Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Injured Leg

"Heath..." Moira Young’s heart leapt to her throat, "Please stop... park the car!"

She knew shouting here was futile, but she just wanted to scream, even wanted to rush in and yank Heath’s car!

The car was clearly on fire; why wouldn’t he stop!

"Don’t worry, don’t worry, if he doesn’t stop, it means it’s nothing major!" Carter Porter was actually worried too, but seeing Moira Young was a bit scared, he tried to calm down and stabilize the situation.

Moira Young’s nose stung with emotion, "Wasn’t it supposed to be a friendly race... why continue when it’s come to this..."

"That black and red car probably said something that provoked Heath, otherwise with his unrestrained nature, he wouldn’t be pushing himself like this." Carter had seen similar situations before; that time, Heath wasn’t in any serious trouble but was still injured.

Carter had been drinking today, so he naturally couldn’t drive. He instinctively took out his phone to call an ambulance just in case.

"The track is a full circle, the start is the finish, he’s almost there, don’t worry." Carter didn’t know how to comfort her, his own nerves made his speech somewhat incoherent.

"Okay... okay... I won’t worry." Moira Young took a deep breath, suddenly, a terrifying thought inexplicably flashed through her mind.

"Carter... could his brakes have burnt out?"

Carter’s legs went soft, his voice turned sharp, "No way!"

As the two of them stared at each other at a loss for what to do, Heath’s car shot out from a small path like a swift shadow, then skidded to a stop at the finish line, with the black and red car following closely behind.

However, after Heath parked the car, he didn’t respond for quite a while.

"Heath—!" Moira Young’s mind went blank, she rushed over without a second thought, opening the other half of Heath’s car door, "Heath!"

"My leg can’t move, have Carter pull me..." Whether from burning or pain, Heath was sweating profusely, his eyes were a bit dazed.

Carter struggled quite a bit but finally managed to pull Heath out of the car, then carried him away from the burning vehicle.

Moira Young couldn’t utter a word, her eyes were bloodshot, stubbornly holding back tears, she was genuinely terrified.

"The car was on fire, why didn’t you stop?" Moira Young looked into his eyes, "Don’t you know that’s dangerous?"

"I’m fine." Heath’s eyes fluttered shut, as if he were about to faint, Moira didn’t dare say anything more.

The ambulance arrived promptly, and Carter and she went to the hospital with him.

After arriving at the hospital, Heath underwent an examination, nothing serious, just smoke inhalation and oxygen deprivation; with some IV drips and plenty of rest, he’d be fine.

Moira Young only felt at ease seeing him resting in the hospital room.

She suddenly recalled that Heath had said in the car that he couldn’t move his leg, but the examination hadn’t shown any issues with his leg...

"Carter, can we talk for a moment? I have some questions." Moira Young vaguely felt it was related to past events.

Carter was now fully sober, he stepped outside, and bluntly asked, "You want to ask about Heath’s leg, right?"

Moira Young’s heart was shaken, she looked up to meet Carter’s sighing expression, her eyes reddened, it indeed had to do with past events.

"Back then, his leg was broken, although it was reattached, it had been fractured, injured, it’s just not the same as a normal leg."

"Don’t be fooled by how he lives so freely, doing whatever he wants, his leg often hurts, goes numb, even his family doesn’t know this, let alone you."

Moira Young bit her lip, a rush of guilt surged in her heart, hearing this kind of news, it was like someone was tightly gripping her heart, giving her no space to breathe.

Heath broke his leg protecting her, now with this aftereffect, how could she not be upset...

Carter couldn’t bear to see Moira Young so remorseful, "Don’t be like this, Heath never wanted you to think that incident was because of you, don’t take it all upon yourself."

Moira Young shook her head, choking up, "I originally thought his leg was healed, but now I know he still has to suffer, and it’s long-term, all because of me, I failed him."

"It’s fine if you tell me, just don’t say this in front of Heath, he likes you so much, he wouldn’t bear to see you blame yourself because of that incident, besides, ultimately it’s not your fault!"

Carter had more to say but hesitated, unsure if he should, after a long pause, he couldn’t help himself.

"Moira, I don’t know if you’re really with him, since Heath usually doesn’t say much truth, mostly jokes, but today I want to say a few words for him."

"Back when you were struggling, and I took you to the hospital, I didn’t have much pocket money, and my family was having some difficulties, so... anyway, having a VIP room and so many people taking care of your daily needs was all paid by Heath, what he did behind the scenes far exceeded what I did."

"Heath was originally doing well in sophomore year, then suddenly transferred to Arden University, even hiding it from me, I only found out the night before school started, I even asked if there had been no incident between you two, whether you would have been together."

Moira Young was stunned, staring at him, quiet as air.

"I found out later, he almost got beaten up by his parents for coming to Arden University, he’s the most rebellious among our friends, no one dared to truly defy their parents, only he did."

"And everything he did was because he couldn’t let go of you."

Carter found it hard to say these things, "At the school opening ceremony, he said he came to Arden University to find the person who stole something from him, he was actually talking about you, you stole his heart and never gave it back."

"All this time, I’ve seen how much he cares about you, I hope you understand."

Moira Young knew Heath liked her, since that big fire, she was willing to let herself get closer to him.

But she hadn’t expected Heath had done so much for her.

"If you two are really together, make sure to treat him well." Carter gave Moira Young a deep look, "I’ll leave this to you, I’m heading back."

Moira Young’s tears almost fell, she rubbed her nose, nodding.

After Carter left, Moira Young entered the hospital room, Heath was still asleep.

She sat by the bed, staring at his sunny and handsome face for a long time, she suddenly recalled the first time Heath spoke to her more than two years ago when Thea Thorne bullied her, and Heath stood up for her.

Back then, she felt a peculiar feeling towards Heath, like a tender flower bloomed in her heart, swaying at the sound of Heath’s voice.

At that time, she didn’t know it was love.

Moira Young’s tears slid from the corner of her eye, a bit warm, but they still couldn’t wake the current bewildered her.

She didn’t know what she felt for Heath now, was it guilt? Gratitude? Or... love?

"Why are you crying?" Heath suddenly woke, first sight of Moira Young lost in thought with tears streaming down, he sat up at once, reaching out to wipe her tears.

Moira Young slightly dodged, wiping them away herself.

Heath took it in stride, naturally drawing back his hand, not feeling awkward at all.

"Heath, why didn’t you tell me about the aftereffects on your leg?" Moira Young’s eyes carried some accusation, her voice choked, she thought she could sound normal, but as soon as she spoke, it was clear she’d been crying.

Heath looked at her with some heartache, pretending not to mind, "It’s nothing, I’m just experiencing old leg aches a few years early!"

"Is this why you’re crying?" 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Moira Young’s tears started falling again, couldn’t be stopped.

"Don’t cry! I was wrong, is that not enough, I was wrong!" Heath frantically tried to wipe her tears, even though he’d seen girls cry before, when Moira cried, his heart just melted.
