The Lycan king-Chapter 60
*Leonora*
I hated being in the staff quarters. I hated the staring and the whispering whenever I passed. It was getting to a point where I had to restrict myself to my bed only and it was just the first day of this week long break. It was also hellish because we weren’t working- only the mansion staff and some guards. Jax had also given orders that Bethany and I should be exempted from working in the mansion.
I know this was just his way of getting into my good books but he would have to turn the world upside down before I would let him have his way.
I was counting down the time until I had to go to Jax’s room. At least when I’m there, I wouldn’t have to bother about the side talks, stares and nasty comments. I would just sleep or maybe I would ask to watch a movie. I would definitely use this opportunity to enjoy myself- at least until Claire ruined the mood.
"Nora, I still don’t understand why you don’t want to talk about what happened." Bethany said as she plopped down on my bed. From the corner of my eye, I could see Jax’s plaything and her friends secretly staring at us. "I’m your best friend, right?"
"Yes but the walls have ears. I hate that people already have more than enough to say about me." I said discreetly nodding towards ’plaything’s’ direction. It was weird that I still didn’t know her name even after everything and it was even crazy that Jax didn’t know her name.
"Oh, Rachel is harmless, to be honest. When Jax came looking for you, she threw a fit. Everyone finally found out she had been one of his girls." Bethany explained and I almost laughed. There was finally a name to the face.
"Still, let go out to our spot. I’ll tell you everything there." I said and she immediately jumped up from my bed. I got up and wore my flip flops and took her hand, strolling out of the quarters. "The drama was so much. The Cave is so nice but Luke was terrible and I got to find out Luke is Jax’s brother." I said once we were out of ear shot. I didn’t want to divulge this information to anyone else. Just Bethany because I trust her and Jax because he is the king and my mate? There was still so much we hadn’t sorted when it came to our relationship.
"Jax’s brother?! Oh my goddess. You have to tell me everything." She said and I nodded. Immediately we got to our spot, I unloaded everything to her and by the time I was done, she had tears in her eyes. "This was all my fault."
"No, why do you think so?" I asked her as she wiped her eyes frantically trying to stop the tears from falling off.
"Claire told me to warn you about Jax. That he was going to kill you. I shouldn’t have listened to her." She confessed. "She said something about she saw you and Jax having sex and she just wanted to save you because Jax just wanted to use you."
"What?! Why didn’t you tell me Claire sent you?! That one piece of information could have changed so many things." I almost screamed. I took a deep breath calming myself down from getting angry at her. I didn’t have the strength to argue with her.
"Because I thought she was trustworthy. And after seeing the way Jax beat you up, I was really scared for you. I’m so sorry. It’s all my fault." She cried and I pulled her in for a hug. "I promise to communicate better and I’ll tell you everything. I’m so sorry."
"It’s also my fault too. I finally got the opportunity to deal with my anger while I was at the cave. Now I can be a better friend to you." I said as I rubbed her back. As much as Luke tried to ruin my stay at the cave, there was so much I loved about the place. I missed running to the witch whenever something was wrong. She was like a mentor and she always gave good advice, especially with my relationship with Jax. She was able to help me over come some of the anger I felt towards Jax. I made a note to remind myself to talk to Jax about the witch. She didn’t deserved to be locked up with Luke.
Bethany and I pulled away and I wiped the tears off her eyes. "Let’s go back to our room. I have to go to Jax’s in like an hour." I said and she smiled. "Before you say anything, we are not exactly on good terms and he wants to figure out where we stand."
"I really hope everything works out fine. I really want to be your bridesmaid." She teased and I smiled. I hadn’t even thought about that. Being with a king meant that I was most likely going to jump into marriage. That’s what the council would say. They would point out that Jax needed to be his strongest and that would only happen when we mate and I become his queen.
"Weirdly enough I hope so too." I said as my cheeks heated up. It wasn’t so long ago that I planned to punish Jax for what he had done to me. I used to spend every waking minute thinking about my hatred for Jax and how I wanted to punish him for what he caused- Noah’s death. Now here I was, blushing over the fact that I might have an actual relationship with him.
Oh how the tables have turned. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
We began walking back to our room with her hands laced around each others. The one thing i desperately missed during my time at the cave was having my best friend with me and now that i had her, I wasn’t going to let her go.
