The Broken Halo-Chapter 44: You?
Simon could not recount how many times he cursed his life as a demon.
It had been nothing but terrible, and even when there was a flicker of something wonderful happening, it was taken away from him.
One more step.
Just one more step was all he needed so that his bloodline could experience a drastic change which would grant him more strength and a greater chance of survival.
He was so close to experiencing something wonderful, and although it would definitely not have helped him in his current situation, it would surely increase his chances of survival.
However, when he was so close. So, so close to obtaining this opportunity, it was taken away from him.
It would have been better if he was not given this opportunity instead of the opportunity being snatched away from him just as he was about to grasp it.
The pain he felt could not even be put into words.
But after waking up a few days later, the pain he felt back then was something he now wished for.
BAM!
He seriously hated his second life as a demon.
BAM!
Splatter!
A fist landed on the left hand side of his face, and blood splattered from his mouth and nose onto the wall.
Simon’s head fell to the side limply, and blood slowly dropped from his swollen, broken, and bloody mouth.
His face was completely bruised and swollen along with cuts and blood.
His eyes were swollen and he could barely see a single thing. His vision was blurry and all he could see was red.
A hand grabbed his head and made it stand upright. A second later...
Slap!
A loud slap echoed in the room and more blood fell out of Simon’s mouth. He could not even make a sound because he was exhausted.
"Where is the Devourer’s blood essence?"
A dog beastkin demon asked with a cold expression as he stared at Simon who was chained to the ceiling with his arms spread wide apart and the tip of his toes barely touching the ground.
Simon looked at the demon who had a dog face but a humanoid body. One of the demon’s eyes had a cut across it, and Simon could also see another scar across the demon’s neck.
When he woke up after getting unconscious, he found himself back in his cell and in chains once again.
He didn’t know how long he was unconscious for, but he noticed that he felt better.
The injuries he had were healed, and even his right arm was also healed. He was certain that it was the Shadowgrave Clan that healed him, and he could guess why.
After whatever happened to him in that strange hall and space, his body needed time to rest and adapt to the changes it was experiencing, and if it was not able to adapt, he could die.
And if he died, the Devourer’s blood essence they wanted would also die with him.
Although it was a good thing they healed him, what happened an hour after he woke up was anything but good.
In fact, his condition worsened and he was having a difficult time thinking.
This demon dog came into his cell and asked him where the Devourer’s blood essence was, and his response was...
"I don’t have it."
The moment he said this, the demon dog landed a powerful punch on his face that nearly shattered his jaw.
The demon dog was an Awakened Demon of the Supreme Grade, and whenever he looked at Simon, there was always a flicker of innate hatred and disgust in its gaze.
Simon had no idea, but even if he asked, the demon would definitely not answer.
The demon asked him for the location of the Devourer’s blood essence and his answer was always the same. This led to him receiving numerous punches on his face, stomach, and chest.
He was punched, slapped, and spat on by the demon dog, and the demon dog did not even give him the opportunity to rest for a minute.
"Where is the blood essence, cat?" The demon dog asked the same question he had always been asking, and Simon’s answer was always the same.
"I don’t know."
BAM!
Another familiar punch landed on his face, and his face was so battered and bruised to the point that he could not even feel anything anymore on his face.
He wondered if he would even be able to have a proper face and not a disfigured face if he eventually survived this torture.
"Damn you, cat. You’re just a bloody kid, so why are you making this difficult for both of us."
Simon remained silent, and the demon dog released a frustrated sigh.
"Tell me where the blood essence is and this would end. I’d have no reason to beat you up anymore and I can go on with my life. I don’t want to spend anymore time with a damn cat. You sicken me."
Simon remained silent, and the demon dog clicked his tongue in anger. He pulled Simon’s hair to the back, causing his head to hang backward.
"Hey-"
The demon dog stopped speaking when he noticed that Simon was unconscious.
He scoffed and slapped Simon on the cheeks ’softly’.
"And who said you could sleep, huh?"
Pa
Pa
Simon was forced awake, and when he saw the smirking face of the demon dog, he groaned.
"I already told you. I don’t know where it is."
The demon dog’s left eye twitched, then he let go of Simon and took a few steps to the back before landing a powerful kick on his ribs.
Crack!
Simon gasped loudly in pain as the sound of his ribs cracking echoed in the cell.
He gritted his teeth and groaned loudly, then the demon dog approached him and looked at him straight in the eyes.
"If you want to make this difficult, just know that I can do this all day, cat."
"You can, but the higher ups want results as soon as possible, so... I’ll be taking it from here."
An unknown voice drifted into the ears of Simon and the demon dog, and the moment the demon dog turned and saw the source of the voice, he trembled uncontrollably.
"You?"
