul energy, The Boss made a more terrifying cry as more and more needles gleaming with poison shot toward Rem.
Rem kicked off the ground making a straight charge toward the Boss, his fists were clenched and tentacles of slime raged through the air, deflecting every needle aimed at him. Rem extended an appendage at the Spidergob, wrapping the slimy liquid around one of the Boss’s feet before hardening it and dragging the boss down to the ground.
A resounding slam echoed around the Boss room; stones, pebbles and even pieces of the ground being kicked up into the air as the heavy Spidergob came crashing down. Rem didn’t waste any time and closed the distance, he was moving so fast that one could see the residuals of soul energy left behind from his eyes.
Rem leapt into the air and closed in on the Boss, his fist reared back as soul energy pulsated around it like a flame – ready to consume anything in it’s path.
The Spidergob’s four eyes landed on Rem and the murderous intent in the air thickened, making Rem falter for a moment. The moment was enough as a tendril shot through the air... Rem’s eyes regained focus just as the tendril pierced his stomach, shooting out his back and causing the Apprentice to cough out blood.
The Boss let out a victorious cry as it staggered upward. Rem gritted his teeth, the wound wouldn’t be able to heal if the Boss’s tendril was still in his stomach, he looked at the blood trickling down the tendril... Rem turned into a slime, bouncing atop the tendril and turning back into human.
’Even with my body strengthened, it’s still able to match me,’ Rem thought, his heart pumping within it’s cage as he felt the flames within his body being turned up, ’It might as well be stronger than the Cavalier Captain I faced,’
Rem stepped on the tendril and charged his fists up with magical energy, he brought them forward with a single motion and created powerful bullets of wind magic, each of them piercing through the air and striking the head of the Boss – they seemed to barely do any physical damage but Rem could feel the control over the tendrils loosening, the attacks were rattling the Boss’s brain.
The tendril that Rem was standing on moved upward, sending Rem shooting toward the ceiling of the Dungeon but Rem kept on putting the pressure, bullets of air kept tearing at the boss – screams of pain and despair echoing through the air.
’That demon boy had a good skill,’ Rem thought, he would have used the shockwave skill he gained from Tobi but this was an enclosed space.
Rem soon stopped using the wind bullets and instead howled outward, waves of sound traversing through the air and colliding with the Boss – it let out a pained cry and Rem spun around landing on the ceiling.
He ran on the ceiling, maintaining traction with the uneven rocky surface using soul energy and then he reared his arm back.
’The second Hellhound skill,’ Rem thought as he thrust his palms forward and three slash marks shot through the air. He released his Murderous intent, making sure it was just enough to cancel out the Spidergob’s murderous intent...
The Boss wasn’t taking chances with it’s murderous intent canceled, it raised two tendrils and prepared to block the slashes. Once the slashes hit, it let out a piercing screech which echoed past the doors.
