Chapter 401: 400. Worries Of A Single Parent (3)

The next morning, I was in my office pondering over my father’s words about including Kai into my missions. I wondered which place was safe enough for me to take him. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

[Defender of Divine Glory wonders if you have forgotten that Kai is a Lesser Dragon with your blessing.]

[Goddess of Wisdom reminds you that you are still the strongest beings among humans and with you around there’s no way that Kai would be in any danger.]

[Giver of Gifts asks you to trust in Kai.]

I sighed and then looked at Roan who was working, "Hey, Roan."

He hummed as I called without looking at me and I narrowed my eyes using telekinesis to pluck his feather pen into the air making him snap his eyes at me.

"What is it, Master?" He asked, exasperatedly.

"I’m thinking of taking Kai on one of my missions." I said, I expected his face to go pale and the concern to brim over his steely eyes.

"Hm, that’s good, I’ll congratulate him for beginning his field work." He said in a tone that was devoid of any worry.

"A-Aren’t you worried?" I asked and he frowned while trying to get a hold of his feather pen which was afloat.

"Why would I be worried?" He asked, "You’re both Dragons, whoever can win against you two?"

Roan managed to grab his feather pen and I turned my eyes on the three sides who were watching us.

"What about you all?" I asked, "What do you think?"

"I think it is a good sign that Young Master Kai would be allowed to go on missions with you, Master." Julio said.

"I agree, Young Master Kai is your heir so, it would be beneficial for him to have the firsthand experience of going on missions with you." Blake said and I looked at Esme.

"I feel a little worried, " she admitted and my eyebrows twitched, but then she smiled, "but since you will be with him and also because Young Master Kai himself is improving at combat so, I guess my worries are unnecessary."

I exhaled loudly through my mouth and leaned back in my seat watching as my aides weren’t least bit worried about me taking Kai out on some dangerous mission.

I should go and ask someone else.

I stood up from my chair and started making my way towards the door.

"Where are you going?" Roan asked.

"I have some work,"

"But Kyrell is going to call today, didn’t you say you wanted to get some intel from Frosthail?" Roan said and I looked at him.

"If he calls while I’m gone then, tell him that I’ll call him back." I said and he frowned a bit before he sighed and I left the office.

I walked past several servants trying to locate the ones I was looking for, just as I was about to ask one of the maids I heard the knock on the large window which was mounted on the wall of the corridor.

I turned to see Nox flying outside, I opened the window and he flew over, perching on my shoulder. I spotted Kai and Lyall below in the training ground having a spar with a couple of attendants cheering for them. I spotted Enora there as well.

I leapt out of the window and my wings unfurled before I slowly landed on the ground a couple of feet away from the traing ground. Some of the attendants noticed me but I gestured for them to enjoy while I walked up to Enora who was acting as a referee for the match.

"What’s going on?" I asked.

"Young Master Kai said he would like to test his fighting skills so, he asked Lyall to be his sparring partner." Enora explained without moving her eyes from the sparring individuals.

"And you didn’t stop him?" I asked.

A small smile graced her features, "How could I? Young Master is working hard to be like you. It’s endearing that even when he’s so young he’s embraced your every ideal and principle."

"Don’t you think it might be taxing considering his age?" I asked.

She still had her eyes on the spar as she answered, "I don’t think, Master should being up the matter of age. You were about this age when you started to build your Empire and as your protege he’s on the right path."

I clenched my fists, my case was different, I was transmigrated into this younger body from my adult one but Kai was a child through and through. But I couldn’t say that.

"My case is different, Enora. Kai is different." I said and she chuckled as she watched Kai obviously losing against Lyall’s experience and expertise but he wasn’t ready to accept defeat.

"I don’t see much difference, Master. Young Master Kai might not be your flesh and blood but he has a soul that glows like you, he’s every bit like you."

I sighed, exasperatedly as I watch Lyall defeating Kai and Kai being too exhausted that his body couldn’t handle anymore than this. Yet, he leaned against his sword trying to get back to his feet.

During his time in Denril, he was quite weak and was subjected to torture and curse but after receiving my blessing he has grown to be more as a Dragon now. I could see his body developing and becoming stronger. His weak self was casted away and given rise to the boy who could carry my legacy.

"I’m thinking of taking Kai on a mission with me." I prompted hoping to see concern but she only smiled.

"Finally, I thought you were too paranoid to let Young Master out until he’s an adult." She said and my jaw nearly dropped.

"All right, it’s over!" Enora clapped her hands once calling the sparring off and Lyall relaxed his posture sheathing his sword while Kai sat on the ground huffing.

Lyall spotted me and walked up to me at once while Enora wiped the sweat from Kai’s face.

"Master," Lyall said as he stood in front of me completely dry without even a drop of sweat on his forehead.

"You will be stationed in Aurelius when Prince Eric and others return." I instructed him.

"Yes, Master," he said and I looked once at Kai who stood up with trembling legs. Enora held his hand and he tried to not take support as they made their way back to the mansion.

"I’m thinking of taking Kai on a mission this time." I said and Lyall’s eyebrows jumped but then he relaxed.

"Is that so? That’s good,"

"Even you’re not worried that he would be hurt or something?" I asked and Lyall tilted his head looking slightly confused.

"Are you worried that Young Master Kai would be hurt?" He asked and I sighed.

"Isn’t it obvious?" I asked and Lyall’s lips twitched as if he was fighting a smile.

"If someone were you attack you would you get hurt, Master?" He asked and I frowned.

"Of course, not." I said as a matter-of-fact.

He smiled, "Then how could anyone hurt Young Master Kai who is like you?" He asked and gave me a reassuring smile making me run my hand through my hair.

"Guess Kai is going with us to Shadowcliff." I muttered.

I returned to my office after that to find only Esme in the office.

"Where are the others?" I asked as I entered.

"They went on a break." She answered, "Oh, and there was a call from Frosthail, I let them know that you will call them back when you return."

I nodded as I walked up to my desk and picked up the communication device.

"You can go for your break as well," I said and heard her chair scraping before I heard her footsteps walking towards the door. The door closed behind her and I took a seat on my chair.

"Kyrell? Kyrell, are you there?" I asked and waited.

"Master?" I heard the response a couple of seconds later.

"How is it going?" I asked.

"Everything is going smoothly, Master." He responded, "And about the information you asked me to find out..."

The door opened and Roan walked in.

"Hm, what did you find?" I asked Kyrell while I looked at Roan who walked over and plopped on his seat.

"There isn’t any lady who is associated with Prince Davian." Kyrell said, "the only lady that I came to know of is Lady Charlotte Thompson, daughter of Marquis Roderick Thompson. But their engagement talks were annulled years ago, since then there wasn’t any contact between them. And there’s no other lady that could be close to him."

I hummed as I leaned back in my chair and asked, "What about a man?"

Roan coughed, taken aback by my question and stared at me incredulously.

"There doesn’t seem to be any such man as per the reports... Well... But, there’s only one such man whom Prince Davian had been trying to seek out frequently." Kyrell said and I frowned.

"Who?"

"It’s... you, Master Ocean." Kyrell said.

"Ah, right." I mumbled and Roan stared at me.

"Is that all?" I asked.

"Uh... And also," he started, "Grand Duke and Grand Duchess dropped by at Izkar."

"Why?"

"They asked me to pass on a message,"

"What is it?"

"They asked you to come to Frosthail yourself if you wanted to find more about their son." He said with the hint of hesitation and I laughed. I expected them to find out about it ever since I told them that I was associated with Izkar.

"What are the next instructions, Master?" He asked.

"Just continue with your regular work, and leave the gossip about Davian for now." I said.

"Yes, Master." He said before I placed the device down.

"Oi, what was that?" Roan asked and I smiled.

"Davian seems to have some sweetheart, and since I have the best information guild, he challenged me to find them." I shrugged and he sighed.

"And you think it could be a man?" He asked and I hummed.

"If he’s happy then, who are we to judge?" I smiled and he ran his hand through his hair.

"Aren’t you adding to the fact that he can be in love with you- I mean, with Master Ocean Ryujin?!" He pointed out and I waved my hand dismissively.

"Nope, I talked to him and it seems like someone with whom he has a hard time speaking." I said and Roan rolled his eyes.

"I won’t be surprised if he would come up here and propose you," Roan said, "It will be a disaster when he comes to know that his lover is nothing but a puppet body."

"Hey, don’t call my beautiful creation a puppet body." I chided and he shook his head with a sigh.

The day passed by and during dinner, I decided to talk to Kai, he was eating silently with Sylvia also at the table sitting beside him.

I observed as Kai stole occassional glances at me and Sylvia also seemed a little fidgety as if she wanted to say something. She and Kai exchanged glances frequently as if urging each other to say something.

"Kai," I spoke up after watching their sounless back and forth.

"Yes?" He flinched and I watched as Sylvia gave him an encouraging look.

"Tomorrow when you go to your lessons, tell Marquis Fairisles and Archmage that you won’t be available the next day." I instructed and he tilted his head.

"Pardon, why?" He asked and I smiled.

"Because you’re going with me to watch a play." I said and he blinked taken aback.

"Pardon?" He spoke, "Is it the play that you were telling me about a couple of days ago?"

"No, this one is different. Lyall will come along and we will also be having a tail so, I hope you have some time tomorrow for me to tell you about the plan." I said and he stared at me.

"Plan?" He asked and I smiled looking at Sylvia who seemed to have understood.
