Rona Langdon stared at the dingy quilt. She didn’t want to stay here for even one more day!

But the thought of going back just like this was too humiliating, so she could only grit her teeth and bear it.

When Nathaniel Nathan returned to the Nathan residence, Master Nathan was playing chess against himself. Seeing him, the old man said, "The base just called. They want you to head back. There’s an urgent mission to carry out."

Nathaniel Nathan’s brows furrowed immediately. Seeing his expression, Master Nathan asked with a smile, "What’s wrong? Can’t bear to leave Vera?"

Nathaniel Nathan’s current leave had already been quite long. In fact, he had extended it once already because of Vera. For the base to call again, it had to be an emergency.

"I asked you to look after her, so why all the useless chatter?" Nathaniel Nathan grumbled, a hint of dissatisfaction in his voice.

Master Nathan pursed his lips. "You little brat. I’m your grandfather! You’re getting more and more disrespectful!"

Nathaniel Nathan glanced at him and said, "I have an idea. I need you to carry it out."

He then leaned in and whispered a few words into Master Nathan’s ear. Master Nathan’s eyes went wide as saucers. "I can’t believe that mulish blockhead of yours could come up with a plan like this! Alright, alright, I can finally rest easy. No more worrying about a scoundrel like you being unable to find a wife!"

Nathaniel finally felt a bit more at ease after making this arrangement. Master Nathan winked at him. "Since you care so much about Vera, why not just marry her and bring her home? Go file a marriage application when you get back to the base this time. You two should get married sooner rather than later."

Nathaniel Nathan remained silent. ’He wasn’t about to tell Master Nathan that he’d already submitted the marriage application a long time ago. Or that he and Vera already had their marriage certificate.’

’Right now, he was mulling something over. If he left just like this, without saying goodbye to her, it would feel like something was missing.’

He glanced at the time. There were still three hours before he had to leave. Without a moment’s hesitation, he went to find Vera.

By now, it was already dark. He really didn’t want to see the other two women of the Preston family, so he opted to simply climb the wall.
