Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Roadblock

Heath Sterling’s eyes flashed with an unusual light. Following the referee’s signal, he withdrew his gaze from the distance and got into the race car.

The countdown to the race began on the big screen, and the referee was ready to blow the whistle and raise the flag.

Moira Young watched nervously at the track where the black and white race car was, already too tense to breathe. It was her first time watching such an exciting race, and with Heath competing, her expression slowly froze as she unconsciously stood up.

The whole race was brief, but watching the cars speeding by, especially Heath’s car, which almost got flipped over several times, Moira’s worry and tension were evident.

Fortunately, Heath won first place.

Moira exhaled deeply, preparing to sit down, when someone pushed her from behind. She turned around and it was Thea Thorne.

How did she get from the front row to the back row?

"Why are you here?" Thea’s eyes were full of hostility. She glanced at Carter Porter next to her, still immersed in excitement, and immediately became displeased.

"Heath said he would send a few tickets to friends a few days ago, but I didn’t expect the friends he mentioned to bring his ex-girlfriend. How ridiculous!"

Moira did not want to argue with her and ignored her, turning around to call Carter, "Carter, the race is over. Shall we go?"

Carter turned around, finally saw Thea, and he didn’t like her either: "Why are you running over here? Go back to your front row!"

"I’ve already told Aunt Sterling that you’re with Moira Young. When they hear this, they definitely won’t let Heath stay away from you anymore!" Thea looked toward the front row, where Heath’s parents were looking over.

Moira met their eyes and immediately turned around like a startled fawn, facing away from them.

Her heart felt blocked by a jagged stone, cutting through it, unbearably heavy.

"What nonsense are you spouting! How did we end up together out of the blue? You—" Carter got angry and was about to reason with Thea when Moira couldn’t bear the torment any longer and walked out by herself.

She didn’t know which door to exit from, randomly picked one, and upon entering, realized she was lost.

Moira surveyed her surroundings and noticed the quick access sign, just about to proceed when she heard a group of people talking and laughing as they came in.

"Who are you? How did you end up here?" Someone spoke, stopping Moira.

She turned around awkwardly, just about to apologize and say she was lost, but met a pair of eyes she wished to avoid.

Heath was among the group. He initially had a smile on his face, but upon seeing Moira, the raised corners of his mouth suddenly dropped, his expression unfathomable.

"Oh, whose girlfriend is this? Yours? Yours?" The person asked several people, who all shook their heads.

The person laughed and then looked at Heath, "Could it be yours?"

"I just... got lost, sorry, I’ll leave right away." Moira knew Heath must be very happy having won first place; she didn’t want to remind him of past unhappiness because of her.

Seeing that no one recognized Moira, the person’s eyes instantly turned sly, stepping forward to block Moira’s path.

"Hey, I forgot, isn’t this my girlfriend!"

Moira’s nerves suddenly tightened, instinctively trying to dodge, but he blocked her again.

"I don’t know you!" Moira frowned, she secretly glanced at Heath, surprisingly with a sliver of hope that Heath would help her out.

However, Heath had his right hand in his pocket, casually holding the medal with his left, his expression disdainful, even somewhat amused.

The stars in Moira’s eyes extinguished, she found herself truly ridiculous. Heath hated her enough as it was, how could he possibly stand up for her like he once did?

"If you hang out and have a meal with us racers, you can brag about it for days. Come on, don’t be shy!"

Moira watched as the person’s hand nearly reached hers, and she clenched her fist tightly.
