Chapter 1063: Chapter 1062: So It Really Is You

Xu Ke and Suzhou drove nonstop all the way to the countryside.

The environment here was indeed hard to describe in a few words. They looked at the small village surrounded by green trees, exchanged a glance, and smiled slightly. They closed their eyes, took a deep breath, exhaled, and then began to look for Mrs. Su.

"I suddenly think this place isn’t so bad!" Xu Ke turned around to face Suzhou, walking backward.

"Be careful," Suzhou said, grabbing Xu Ke’s shoulder to turn him back around. Then he walked towards an old man with a polite smile: "Excuse me, do you know a Mrs. Su around here?"

"What?" the old man said to Suzhou, his voice slightly hoarse.

This forced Suzhou to take two steps back. He had never heard a voice like this from someone beside him. Xu Ke went up and shouted, "Is there an old lady named Su around here?"

"Oh, over there." The old man pointed towards the east and watched the two young men walk past.

The wooden door was withered, hidden among the numerous plants. Suzhou frowned. Was he sure someone lived in a place like this?

Xu Ke patted his shoulder, encouraging him to go forward with his eyes.

"Since we’ve come this far, we need to see the truth!" Suzhou gritted his teeth and moved forward. No matter what, he had to see his real mother! Gently knocking on the door, he could faintly hear footsteps inside.

Holding his breath, as the footsteps approached, Suzhou’s heart was filled with fear. He feared that his mother had lived here for too long, become assimilated into this place, with blackened teeth and disheveled hair.

With a creak, a woman opened the door. Though there were slight wrinkles at the corners of her eyes, her skin was fair, and she wore an elegant and dignified blue cheongsam. At the sight of Suzhou, her voice trembled slightly: "May I ask who you are looking for?"

"Mrs. Su?" Xu Ke placed a hand on Suzhou’s shoulder and addressed the woman.

The woman nodded gently. Tears filled Suzhou’s eyes—his biological mother was right in front of him, yet she didn’t recognize him!

"You seem quite familiar. Do come in!" Mrs. Su stepped aside, inviting them into the house and started preparing tea. She had a premonition that these two men would change her life.

A quarter of an hour later, Mrs. Su was holding Suzhou’s hand tightly, her eyes filled with tears: "I never expected to see you again!" She stood up, wanting to get something, but was reluctant to let go of Suzhou.

Reunited, the emotions naturally ran high. Xu Ke sensibly went to wander around the countryside. He was very pleased with the environment here. The larks were singing, and the leaves were crowded.

After some time, Mrs. Su calmed down, sitting upright on the sofa, her eyes never leaving Suzhou’s face as she began to narrate the past.

Although many years had passed, Mrs. Su’s heart still had not accepted it peacefully.

"That woman, Xiao Wan, relied on her looks to win the master’s favor temporarily. At the time, I just thought the master was infatuated for a while, so I didn’t interfere much. I never thought that woman would want to get rid of me and take my place." Mrs. Su’s face was full of indignation.

Suzhou clasped his mother’s hand: "You’ve suffered, but I will make that woman pay!"

"Ah, in the end, I lost to her. By the time I realized it, I had already awakened during the process when they were dealing with me." Mrs. Su had a mocking expression, her eyes dim: "If I hadn’t pleaded with that person, how could I have had the chance to survive here?"

The gentle visage of his stepmother flashed across Suzhou’s mind. Although she didn’t treat him particularly well, sometimes she was okay. It was truly unexpected that everything that woman enjoyed should have belonged to his own mother!

He gritted his teeth: "Xiao Wan should have thought of her ending when she started doing that!"

"It’s not easy for us to meet again as mother and son, so let’s not mention past events." Mrs. Su slightly smiled, covering Suzhou’s hand with hers: "Those things are too distressing."

"You’re right." Suzhou suppressed his hatred and talked with his mother about some interesting things that happened recently.

"Hearing that you’re doing well sets my mind at ease."

Suzhou looked around the room’s decor, a chair, a table, a sofa, and two rooms. Just as he came in, there were some flowers and plants in the yard. Tears filled his eyes.

"I’m doing fine. People wish for more peace as they age." Mrs. Su could tell what Suzhou was thinking just by looking at his eyes. She stood up: "It’s time you haven’t eaten anything. I’ll make something you usually can’t get."

"Alright." Suzhou followed his mother and said, "Let me help."

"It’s okay, go find your friend. The environment here isn’t bad." Mrs. Su gently pushed Suzhou towards the door, smiling as she went to the kitchen. How could she let a pampered young master do such things?

"Okay. I’ll come back later." Suzhou thought Xu Ke might have gotten lost wandering around, so they indeed needed to sort it out. Besides, he might only make things messier by helping.

As soon as Suzhou stepped outside, he hadn’t walked for two minutes before he saw Xu Ke.

The man was squatting under the shade of a tree, bored, looking around at the scenery, with a blade of wild grass in his mouth that he somehow grabbed from somewhere.

Upon seeing Suzhou, Xu Ke waved him over.

"Where did you get this wild grass?" Suzhou frowned, taking the grass from Xu Ke’s mouth and throwing it to the ground.

Xu Ke didn’t mind, standing up: "Did you finish talking? When are we going back?"

"It might be a bit later; my mom is making dinner for us."

"Really? I’m so honored."

Suzhou glanced at him: "Just enjoy it secretly!"

The two wandered around outside for a while before heading back. As soon as they entered the yard, the smell of food reached their noses. Stepping inside, they saw a table full of dishes, and their eyes changed.

"I’m so hungry. Auntie is really a great cook!" Xu Ke quickly sat by the table, inhaling the aroma, his eyes filled with delight.

After dinner, Suzhou looked at his mother: "Will you come back with me?"

Mrs. Su pondered for a moment and nodded under Suzhou’s expectant gaze.

The three of them headed home directly, barely stopping, and finally arrived when it was dark.

As Suzhou helped his mother out of the car, he saw his father about to leave.

A few pairs of eyes met, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still. The surrounding noise vanished.

"You," Su’s father stepped forward two steps, disbelief in his eyes: "You’re still alive?"

Xiao Wan gritted her teeth, her eyes vicious, as she quickly went to support Su’s father with a gentle face: "Maybe it’s a mistake, such a long time ago, honey." Saying this, she glanced at Mrs. Su.

The woman’s beauty made Mrs. Su feel uncomfortable. The marks of life on her were so deep. Even though she was more particular about maintenance than most people, the living conditions here couldn’t compare.

Suzhou held his mother’s hand, secretly encouraging her: "Father doesn’t care about those things; he’s been thinking about you all these years."

"Does he really not care?" Mrs. Su doubted, looking at Xiao Wan with a slightly dim expression.

"Honey, this woman might just bear a slight resemblance to sister. How could sister, who is so gentle and graceful, possibly look like this?"

Looking at that face, Su’s father felt guilty, and with one push, he pushed Xiao Wan away: "It truly is you."
