Nathaniel Nathan’s words were forceful and domineering, his expression making it seem like the most natural thing in the world.

Vera Xavier stared at his cold, serious face, thinking she must have misheard. She froze for a second, and he repeated impatiently, "Kiss me!"

Since her rebirth, Vera Xavier had been trying her best to accept him, but he was completely different from the person she remembered. She truly felt he was the definition of "stoic but passionate," and it took every ounce of her strength to deal with his reserved nature and sharp tongue.

She glanced at his face again. ’Can I just say that his way of demanding a kiss is completely obnoxious?’

His patience had run out. He reached out, pulled her into his arms, and pressed a fierce kiss to her lips.

Vera Xavier sighed inwardly. ’His temper is really something else!’

His kiss was as domineering and direct as he was, sweeping over her like a wildfire.

Just as the kiss deepened and he was about to press further, a knock sounded at the door, followed by Zachary Preston’s voice. "Vera, are you asleep?"

Vera felt as if she had been struck by lightning. She quickly pushed Nathaniel Nathan away. "Not yet! Dad, is something wrong?"

Her voice trembled uncontrollably, and her mind went blank. If Zachary Preston, with his old-fashioned ways, found Nathaniel Nathan in her room at this hour, she wouldn’t be able to clear her name even if she jumped into the Ochre River!

Most importantly, it wasn’t as if things between them were entirely innocent to begin with!

She gave Nathaniel Nathan an urgent shove, motioning for him to leave quickly.

Nathaniel Nathan glanced at the door, then back at Vera Xavier, and pointed to his lips.

Vera wanted to strangle him. ’Of all the times to be bargaining with me! Is he saying he won’t leave unless I kiss him?’

Zachary Preston knocked again. "Vera, open the door. I need to talk to you about something."

Vera quickly called out, "Okay, Dad, just a second!" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

She had no other choice. She stood on her tiptoes, gave Nathaniel Nathan a quick peck, then pushed him again with a pleading look.

Though somewhat dissatisfied, Nathaniel Nathan knew when to quit while he was ahead. He slipped out through the window once more.

Vera rushed to close the window, smoothed out her clothes, and checked to make sure she looked normal before opening the door. What she failed to notice was that her lips were now swollen and rosy, and her face was still flushed bright red.

When she opened the door, Zachary Preston saw her complexion and the color of her lips. He asked in surprise, "Vera, are you sick? Why is your face so red?"

Vera’s mind raced. "I’m not sick. I was just doing some sit-ups in my room. With all the stress from my studies lately, it’s more important than ever to stay in shape."

Even she felt a nervous sweat after spouting that lie.

Fortunately, Zachary Preston didn’t overthink it. He even added, "No wonder your voice sounded a bit off. I’m glad you’ve come to realize that. After all, no matter how important your studies are, your health comes first."

Hearing this only made Vera feel more guilty, so she quickly changed the subject. "So, Dad, what did you need to see me about?"

"Oh, you’ve been back for a while now and still haven’t seen your grandfather and grandmother. I’d like to take you to visit them," Zachary Preston replied. "I know your schoolwork is demanding, but as one of the younger generation, you can’t neglect your family obligations. Besides, I don’t want you to put too much pressure on yourself with school. Just do your best."

Vera’s expression stiffened. She was instantly reminded of her past life. In that life, after she had escaped from Nathaniel Nathan’s clutches and returned to the Preston Family, she had also gone with Zachary Preston to visit her grandparents.
