Chapter 123: Grace

Severin was getting used to the brutal shockwave that followed, the one that slammed into him and nearly sent him face first into the ground.

He gritted his teeth and assessed the situation after balancing himself. ’....all of them are too busy tearing into each other....I should find a way to escape while at it....’

He turned towards the throne. "Anansi said the shadow Lord sits above the door. But I don’t have two Stigma and my shadow is still right there, chained."

"Should I get myself involved in this?" Severin muttered. He turned his head to look at the sky where the shadow Lord and Veyron were battling.

Far above, he saw sparks and deep rolling of darkness, the occasional rumble, and even far below he felt the shockwave as it reached him.

"The shadow Lord can repair my shadow." He muttered to himself. "I think I know where to go."

"I am getting involved." Severin said sharply.

He raised his right hand towards his left one and placed it against the tattoo that was drawn, warped around it. The tattoo shuddered and twisted, flowing as his hand reached in, and then he drew out a card.

It was a black card. The invitation card.

He raised the card and pointed it at the Pandora Box.

The box shuddered and came to life, the dark in it pulled back, and the tiny stars glowed, rays of sharp light blasting out. From inside, a green light that was glowing softly darted towards him, and Severin caught it.

The light was like the one on a candle, only it was green and gave no light.

Severin smiled. "Grace."

He carefully returned the invitation card, and then he held the green light in his right hand. "Now then... how do I use this weapon?"

Boom!

Before he could think further, though, Xaen was sent hurling back. One of her new wings and her right hand was cut neatly into two. She rammed into the pit of lava she made and growled as she stood back up, unharmed.

Anansi came into view as well. His dressing and form had changed as well. He had become thinner and was cloaked in a black hood. He held a dark scythe in his hand. He froze when he saw Severin and what he was holding. "What is that in your hand?"

Severin raised the green light. "Are you asking about this?"

Anansi took a step forward, his scythe dragging on the ground, the sharp curve cutting the floor as if it was made of butter and his weapon made of hot knife. "How did you get this in your hand... that’s... that’s from my Pandora Box!"

Severin gave him an embarrassed smile. "Actually, this is my Pandora Box. Have you forgotten who the box was given to in the story?"

"Fearing their potential, Zeus sealed the box with chains of celestial fire and a lock requiring the blood of Severus, entrusting it to Pandora, a mortal man crafted with beauty and a restless curiosity. He warned him to guard it in a hidden vault beneath his home with an invitation card."

Severin spread his hand. "I am Severus and I have the invitation card. This is my box!"

Anansi’s face twisted. "You... you are not part of the story. It’s not your story!"

Severin shrugged. "I took a gamble. I reasoned, the more powerful the story, the much easier it is to twist it. And I know you are going to focus on the box more than the mere character. You ate a lie with your story, Anansi.

"I am the lie!"

Anansi was so stunned he couldn’t speak. The shadow in its body let out a long wail. "You fucking bastard!"

"Ah! You are not Anansi. How do you expect not to be outsmarted? It seems the table has turned. Mortal boy, how about we finish off Anansi before we talk."

Severin smiled softly. "Fine by me." freёnovelkiss-com

Then he ate the green light.

The light traveled down his throat like a bolt of lightning. His face twisted in agony, and his body shuddered with the pain. The pores on his skin seemed to open, and green light drilled out, weaving up his body.

The green light formed a suspended crown atop his head.

Severin finally straightened. "This is interesting."

His voice was clear and sharp, but his eyes were a bit blurry as if there was something stuck there. "When you are ready, Ant queen."

Xaen stared. "You little...!"

But Severin was already on the move. He laughed as he propelled himself forward with the force and speed that should have torn his body apart, but just felt like mild discomfort against his skin.

He appeared in front of Anansi as if he teleported. He clapped. "Surprise!"

Beng!

Two giant hands made of green throbbing energy appeared before Anansi and clapped, catching him between them!

Bones cracked, and Anansi was clapped.

He fell to the ground as the hands disappeared. His body seemed to have shrunken, his bones pressed together, but the bastard was still alive, breathing.

The scythe he was holding was raised, and shadow boomed beneath.

The shadows drilled into its body and healed him.

Severin raised his brows. "A weapon of death can also heal? What a contradiction!"

Anansi sneered and leaped at him. He slashed with the weapon, but Xaen was there to intercept it with her remaining wing. With the spikes in her hand, she punched out.

Anansi grunted and moved back.

Severin struck.

He pointed his hand, and a spear the size of his finger suddenly materialized and grew in length sharply. The spear stabbed into Anansi’s shoulder and tore out the flesh, popping his bones.

The hand that held the weapon went limp, and Xaen was there to take advantage.

The woman used her spiked hand to slash Anansi’s own, ripping the hand free at the elbow.

The hand and weapon fell to the ground with a ringing clang.

Severin made a scythe of his own, several times his own body weight, then he swung it.

Low on the ground.

The scythe cut through Anansi’s legs easily.
