Sweet Wife So Charming: CEO: Hold Back Your Heart-Chapter 62: Class
The Sinclair Residence.
The oppressive atmosphere had been hovering over the entire house, apart from the sound of Mrs. Miller cooking, there was no other sound.
Julian Sinclair finally emerged from his room after several days, looking thinner, his eyes dull and filled with weariness.
Since Moira Young wasn’t at home anymore, Julian Sinclair hadn’t smiled once, and even stopped speaking.
In the past, when Moira Young was around, though she wasn’t very talkative, she would definitely latch onto Julian Sinclair and chatter away.
Now, it’s so quiet here that it’s unsettling.
The Whitman Enterprise has always been The Sinclair Group’s top rival, but because of Arthur Whitman’s talented diplomacy, it was never crushed, and the elder members of the Sinclair family stayed clear, fearing they’d inherit the mess upon retirement.
Julian Sinclair managed to topple Arthur Whitman silently, earning a newfound respect from the Sinclair elders.
Adrian Grant had been visiting often these days; each time he seemed eager yet struggled to tell Julian Sinclair about Moira Young’s situation, swallowing his words before they could escape.
Mrs. Miller poured him a cup of coffee, "Young Master Adrian, thanks to your frequent visits, or else it would feel as though no one lived here."
Adrian Grant felt a bit awkward, then smiled at Mrs. Miller, knowing she was blaming Julian Sinclair, "I’ll come by more often."
"Julian Sinclair, why don’t you at least act alive and talk a bit each day? People who don’t know better might think you’re dead." Adrian Grant sipped his coffee, looking at the motionless Julian Sinclair on the sofa.
"Don’t be so hard on yourself, will you?"
Julian Sinclair remained as still as a mannequin.
"I’m talking to you!" Adrian Grant, seeing his silence, set down his cup and approached him.
Julian Sinclair slightly lifted his eyes, glancing briefly.
"I’ve been accompanying you for days now, I haven’t even been near any women, surely you owe me something, right?"
"Moira Young has been going to school as normal, as if nothing happened, why can’t you bring yourself to move on?"
Julian Sinclair suddenly lifted his eyes to look at him, Adrian Grant knew at the mention of Moira Young there’d be a reaction.
Adrian Grant stretched lazily, speaking casually, "Don’t look at me like that, she’s stronger than you think."
"She’s been staying with the Porter family recently. I reckon they’re treating her like a daughter-in-law. Honestly, it wouldn’t be bad if Moira really married into the Porter family—even if it’s not as good as being here with you, at least she’d be well-provided for."
"Shut up." Julian Sinclair finally spoke, it was the first thing he’d said in days.
His voice was low and hoarse, tired, revealing no emotions.
Adrian Grant was somewhat surprised, "Oh, finally our dear Julian has decided to speak!"
Julian Sinclair frowned, his face slowly showing some expression, as he rose from the sofa, grabbed his coat, and prepared to leave.
"Hey, where are you going?" Adrian Grant asked, bewildered.
"Company." Julian Sinclair didn’t look back.
"It’s the middle of the night, why are you going to the company?"
Adrian Grant shook his head and clicked his tongue twice, glancing around the house, muttering to himself, "It’s become so much quieter."
——
School.
University’s first class of the semester, Moira Young’s major is different from her three roommates, so she goes to class alone.
Upon reaching the classroom, she chose a seat in the far corner right by the floor-to-ceiling window, sunlight filtering in, creating a very pleasant atmosphere.
Class wouldn’t start for another ten minutes, she was early.
Moira Young took out her notebook from her bag, a bag she had accidentally left in Carter Porter’s car before, so now it was the only thing from the Sinclair family she had left, apart from the clothes she wore the day of the incident.
Lovingly, she touched the buckle, eyes showing reluctance; if she sold it, her clothes and food for the next four years would be secured.
Moira Young’s mind busily debated, to sell or not to sell?
While lost in thought over this, someone suddenly sat beside her, Moira Young took a quick glance at half of his outfit, thinking he’s probably a very trendy boy.
She figured class was about to start; the classroom full, was why the student sat beside her.
Returning focus, she carefully placed the bag under the table, sitting upright.
Yet Moira Young noticed many empty seats in front, while several girls were secretly peeking at this side, whispering among themselves. Unaware, she turned, finding Heath Sterling sitting next to her.
Heath Sterling had his legs stretched straight under the desk, leaning lazily against the chair, hands in his pockets; Moira Young’s heart skipped, remembering his identical posture in high school.
Nervously, she turned back, focusing her gaze on her book, pretending not to see him.
The teacher took attendance, failing to call Heath Sterling, since he was the class representative and left a good impression, the teacher noticed and asked directly, "Are you Heath Sterling? Your name isn’t on this class list, did you come to the wrong place?"
The entire class followed the teacher’s gaze toward the corner; the warm sunlight streaming through the window cast onto Heath Sterling’s defined, handsome face.
Moira Young felt her cheeks flush, lowering her head even more, fingers gripping her textbook pages, knuckles slightly whitened.
Unconcerned, Heath Sterling yawned, "Teacher, assume I walked into the wrong one!"
"Professor Stone, let Heath Sterling stay in our class! We promise not to look at him, and to pay attention instead!" a fearless girl stood, prompting a burst of laughter.
The teacher had merely wanted to kindly point out the mistake to Heath Sterling, now it seemed the students misunderstood the reluctance, and decided to leave it be.
Heath Sterling appeared sleep-deprived, yawning repeatedly just five minutes into class, finally resting on the desk.
Moira Young was anxious from the start, unable to listen to the lesson properly, even when the teacher called on her to answer a question, she didn’t catch it.
"Is this student absent? Who answered for her during roll call?" Professor Stone scanned the room.
The bold girl earlier gave the teacher a hint, discreetly pointing to the corner, whispering, "Teacher, that’s probably Moira Young."
Unhappy with her phrasing, she added, "The illegitimate child of Whitman’s great phony."
Momentarily stunned, Professor Stone gestured for the girl to stop, then walked to the middle of the classroom, raising his voice.
"Miss Moira Young, could you summarize today’s lesson topic briefly?"
Only then did Moira Young regain her composure; surprised, she blinked, standing to look at the teacher, unsure what was asked of her.
At that moment, Heath Sterling suddenly awoke, stretching uncomfortably, glancing at Professor Stone, confused, "Isn’t it just ideological theory, the basics of this course?"
"I wasn’t asking you, I was asking Moira Young." Professor Stone didn’t pay him much attention.
Heath Sterling shrugged, this time lying back to sleep.
Having studied the topic independently before, Moira Young felt confident, calmly speaking about the ideological theory, expressing herself simply and confidently.
"How can she remember that? Class has barely started..."
"Isn’t this the infamous ’study scam’? Secretly studying alone, undoubtedly memorized beforehand."
Her peers began discussing again, though Moira Young pretended not to notice.
