The Happy Farmer Wanderer-Chapter 111 Compensation_1
Yu Lan slapped Li Qing embarrassingly and rolled her eyes as she chided, "Forget it, just call me auntie."
"’Little Treasure’ sounds pretty nice though," Li Qing said with a laugh.
"It’s giving me the creeps," Yu Lan replied irritably, glancing at Li Qing. A moment later, a touch of sadness crossed her face, "I shouldn’t be so happy, but I do feel a sense of relief all of a sudden."
"Little Treas... Auntie, you haven’t wronged him, it’s he who didn’t cherish you." Under Yu Lan’s piercing gaze, Li Qing ended up not calling out ’Little Treasure’ and reverted to the old-sounding title "auntie."
The sound of a motorcycle horn came from outside, likely signaling Hu Wei’s return.
Li Qing gave Yu Lan a gentle hug, "Sister-in-law, you go first, I’ll be over in a bit."
Yu Lan’s head dropped slightly in a nod.
When Li Qing came out of the house, Hu Wei had just parked the motorcycle and was walking into the yard.
Li Qing didn’t know what to say, so he simply patted Hu Wei’s broad and hefty back before heading straight home.
After changing his clothes at home, Li Qing called Gao Li and asked him to get ready to leave.
His motorcycle was still parked in town.
Actually, even if the motorcycle had been at home, he wouldn’t have been able to ride it in his current state.
When Gao Li arrived, the two of them went to the county together.
By the time Li Qing reached the police station, he saw in the yard the motorcycle that Hu Wei had borrowed.
It seemed they had already arrived.
In the reception room, Li Qing met Officer Wang, the young officer from the day before.
"The gist of the case is already clear. Today, I called you in mainly for two things, to assess the damages and discuss compensation. If you have anything else to add, you can do so in your statement. If not, this case will be concluded," Officer Wang said seriously.
This all aligned with what Li Qing had expected. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"Officer, that bastard Hu Youyu can’t be let off easily," Gao Li, who had accompanied Li Qing, exclaimed emotionally, "I’m telling you, that kid is rotten to the core."
"Smashing windows at a widow’s house at night, forcibly renting other people’s land, taking money to fix connections. When he takes a fancy to a married woman, his shady tactics are endless, causing families to fall apart. I’ve heard of several such cases."
Officer Wang frowned heavily upon hearing this, "Any evidence?"
"Officer, that’s a funny question you’re asking. If I had evidence, what would I need you for? You can ask anyone in Sanhe Village or elsewhere about these things; nine out of ten people know about it," Gao Li said with a crooked smile.
Officer Wang’s expression turned somber, "We’ll investigate these allegations and also pass them on to the prosecution. If they prove true, the law will not tolerate such a scourge to continue at large."
"Heh, that’s what I like to hear. The folks in Sanhe Village and the surrounding areas are all waiting for the good news from Officer Wang," Gao Li chuckled.
All of a sudden, Li Qing realized Gao Li was quite sly.
Listening to him talk, he even caused the officer to change his expression.
"Do you have anything else to add?" Officer Wang asked Li Qing.
Li Qing shook his head, "What I wanted to add, Gao Li has just mentioned. Indeed, we have no evidence, but we know of a few families who have been living miserably because of Hu Youyu in the past few years."
"Write it down!" Officer Wang ordered.
Li Qing and Gao Li collaborated for a change.
They wrote down the families bullied by Hu Youyu over the years and the general details of their ordeals, supplementing the report with a new statement.
An hour later, Officer Wang looked at the thick stack of statements, a good dozen pages, and fell silent.
"We will handle this case with great care, one by one, and we absolutely won’t let anyone off the hook," Officer Wang said in a deep voice, weighing the statement in his hand.
"Officer Uncle, we and the folks from Sanhe Village all firmly believe that you will definitely not let any criminals get away. Although it’s a bit late in discovering it, as long as justice is served, that’s a good result," Gao Li snapped his feet together and stood at attention, speaking with fervent passion.
The young Officer Wang’s lips twitched slightly. "We will. Also, I’m not older than you."
"Officer Uncle is a term of respect, unrelated to age!" Gao Li said with passionate conviction.
Li Qing: ...
Li Qing had dealt with Gao Li quite a few times but had never seen this side of him before.
This guy’s mouth was surprisingly formidable.
"Let’s talk about compensation!" Officer Wang glanced at Gao Li then forcefully redirected the conversation to Li Qing.
"How much can I ask for?" Li Qing asked bluntly.
"The hospital issued a certificate stating a minor injury, but it’s relatively serious, you have to consider this yourself," Officer Wang said.
Li Qing truly didn’t know how to approach this, simply put, the more the better.
As poor as could be, he certainly wouldn’t complain about too much money.
But considering the relationship between Yu Lan and Hu Wei, he couldn’t demand an exorbitant amount.
Having already sent Hu Youyu away, there was no need to add fuel to the fire.
"A compensation of eight thousand for the medical expenses will be enough," Li Qing said after thinking for a while.
"Eight thousand?" Gao Li gave Li Qing a hard tug.
But Li Qing didn’t react at all.
This figure clearly surprised Officer Wang, but he didn’t say much more, just nodded his head.
"This money won’t be given to you immediately, go back and wait for news," Officer Wang said.
"Can we go now?" Li Qing asked.
"Yes, go back," Officer Wang replied.
Once outside the reception room, Gao Li began to speak anxiously: "Qingzi, have you lost your mind? How can you only ask for eight thousand at this time? Didn’t you see even the police officer was shocked? Eighty thousand would be more like it."
"I have a good relationship with Hu Wei," Li Qing said indifferently.
"Even if you have a good relationship with Hu Wei, you can’t afford to be confused at this time. You took several stabs, is that something eight thousand can settle? You really are too soft-hearted," Gao Li said with heartfelt anguish.
It seemed that Li Qing asking for only eight thousand made him more upset than if he himself had lost eighty thousand.
Li Qing just smiled and didn’t say much.
His relationship with Hu Wei was secondary, he seemed more like he wanted to take into account Yu Lan.
With Hu Youyu gone, Yu Lan should be able to make decisions about the household matters.
Li Qing waited at the bottom for a while, but when Yu Lan and Hu Wei didn’t show up, he headed back to the village first.
But just as he arrived at the village square at the entrance, he was stopped by a group of people.
At the forefront was Hu Youqing, Hu Youyu’s cousin.
He was accompanied by a bunch of Hu Family’s youths and women, making quite a spectacle.
