The Lich of Glory Knight Spirit: Moving towards Krimasha!-Chapter 671 - 2: Unknown Journey (2)
"As a goblin, you sure know a lot."
"Hehe, Brau likes listening to stories, all sorts of stories. There’s always something happening in stories, so Brau remembers them. Actually, I came to Shisun City because I heard there were bards and opera houses... unfortunately, they don’t welcome goblins."
A giant lizard burdened with goods seemed to be stuck in a roadside pit, while a tiger-faced creature stood on high, scolding in an unintelligible language.
A group of tusked creatures, with faces resembling wild boars, were struggling to drag the lizard out of the pit.
These were tiger-men and pigmen.
As Richie walked past the tiger-man, it cast a puzzled glance at him.
All sorts of strange species lined the path, it felt like being in a zoo.
Of course, there were some ground creatures Richie was familiar with. Such as dwarves, blood elves, wood elves, and even the Blood Clan, One-eyed Giants, and Beastmen. But relatively speaking, these familiar species were fewer here.
It is said that during the Second Era, the Abyss created many species that Keltos didn’t possess, in order to contend with Heaven. Some of these excellent creations spread far and wide, while the failures were discarded here. After tens of thousands of years of reproduction, they’ve formed many unique species here.
As they drew closer to the Stone Spires City’s gates, the surrounding buildings increased in number. Though to call them buildings isn’t accurate, they were more like mounds of earth with a few holes. The so-called streets were rough, resembling marks left by subterranean worms, even showing creases.
However, the streets became more populated with creatures, creating a sense of city life. In some places, they would gather in circles, singing some sort of poetry, with purposes unknown.
Perhaps it was some kind of wicked ritual, a transaction with demons. Such things are feared in the surface world and are conducted in secrecy. But here, it seems to be commonplace.
Suddenly, a creature the size of a small pig dashed past Richie at great speed. It bore an exoskeleton akin to an insect, with something clamped in its mouth.
At the sight of the creature, Richie paused for a moment. By the time he collected his thoughts, the creature had disappeared into the crowd.
Brau quickly introduced: "That’s the Insect Clan, my master. It should have been dispatched by their Rear Insect for an errand. I’ve heard that Shisun City has the world’s only opera house dedicated to staging Insect Clan performances."
"An opera house for the Insect Clan performances... Are there many Insects in the city?" Richie strode forward.
Brau hurriedly followed, gesturing grandiosely: "Brau heard of many, more than any other species’ residents in the city."
"Why did you hear about it? Haven’t you been inside the city?"
"Because... Because Insects generally don’t roam around. They usually stick to their own territories or stay by the side of their Rear Insects and Noble Insects. Rear Insects and Noble Insects reside in the inner city, which Brau has never entered. The outer city does have quite a few Insects, but compared to other species, it’s not that many."
"Inner city." Richie glanced at the towering city gate ahead: "You mean beyond the gate?"
"No, not at all." Brau whispered: "My master, you are still outside the city. Beyond the gate is the outer city; then there are walls and gates dividing many zones. Only once you enter can you reach the inner city. Many creatures are allowed into the outer city, but only a select few noble beings are allowed into the inner city."
"What creatures are allowed? I mean, which species are permitted to reside in the inner city."
"Uh..." After thinking, Brau quietly answered: "Demons, Fallen Angels, Lich, the Dragon Clan, Insect Clan, Blood Clan, um... Also, the Undead Lord."
"Liches among them?" Richie was taken aback.
"No, none have ever heard of them." Brau quickly explained: "Your servant meant that Liches are allowed to reside in the inner city. Not that there are Liches here. Of course, there might be; it’s just that Brau hasn’t heard of any. After all... Brau is just a goblin. Though I think Liches wouldn’t like it here anyway, since they all prefer solitary castles. This way, even if an experiment explodes, there won’t be a penalty from the city’s management."
"Alright." Richie sighed helplessly.
If there were Liches, perhaps they could help in times of trouble. Unfortunately, Richie already knew before coming that there were no Liches here.
As for the Undead Lord...
The strong species crawling from the abyss of death are not limited to just Liches. There are also Undead Lords.
They don’t mix with Liches, their numbers are scarce, their preferences and habits are entirely different. Although both belong to the undead, they are two distinct species with no interaction.
The street was ten meters wide, forming a half-arch with low sides and a high center. On either side were mound-like buildings, and the street was bustling with residents from various races. The majority wore grey robes.
From a distance, Richie paused as he spotted a group of Minotaur soldiers guarding the city gate and then stepped toward them.
Brau wanted to stop him, but it was too late, leaving him dumbfoundedly rooted to the spot.
Soon, a large axe was horizontally placed in front of Richie. It belonged to a Minotaur soldier. He wore simple leather armor, with strong muscles exposed at the gaps. At three meters tall, he nearly doubled Richie’s height.
The Minotaur glanced around, confirming that the "zombie" before him had no "master" following, then grumbled: "Get lost."
As he spoke, he rudely shoved Richie with the blunt side of the axe.
However, Richie caught it steadily with one hand.
The Minotaur froze, bending down and stretching his head to examine Richie’s face under the cloak.
Richie looked at him expressionlessly and said in Abyssal Language: "Get out of the way."
The Minotaur was startled and quickly stepped back several paces, then respectfully saluted. Other Minotaurs around looked at Richie in shock.
Turning back, Richie noticed Brau ten meters away, staring at him with wide eyes full of confusion.
Gesturing for Brau to follow, Richie continued walking through the city gate.
Brau trailed in admiration, running to catch up.
No surprises, no danger.
Minotaur soldiers around cleared the way, bowing respectfully. Passersby stopped to watch.
From afar, Richie could clearly hear them discussing among themselves.
"How did they let a zombie into the city?" 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"The zombie spoke just now."
"Zombies speaking?"
"Yes, not just speaking, it seemed to be Abyssal Language. Probably controlled by an Undead Lord."
"No wonder... These Minotaurs only bully us as usual; they wouldn’t dare confront matters of an Undead Lord."
Abyssal Language is truly beneficial.
One must say, a hierarchical society has its advantages, at least for Richie’s infiltration. As long as they assume Richie is "a zombie under an Undead Lord’s control," no one will ask further.
Because they don’t dare, Richie doesn’t even need to explain.
I hope it continues smoothly.
