The Celibate Tycoon Has Fallen-Chapter 77: Invite Him Home as a Guest
Yelena Hughes was stunned in place, she hadn’t expected Jasper Yale to say something like that.
She purposely provoked him, purposely said those things, and her goal was achieved.
Jasper Yale lost all interest in touching her.
But the bitterness in Yelena Hughes’s heart only grew stronger.
Jasper Yale walked to the door, knocked lightly on it, "Hailey Jenkins, bring in her clothes."
"Yes."
Yelena Hughes hid in the bathroom, and soon after, there was a knock on the door from outside.
Jasper Yale opened the door to see Madeline Forest standing outside, holding Yelena Hughes’s clothes in one hand and covering her eyes with the other.
Jasper Yale didn’t reach out to take them, "Bring them in."
Madeline Forest had no choice but to lower her hand and walk inside. "Yelena?"
Yelena Hughes responded, and Madeline Forest quickly walked to the bathroom door, leaving the clothes and shoes there, where she hurriedly changed.
Madeline Forest stood there awkwardly, having glimpsed that Yelena Hughes wasn’t wearing clothes, clearly something had happened in the room.
Jasper Yale threw Yelena Hughes’s coat from the bed as well.
"Take it away."
When Yelena Hughes came out, she saw Jasper Yale sitting on the sofa, appearing disinterested in her.
"Money..."
"I didn’t bring a check with me, I’ll have someone send it to you tomorrow."
Yelena Hughes turned the coat inside out, luckily it wasn’t completely soaked, and she managed to put it on.
They left, and Shawn Thorne was waiting outside, seeing Yelena Hughes’ hair dried and clothes on, he glanced at the time, "Been in there so long?"
Yelena Hughes feared he still wouldn’t let her leave, "Yeah, the young master took a bit longer."
As soon as she finished speaking, footsteps approached from behind.
Jasper Yale heard this too, Shawn Thorne laughed dryly, "Got the money, did they make it up to you?"
A breeze brushed over Yelena Hughes’s face, "Yeah."
She immediately added, "Tonight, I earned Master Thorne enough face, didn’t I?"
"Of course, thanks to you."
"Can we go now? It was really cold just now, I’m feeling a bit unwell."
Shawn Thorne looked towards Jasper Yale behind her, "What does the young master say?"
"Scram."
He only gave that one word.
Shawn Thorne watched as Yelena Hughes held Madeline Forest’s hand, the two of them walking quickly away, he looked at her back, "People who can risk their lives for money are pretty scary too."
He actually knew best that Yelena Hughes was only earning money to pay off Madeline Forest’s debts.
Was she a bit silly?
They got off the cruise ship, and Madeline Forest didn’t speak the whole way, there was no subway nearby, only a bus that could take them back.
Yelena Hughes checked the route map, and when she turned back, she saw Madeline Forest sitting on a bench, her hands tightly holding her head.
She sighed, "Madeline."
"I’m not crying, I’m trying to convince myself, don’t worry about me, really..."
Madeline Forest didn’t want to burden Yelena Hughes anymore, but that’s just her nature, she couldn’t help it.
Yelena Hughes walked over, placing a hand on her shoulder, "I’ll find a way."
"What way is there?"
"Trust me, okay?" Yelena Hughes smiled, "Don’t forget, I’m still a journalist. Master Thorne loves to play, with his careless nature, he’ll cause trouble sooner or later."
Madeline Forest sensed the underlying meaning, "Yelena... don’t scare me, you can’t fight against them."
"If I can’t fight them, I’ll run." Yelena Hughes laughed at herself.
She wouldn’t put herself in a situation to be constantly beaten, but these young masters were tricky, with families backing them up; she needed to take it slow.
The next morning, Yelena Hughes just woke up, didn’t even change clothes, and walked out of the room.
Suddenly there was a loud knock on the door from outside.
Lindsay Walsh quickly came out of the kitchen. "Who is it?"
No one answered, Yelena Hughes, afraid of waking Anne, rushed to open the door, only to find no one outside, just a cardboard box at the doorway.
Lindsay Walsh leaned out halfway, "Where’s the person?"
Yelena Hughes stared at the box, a bit apprehensive.
Lindsay Walsh glanced at it, bent down to pick it up, but Yelena Hughes held her back.
"Mom, don’t touch it."
"What’s wrong?"
Yelena Hughes was scared, "Did you forget about last time?"
Months ago, someone left a shoebox at their door, with a dead snake inside.
Lindsay Walsh retracted her hand, "Just throw it in the trash then."
"I’ll do it." Yelena Hughes pushed Lindsay Walsh back inside, afraid of scaring her, "Don’t look."
She was actually scared too, but someone had to handle it, Yelena Hughes closed the door and gently nudged the lid open with her foot.
A corner of what’s inside was exposed, shocking Yelena Hughes. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
It was money.
She crouched down, opened the box, and found it was full of money.
Yelena Hughes quickly closed it up, carried it inside, and Lindsay Walsh, seeing this, anxiously asked, "What’s inside?"
"Oh, just some snacks I ordered online, sent right to me."
Lindsay Walsh patted her chest, "Scared me to death."
Yelena Hughes took the box back to her room, took all the money out, and counted it—fifty bundles total.
Isn’t it a bit scary so early in the morning?
Wouldn’t giving a check have been easier?
Afraid her mom would find out, Yelena Hughes quickly stashed the money under her bed.
When she found time, she deposited it, keeping her bank card well-hidden, afraid of losing it.
A few days later.
While Yelena Hughes was washing up, Lindsay Walsh entered the room, "Anne, where’s your sister’s phone?"
"Here it is." Anne pointed.
Lindsay Walsh picked it up, Anne knew the password, she had her open it, "Look for Yale’s phone number."
"Mom, what are you doing?"
"He saved your life, I want to thank him properly, but never had the chance. I’m off tomorrow, I’d like to invite him for dinner."
Anne didn’t dare decide, "Sister probably won’t agree, right? Besides, that guy doesn’t seem approachable."
"Anne, it’s a life-saving favor; we can’t take it for granted."
Upon hearing this, Anne obediently flipped through Yelena Hughes’s contacts.
Jasper Yale’s number, she saved it later, just a flick down and you’d see it.
"Mom, only this person has the surname Yale, it should be him."
Lindsay Walsh took the phone outside and dialed the number.
On the other end, Jasper Yale saw the incoming call display, and without much hesitation, answered, "Hello."
"Hello, is this Yale?"
"..."
Jasper Yale paused, the voice was not Yelena Hughes’s, "Yes."
"I’m Yelena’s mom, I’d like to invite you over for dinner tomorrow night, if you’re available?" Lindsay Walsh was very polite, her tone careful, ready for Jasper Yale to refuse.
He didn’t give an immediate answer, and Lindsay Walsh was anxious.
"No other reason, just want to thank you."
Jasper Yale said, "Okay."
When Yelena Hughes returned to the room, Lindsay Walsh had already put the phone back, "Yelena, don’t go to your part-time job tomorrow night, come home early."
"Is there something?"
"Yes," Lindsay Walsh had her excuse ready, "A relative is sick, in the hospital, we need to visit."
"Alright."
Yelena Hughes agreed, and took leave with Chester the next day.
As soon as she got off work and went home, pushing the door open, something felt off.
