Surprise Marriage to a Billionaire-Chapter 388: At Your Service
Chapter 388: At Your Service
"Thank you! Thank you so much!" Han’s wife exclaimed through her sobs. The courtroom was now empty, except for Han’s wife, their daughter, and Rain, with Henry and Marlon standing nearby.
"Please, that’s enough. We were just doing our job, ensuring justice was served," Henry replied with a calm smile.
"I know, but still... thank you for taking my husband’s case seriously and meticulously reviewing everything. I can finally have some peace, knowing we’ll be reunited when he comes home."
Rain nodded at Han’s wife, offering a reassuring smile. Han’s sentence had been reduced to five years, an outcome Rain worked hard to negotiate with the judge. It was the fairest resolution, considering the circumstances.
After Han’s wife and daughter left, Rain, Henry, and Marlon made their way back to the office.
"How about we celebrate? My treat! Dinner, karaoke, and drinks for everyone!" Henry suggested with enthusiasm.
Rain grinned but shook her head. "I can’t. I already have plans. But you two go ahead and enjoy!" she said before walking ahead of them.
She couldn’t hide her excitement, after all, it was Friday, and Alexander had promised a camper van trip. She even planned to clock out early to prepare for their adventure.
The moment she entered the office, her eyes widened in surprise.
"Megan?!" Rain exclaimed.
"Rain!" Megan cried back, rushing over and wrapping her in a tight hug. "I missed you so much!"
Rain laughed, hugging her back before gently breaking away. "Did you get in here?!"
"Yes, she did," Jane chimed in, walking into the room with a smile. "She’s already introduced herself to me and Matt, Prosecutor Lancaster. She starts on Monday, but I guess she wanted to meet her team ahead of time. And, of course, see you!"
Rain beamed at Megan, thrilled to have her old friend joining their team. "This is amazing! You’re going to love it here," she said, her excitement spilling over.
"I hope so!" Megan replied, her grin matching Rain’s.
"Oh, another beautiful lady for our team! This office is truly blessed," Marlon interrupted with a wide grin, stepping forward and extending his hand toward Megan. "Marlon Jones, at your service!"
"Ah, be careful of that one," Jane quipped, earning a chuckle from Rain.
"What? Stop tarnishing my good name in front of our new member!" Marlon protested dramatically.
Megan shook Marlon’s hand politely, but her attention quickly shifted to Henry.
"It’s nice to finally meet you, Prosecutor Henry Wayne," she said warmly, extending her hand.
For a moment, Rain noticed a certain sparkle in Megan’s eyes as she looked at Henry.
"Megan Davis, at your service," Megan added with a wide smile.
Henry shook her hand briefly but pulled back almost immediately, his expression neutral. "Welcome to the team," he said curtly before turning to address everyone else. "I have more work to do. Excuse me."
"Wait!" Marlon called out. "You promised to treat us to dinner!"
Rain saw an opportunity and chimed in. "That’s right, Henry. And how about this, you bring Megan along so she can get to know everyone better?"
Henry glanced at Megan, then back at Rain and Marlon. After a moment of hesitation, he sighed. "Fine. But don’t expect me to stay too long. Let’s just wrap up our work quickly."
"Great! Dinner and drinks on Prosecutor Wayne, everyone!" Marlon announced with a grin, earning laughter from the group.
Rain nudged Megan playfully. "Looks like you’re getting a warm welcome already."
Megan smiled, glancing shyly at Henry as he headed back to his private office. "I’m looking forward to it," she said softly.
Megan looked at Rain and asked, "Aren’t you coming?"
Rain shook her head, her cheeks turning a soft pink as she replied, "I have a date with my husband."
"Oh, are you leaving now?" Megan asked. Rain nodded with a small smile.
"Don’t worry, Megan. We’ll wrap up things here quickly. We’ll be out exactly at five," Jane chimed in with a grin.
Marlon glanced at the clock and said, "There’s still thirty minutes left. How about you come over here, and I’ll give you a quick briefing on how things work?"
Megan looked at Rain for confirmation, and Rain nodded. "Go ahead. I’ll just grab my bag."
Rain quickly headed to her private office to retrieve her belongings. On her way out, she waved at everyone and bid them farewell with a cheerful, "See you all on Monday!"
As expected, Alexander was already waiting for her in the basement parking lot. The moment she spotted him leaning casually against their campervan with a warm smile spread across his face.
"Right on time," Alexander said with a grin, opening the passenger door for her.
"You know I wouldn’t keep you waiting," she teased as she gave his lips a quick peck before she slipped into the seat.
Alexander chuckled, shut the door, and got into the driver’s seat. "Ready for our adventure?" he asked, his excitement evident.
"More than ready," Rain replied, her eyes twinkling with anticipation. As they hit the road, Rain glanced over at Alexander with a curious smile. "So, where are we heading?"
Alexander shot her a quick grin, keeping his eyes on the road. "To a spot I’m sure you’ll love, a quiet shoreline where we can camp and relax."
Rain nodded, a soft smile playing on her lips as she settled into the passenger seat. The hum of the camper van felt comforting, and she reached for the stereo, selecting one of her favorite pop melodies.
The cheerful tune filled the air, matching her lighthearted mood.
"This feels so nice," she murmured, letting her gaze linger on Alexander. His focused expression, the gentle curve of his lips, and the way the faint sunlight highlighted his sharp features made her heart skip a beat.
"What a handsome driver," she teased softly.
Alexander glanced at her briefly, his eyebrows raising. "Are you admiring me, Mrs. Lancaster?"
"Maybe I am," Rain replied with a cheeky grin. "Who wouldn’t, with a view like this?"
Alexander chuckled, his deep laugh sending a warmth through her chest. "Well, Mrs. Lancaster, you’re not too bad yourself. But keep staring at me like that, and I might get distracted."
Rain laughed and leaned back in her seat, her heart full as the road stretched ahead of them. She was too excited to create more treasured memories with her husband!
