Chapter 63: Chapter 63: Necklace

Professor Stone glanced back at the chattering students, signaling them to be quiet.

After Moira Young finished speaking, Professor Stone nodded in satisfaction. Earlier, upon learning that Moira Young was the daughter of Arthur Whitman, he immediately held a bias against her; a daughter of someone like Arthur Whitman must be no good.

But after listening to Moira Young speak, he found her voice gentle and her demeanor gracious, neither arrogant nor pretentious. Suddenly, he felt he shouldn’t judge people with prejudice.

Heath Sterling’s mouth subtly curved into a smile, fleetingly.

After class, Moira Young bit her lower lip, quietly packing her things, hoping to leave before Heath Sterling woke up.

But who would have thought, Heath Sterling grabbed her, forcibly pulling her back into her seat.

The other students in the classroom had left, leaving only the two of them.

Moira Young stared blankly into Heath Sterling’s eyes, her cheeks warming; it had been too long since she’d looked Heath Sterling in the eye, the nervous fluttering in her chest growing faster.

"Moira Young, after all this time, is there really nothing you want to say to me?" Heath Sterling said bluntly, his straightforward nature unwilling to beat around the bush. His resentment and confusion had been buried in his heart for so long it was driving him mad.

Moira Young glanced at her wrist caught by Heath Sterling, her body stiffening, a tingling discomfort coursing through her. She withdrew her arm from his hand.

Knowing her typically shy and introverted nature, Heath Sterling loosened his grip.

"I..." Moira Young tried to remain calm, "Heath, I’m sorry."

Heath Sterling wasn’t looking for an apology; he frowned, hoping for something he wanted to hear. "Is that it?"

Moira Young felt a bit aggrieved; she didn’t know how to make it up to him, suddenly feeling choked up. "If you really hate me so much, why don’t you break my leg too? Let’s call it even."

Heath Sterling never expected Moira Young to say this, becoming annoyed with her, his tone a bit displeased. "Moira Young, you think I hate you just because I broke my leg?"

Moira Young shook her head and then nodded, unsure herself, her mind a jumble.

She didn’t want to think about what happened two years ago, not even the events from a few days before. Ever since the day she attempted suicide, she decided to bury those memories. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

The more Heath Sterling thought about it, the angrier he became. Moira Young showed no awareness of her wrongdoing, yet he broke his leg because of her!

"Why didn’t you come to find me even once?" After holding it in for so long, Heath Sterling finally asked.

Moira Young thought she had misheard, her expression perplexed. "I went to the hospital to find you, but wasn’t it you who said you didn’t want to see me?"

"When did I say such nonsense!"

Moira Young didn’t know what to say; she scrunched her nose, her eyelashes trembling slightly.

Heath Sterling stared at her for a long moment, feeling she wasn’t lying, a hint of relief settling in his heart.

"Why did you give the necklace I gave you to Thea Thorne?" Heath Sterling had too many questions that needed to be addressed face-to-face.

He had skipped half a month of classes to go abroad and personally crafted an adult gift for her, nearly getting beaten to death by his father, only for Moira Young to give it to Thea Thorne.

Heath Sterling distinctly remembered the mocking expression on Thea Thorne’s face when she flaunted the necklace in front of him. He had to promise to accompany her shopping to get it back, and that day coincidentally happened to run into Moira Young and another man.

Moira Young thought about it but didn’t recall receiving a gift from Heath Sterling. He hated her so much; how could he possibly give her a present...

"Heath... are you sure you remember correctly..." she cautiously questioned in return.

"It’s the YME necklace," Heath Sterling had inscribed their names, one on either side, on the clasp of the necklace so it wouldn’t be easily noticed.

’you

and

me’, this was the meaning Heath Sterling assigned to the necklace.

Moira Young suddenly remembered that necklace; she had really liked it back then but had been tricked by Thea Thorne into losing it.

"Wasn’t that from Carter Porter?"

"I asked him to give it to you." When Heath Sterling sent it to her, he was still feeling spiteful, unwilling to give it in person, so he asked Carter Porter to pass it on to her.

Surprise flashed in Moira Young’s eyes; she was about to explain to Heath Sterling but realized the classroom doorway was clogged with people.

She only then realized how conspicuous her presence was with Heath Sterling, far too conspicuous. When she had Julian Sinclair, she disliked drawing attention, let alone now as the daughter of the infamous Arthur Whitman.

Moira Young didn’t want to become the center of attention, especially when she was being judged by everyone.

"Heath, I’m sorry. I have to go." Moira Young grabbed her bag and left, not giving Heath Sterling a chance to stop her.

As she reached the doorway, assuming people would step aside, she didn’t expect them to obstinately block the way.

Their eyes on Moira Young were filled with hostility.

"Excuse me, I need to get through," Moira Young said softly, her tone calm.

"No way." The leading girl crossed her arms over her chest, chewing gum, looking annoyed.

Moira Young didn’t expect such behavior in a top university like Arden, but then thought about how Heath Sterling and Carter Porter were also students there, and wasn’t surprised to see someone like this girl.

"Move aside." Moira Young’s gaze gradually turned cold.

The girl squinted her eyes at Moira Young’s sudden change in demeanor, "You were on the verge of tears in front of Heath Sterling earlier, and now you show this face to us?"

"Go ahead, show Heath Sterling how fierce you look now!" The girl reached out, wanting to grab her.

Moira Young frowned tightly, shifting her body aside, and just then, a chair slid across the floor swiftly, passing by Moira Young and causing people at the door to instinctively step aside, fearing it would hit their legs.

"I’d like to see anyone try to touch her!"

Heath Sterling came over, disdainful eyes on the leading girl, "And just who do you think you are?"

"I’m Cora Linton." The girl paused her gum-chewing mouth, her eyes fixated on Heath Sterling.

"I don’t care who you are; don’t block the way." Heath Sterling gave her an indifferent glance and took Moira Young’s wrist, walking her through the crowd.

Moira Young knew why she had become the target of everyone’s hostility; not because she was Arthur Whitman’s daughter, but because she was too close to Heath Sterling!

Moira Young abruptly withdrew her arm from his grip, calling out to Heath Sterling on a secluded path when there were fewer people around.

"Heath, we should avoid contact from now on," Moira Young looked at him seriously. "I know I wronged you back then and have felt guilty about it to this day. It’s a debt I owe you, so if you propose a suitable way to repay it, I will definitely agree."

"Once it’s settled, I hope we won’t meet again."

Heath Sterling was struck by her grave and serious expression, his deep, handsome eyes reflecting a peculiar glimmer as he stared dazedly at Moira Young’s solemn face for a long time.

Suddenly, he broke into a mischievous smile, "So, you’ll agree to whatever I ask for?"
