Chapter 670: A Foe or Friend [1]
The silence shattered as Jack and Hendrix exploded into motion.
"Tch, you’re fast!" Jack swung his lightning odachi, aiming for Hendrix’s neck.
But Hendrix was gone.
Jack’s eyes widened, barely catching the afterimage as Hendrix appeared behind him, delivering a swift kick to his side.
Jack flew several meters, rolling across the cracked ground before springing to his feet. "Oi, you teleporting freak! Stand still, will ya?"
Hendrix’s calm voice echoed. "Why should I? This is far more fun."
Before Jack could react, three more Hendrix figures appeared, each moving in a blur. They slashed at him from different angles, forcing him to parry frantically.
"Clones?!" Jack gritted his teeth as he struggled to block the relentless attacks. "Tch, where’s the real one?"
"Who knows? Maybe I’m all of them. Or maybe none." Hendrix’s voice came from all directions, playful yet sharp.
Jack’s odachi clashed against one clone, dispelling it with a burst of smoke, but another slashed at his back.
"Damn it!" He cursed, spinning to counter. He landed a glancing blow, but it passed through another fake.
Meanwhile, Akira faced Kira, her radiant sword tightly gripped.
Kira still hadn’t unsheathed her greatsword. She wielded it as a blunt weapon, the cloth wrapping still intact. Even so, each swing from her pushed Akira back several steps.
BOOM!
The shockwaves from their clashes obliterated nearby buildings. Debris and dust flew with every exchange.
Akira panted, her arms trembling slightly. ’Even with her weapon wrapped, she’s this strong?’
Kira’s voice broke her thoughts. "Is that all? Valkyrie blood should burn brighter than this."
Akira lunged forward, her swords flashing in a crisscross pattern.
"Don’t underestimate me!" she shouted.
Kira parried with a single, heavy swing, sending her sliding across the stone street. "I’m not underestimating you. You’re simply too weak for me."
Akira gritted her teeth, her eyes blazing with anger as she charged again, their swords colliding in a violent dance.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
Jack continued to battle Hendrix’s clones. He sliced one apart, only for another to appear behind him.
"You’re too slow," Hendrix whispered, his blade slashing Jack’s side.
"Argh!" Jack winced, barely managing to step away before the next attack.
A deep frown appeared on his face, lightning crackling around him as he wiped blood from his mouth. "Tch, this guy’s so damn annoying."
[Switch with me! Let me fight him!] a voice echoed in his head.
"I’m not done yet. I still have enough fight left in me!" Jack shouted out loud.
"You talk too much." Hendrix appeared right in front of him, his blade thrusting forward.
Jack twisted his body, dodging narrowly and countering with a slash. "I talk when I’m nervous. You got a problem with that?"
"No. I like watching you struggle." Hendrix smirked.
Another clone appeared, followed by another. Jack desperately swung at all of them, trying to catch the real one.
"What’s the matter? Can’t tell which one is me?"
"Tch, come on, come on, come on!"
His lightning surged, but his breathing grew heavier. The clones were chipping away at him.
On the other side, Akira and Kira’s battle intensified.
Kira’s movements were precise, almost lazy. Yet Akira could feel the overwhelming weight behind each strike.
Akira grunted as her swords locked against Kira’s greatsword. She pushed with all her strength, but Kira’s calm gaze never wavered.
"You’re holding back," Kira noted. "How dull."
"I’m not holding back!" Akira roared, forcing her back slightly.
"Prove it then." The red-skinned beauty smirked.
Their swords clashed again, sending shockwaves through the air. More buildings collapsed under the force of their battle.
[We need to swap. You’re clearly losing this fight. Stop being stubborn!]
"No!" Jack shouted between breaths.
"Y-you don’t tell me all this beating made you mad?" Hendrix taunted as another clone kicked Jack in the chest, knocking him backward.
"Argh! Damn it!" Jack coughed, his body covered in cuts and bruises. Below him, a pool of blood began to spread.
"You fought well," Hendrix appeared again, this time seemingly the real one. "But this is your limit."
"Tch, my limit? You’re full of yourself."
"Am I?" Hendrix blurred again, appearing behind him and pressing his blade against Jack’s neck.
"Any last words?"
"Tsk, swap!" Jack said weakly, and suddenly the aura around him changed. Hendrix took a step back as it felt like a new person had taken his opponent’s place.
Suddenly, Jack spoke with a wide grin on his face. "Yeah. I talk too much. It’s normal when you have countless voices talking in your head."
"Y-your voice." Hendrix frowned when he noticed the slightly deeper, crazier tone.
But before he could fully comprehend it—
BOOM!
A powerful aura exploded from Jack’s body in all directions, forcing Hendrix to leap back.
Without wasting a moment, Jack charged at him with a wide, toothy grin, slashing viciously.
"Come on, pretty boy, fight me!" He laughed like a maniac.
"Interesting." Hendrix’s eyes flashed as he observed the strange anomaly.
On the other side, Akira roared as she launched a furious assault. Her swords moved faster, sharper, each strike carrying her full strength.
Kira raised an eyebrow, finally showing mild interest. "Good. Now you’re starting to look like a Valkyrie."
Their blades collided with greater ferocity, creating violent winds that tore through the nearby structures.
BOOM! BOOM!
Akira spun, aiming for Kira’s legs, but Kira blocked it with the flat of her wrapped blade.
But her opponent countered with a heavy overhead swing.
Akira crossed her swords to block but was sent crashing into a nearby wall.
"Urgh!" The Valkyrie Princess groaned, slowly getting up.
Their battle raged on, neither willing to yield.
At this present moment, Jack fought like a wild beast, not even bothering to dodge strikes from his opponents. The clones danced around him, relentlessly attacking, but he didn’t mind.
’The real one! I just need to get the real one!’ His thoughts raced as his eyes went bloodshot.
"How long can you last, I wonder?" Hendrix taunted.
"Long enough to annoy you!" Jack replied, his lightning odachi sparking wildly.
"You’re already doin—"
Suddenly, a loud rumbling sound filled the air.
All the demons, Hendrix, Jack, Akira, and Kira paused, their attention shifting to the sky.
Hovering above them were series of massive golden carriages, its surface lined with gleaming cannons.
The demons murmured in confusion, their eyes wide as they pointed at the sky.
"What is that?"
"Is that... human-made?"
"Why is it so high? Who’s on it?"
Jack, panting heavily, looked up with surprise. "What now?"
Standing atop the leading carriage, his arms crossed, was a figure surrounded by swirling water blades.
The man’s piercing gaze swept over the battlefield as the water blades spun rapidly around his arms.
The entire battlefield fell silent, all eyes locked on the newcomer.
"It seems we’ve finally arrived at the western region." Prince Adrian’s calm voice echoed as his gaze swept over the ongoing fights. "And it seems we have a situation here."
