The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 100: Monster Breakthrough (I)

Rem sliced through a goblin with his shortsword, the monster’s head spun through the air and a fountain of blood shot out of it’s neck. Rem focused energy into his feet and took two steps backward, evading a slash attack from a Death wolf. They were being attacked on multiple fronts by the monsters.

Rem threw the shortsword forward, the blade tore through the air and pierced the Death wolf in the forehead, brain matter and blood spouting out as Rem appeared before it and withdrew the blade before bouncing off it’s back and slashing another goblin, ending the monster’s life instantly.

Rem spared a glance at Ruby, her arms surrounded with green magical energy as spiky roots shot out of the ground, impaling monsters all around her. She glanced back at him while a root wrapped around a monster that tried to jump at her, squeezing the Death wolf into oblivion.

Rem broke his gaze away from her and leapt to the right, multiple slash marks converging on where he stood before – he sighted a Hellhound, it was not as big as the Hellhound boss but just as dangerous, Hellhounds had their advanced healing after all.

’I didn’t expect there to be so many monsters coming at once,’ Rem thought as he dodged another strike coming from a Death wolf – the others were busy with their respective monsters and Rem decided to test out a skill that he hadn’t used...

[Unique Skill: Body Strengthening has been activated] 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

Rem felt his heartbeat increase and blood pump around his body, into every organ at a faster rate – adrenaline pumped into his heart, circulating to every part of his body. He drew in lesser amounts of air by the second, his lungs felt like they were on fire but he wasn’t in pain...

The ground cracked beneath his feet, more energy... more power... he felt all aspects of his body had increased, the Hellhound sent three slashes his way again but his eyes regained focus, narrowing at the beast while unveiling his Shortsword.

Rem vanished and appeared beside the Hellhound, the afterimage vanishing as the slashes passed through it. He stabbed the shortsword into the Hellhound’s neck and poured soul energy into it, he slashed through the Monster’s head with relative ease – blood spouting all over the ground.

Rem stabilized himself and blocked a baton from a goblin with his short sword.

’After strengthening my body, it’s a lot easier to block attacks without even unleashing the full extent of my power,’ Rem thought, the goblin’s baton felt like a mere tickle, ’The feeling of my lungs being on fire is still there... but it doesn’t harm me, instead I feel more invigorated,’

Rem kicked the goblin squarely on the chest, feeling all the bones of the monster break apart upon impact... the goblin shot through the air and created a crater on the opposite wall, blood splashing out and painting the crater.

Although there was no time to delve deeper into the skill as Rem was confronted by two hellhounds, they opened their mouths and howled – sound waves rippling through the air and heading to Rem, Rem smashed his feet on the ground, web-like cracks spreading all over as he made his move... A sprint through the waves of sound in an attempt to test another aspect of this skill.

He ran through the soundwaves without incurring any damage, this attack was meant to damage the ear drums of the target but for Rem who had strengthened his body with the use of the body strengthening skill, such an attack wouldn’t harm his hearing.

Upon reaching the first Hellhound, he swung his blade right at the first Hellhound’s eyes, taking them out instantly. The hellhound whined and countered with a blind slash, Rem was already out of the range of it’s slash and at it’s side, ready to drive his Shortsword into it’s head and claim it’s life.

The other Hellhound slashed at the air, three brilliant blue slashes shooting toward Rem and the Hellhound. Rem vanished into thin air and the slashes slaughtered the other Hellhound, chopping it’s head into pieces... Rem appeared below the second Hellhound, driving his blade into it’s torso, killing it instantly.

The kills were so fast that the Monster Monarch System was automatically absorbing souls that Rem killed, he felt himself growing stronger with each monster he killed. Screens were in the air around Rem... his gains flooded the air, but he dismissed them – he wanted to focus on killing and killing only, he felt himself growing stronger with each monster he killed.

Soon he stood upon a pile of monsters that he had killed, staring down with gray emotionless eyes – each of his orbs lined with green soul energy, flooding around his eyes like flames.

The monsters had stopped coming, and Rem’s focus was on a single glowering tab in front of him.

The screen vanished and was replaced with another one.

Rem saw the screen and blinked, he could now become a beastkin?

’The System just became complicated,’ Rem thought while staring at the ceiling, ’So if I kill a certain amount of monsters, I can become a human-like version of them?’

He clenched his fist and tucked his Shortsword back into it’s sheath, his legs giving out below him after he deactivated the Body strengthening skill.

"It uses quite a bit of stamina to maintain the skill," Rem muttered and looked below the pile, Ruby was leaning against a wall, she had burned through a lot of magical energy and was now drinking down a healing vial.

She had sustained a bit of wounds despite having roots that protected her, even Rem with his body being strengthened by the body strengthening skill had been wounded several times but his healing kicked in and he was able to continue fighting.

"We’ll rest!" The captain called out, his thick voice echoing around the room and the party members nodded in confirmation.
