The Duke's Masked Wife 2: The Prince's Outcast Bride-Chapter 152: Returning gifts (2)
Chapter 152: Returning gifts (2)
"It is time that we move on," Penelope informed the group. "Excuse us."
Standing around to speak to Cassius or his brother would only fill his head with the belief that they were friends or had some kind of relationship where they could speak often.
Penelope didn’t want anything to do with Cassius. She didn’t want to hear about his carriage anymore, and since she wasn’t the one to ruin it, Cassius should meet with Tyrion.
Penelope walked around Cassius and succeeded in getting away for a moment.
Luckily, Damien’s sword was placed to shield her from Cassius.
"Rue, have your spider ready to attack. There’s a pest we need to get rid of," said Penelope.
Why couldn’t men simply listen?
Rue didn’t want to give all the fun to her pet. She wanted to be the one to get rid of the man who didn’t know how to make use of his ears and feet.
"Damien," Penelope said, looking over her shoulder at her guard. "Do what you must to get him away from my side. This has turned into harassing a lady who doesn’t want to speak."
Penelope would use Cassius as an example for people who didn’t know when to end the unwanted conversation.
Penelope’s guards existed for a reason, so she was going to make use of them even when she didn’t want to draw attention to herself.
"With pleasure," Damien said, unsheathing his sword. He pointed the sharp blade at Cassius’s neck.
It was going to be fun for Damien to take back the head of the man Tyrion wanted to find.
"You’ll have to excuse my brother. He doesn’t listen when I say to leave ladies alone when they say no. I am Quinn Monroe," a stranger said, extending his hand out to Penelope.
Penelope watched as Damien shifted Quinn’s hand away from her. She didn’t have an interest in Quinn.
"If you care for your brother, you will take him away from my sight before he is dealt with by my guards," said Penelope.
Quinn smiled, understanding why Cassius was so drawn to Penelope. "You have little clue of how it pleases me that there is someone to make my brother regret his words. I am tired of having to pull him away from a lady’s side."
Quinn continued to say, "I would love to see you punish him, but our mother would not be pleased if I do not bring him home in one piece. Would you be so kind as to teach him a lesson when I am not around?"
"I am not his mother to teach him anything. Good day," Penelope said, trying to leave again.
Penelope was relieved to see Damien carrying out her order to keep not only Cassius away from her, but Quinn as well.
Quinn had not done anything wrong, but his association with Cassius placed him in a bad position.
"I will guard you," Rue whispered to Penelope.
Rue kept sneaking glances at where the men stood. If needed, she would join in on getting rid of the bodies.
"Thank you," Penelope said, holding Rue’s hand. "We should shop. I have money to use, but I have nowhere to spend it. I will treat both of you today."
"How lovely that Tyrion spoils you," said Julie.
"I find it to be suspicious. He handed me money so I could spend as I want and be out as long as I want while he is with my father. They must be up to something. I will have to ask when he returns," Penelope said.
"Will he tell you everything?" ƒrēenovelkiss.com
"I don’t see why not," Penelope replied.
Tyrion had his secret plans concerning many people around the town, but Penelope didn’t think he would lie to her or not reveal what she wanted to know.
Penelope grew up watching how her father cared for her mother and knew that not everything needed to be revealed. Tyrion was trying to protect her and keep the peace around them so Penelope wouldn’t pry into everything.
As long as they were able to speak freely about what they felt, Penelope was satisfied. Penelope knew there would come a time when Tyrion would seek to know something from her.
As the woman walked away, Damien dealt with the two brothers.
Damien didn’t see any resemblance in the two men, and no part of their facial features reminded him of anyone around the town.
"There’s no need for violence. I apologise on behalf of my brother for his actions. I will take him away from here and do my best so he does not approach Lady Penelope for the rest of the day," Quinn promised.
Damien lowered his sword. The next time Damien had to raise his sword to either man, their head would fall.
"Keep him away from her for good," said Damien.
Quinn kept his gaze on the sword. "Good. It wouldn’t do anything well for your lady for her guards to kill someone when there are others around to see. It won’t affect you. It will affect her. Don’t let my foolish brother spoil her day."
"He won’t," Damien said, leaving Quinn to catch up to Penelope.
Cassius was going to be dealt with in due time, since even now he couldn’t keep his eyes off of Penelope.
Quinn placed his hand before Cassius so that he would foolishly run after Penelope.
"I take my eyes off of you for one second, and you take it upon yourself to trouble a married woman," Quinn said, annoyed with his brother. "Couldn’t you see her and leave her be? This is why you will not find a wife."
Quinn watched Penelope a little more before going back to what he came to the market for.
"She is lovely, isn’t she?" Cassius asked.
"She is, but she will have your hands severed if you are not careful. Not that I would mind," Quinn said, since his brother would deserve it. "Focus on what you came for. I swear, if I didn’t tell mother I would care for you, I would have long abandoned you."
Cassius shifted his gaze away from Penelope to his brother. "I am quite useful to you. If I were not around, who would you have? Tell me honestly, are you not curious about her? The entire town is."
"I am sure they are," Quinn replied.
"I-" Cassius started to speak, but stopped when his brother glared at him.
"We have a home to fill with things we will need, and you are out chasing after married ladies. You missed your chance to be with her, so let it go," Quinn advised Cassius. "You will die if you don’t."
