Chapter 669: Counter Invasion: The Demon Lord of the First Floor Appears
Nox and Jared stepped through the shimmering portal and were instantly engulfed by a strange sensation—like walking through thick water. When they emerged on the other side, they were greeted by a dark, oppressive sky with two red moons hanging low.
The air was dry, but the pressure was heavy, and they could hear faint growls echoing from the distance.
Nox took one glance around.
"So this is the demon realm, huh?"
"It’s worse than I imagined." Jack frowned.
The place they appeared in was a massive open plain littered with black stone pillars, cracked ground, and withered trees.
They were standing atop one of the giant black pillars, and from their vantage point, they could clearly see lower demons wandering about their day, still unaware of their presence.
"What do we do now?" Jack asked.
A small smirk appeared on Nox’s face. "We slaughter them, just as they’re doing with us."
As he said this, he activated his demonic wings. Instantly, a pair of large black wings appeared on his back.
Nox flew towards the area heavily populated with demons. He outstretched his hands as lightning crackled at his fingertips, slowly building up until it grew into the size of a mini sun.
By now, the demons had noticed the fiercely shining blue object above them, and they all snapped their heads upward to look at it.
It was the last thing the demons in that area saw as the giant ball of lightning smashed into their midst.
BOOM!
The explosion shook the entire plain, a surge of lightning bursting outwards, vaporizing everything caught in its radius.
The lower demons didn’t even have time to scream as their bodies were disintegrated instantly.
Chunks of stone and black ash rained down.
The destruction reflected in Nox’s eyes, and with countless kill notifications ringing in his head, a look of satisfaction appeared on his face.
Among the demons, there were probably kids as well, but who cares? These kids would definitely grow up to join the demonic army and attack them. It was better to get rid of the problem now while it was still early.
Right at that moment, Nox sensed a presence behind him. He didn’t need to turn to tell that it was Jared.
The green-haired boy was standing on a thick vine that hovered in the air while its roots clung tightly to the previous black pillar they were standing on.
The vine slowly lowered him to the ground, his eyes locking onto a group of demons who had somehow survived the blast.
As soon as he got close to the ground, he jumped off the thick vine.
At the same time, more vines erupted out, lashing at the few surviving demons who had been flung by the blast.
He grabbed one by the neck and slammed it repeatedly into the ground until it stopped moving.
"Die, disgusting creature!" Jared shouted as he kicked a twitching demon corpse away.
Nox descended calmly, folding his black wings behind him.
"Keep going," he said, his eyes cold. "The more noise we make, the sooner the stronger ones will show up."
But then a frown appeared on his face when he realized he didn’t know much about demons.
He strongly suspected this was only the entrance to the empire since the demons here were relatively weak and easy to deal with, plus most of them were monstrosities.
Suddenly, he remembered the system’s ask function he had ignored for a long time and decided to use it.
"System, how does this place work?"
"The demon empire is structured like a tower," the system’s mechanical voice echoed in Nox’s mind. "It is divided floor by floor. You are currently on the lowest floor, where the weakest of demonkind reside. As you ascend, each floor is ruled by a Demon Lord, significantly stronger than the last."
The system continued, "The higher you go, the stronger the demons become. Each Demon Lord governs their floor with absolute authority, commanding legions and subordinates. At the very top floor of the demon empire dwells the Demon Emperor—one of the most powerful existences in this world."
Nox’s eyes narrowed slightly. "So it’s like a vertical kingdom..."
"Correct," the system confirmed. "You will need to locate the teleportation circle to unlock the pathway to the next floor."
"Additionally, be warned: the Demon Emperor is not stationary. Reports suggest he descends to lower floors on occasion to oversee his armies or execute those who fail him."
"System, what’s my chance of defeating the Demon Emperor, even with all my ultimate tier skills?" freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
"Zero." The system’s reply was fast, sharp, and brutal. "At your current level, you’ll be crushed within minutes."
Nox sucked in a deep breath. ’Still not strong enough, huh.’
He proceeded to explain the situation to Jared beside him.
"So we kill everyone on this floor, find the teleportation circle, and move to the next floor." Jared cracked his neck. "Sounds like a plan."
He paused, frowning. "But what will happen if the Demon Emperor shows up? According to you, he’s very powerful, and not even you can defeat him."
"Yes, it’s true that I can’t defeat him, but I’m still confident we can get away from him," Nox replied confidently.
"So, attack the small fries, run when the big guy shows up?"
Nox nodded. Shameless, but it was the only way. He was getting stronger at a rapid pace. He was certain that in the near future, he would acquire more skills and pets strong enough to rival the demonic Emperor, but as of this moment, hit-and-run tactics were their best bet.
"Yes, let’s go!" Nox said, extending his hand. A sphere of lightning began to form again. "Let’s see how many we can wipe out before the next big fish shows up."
Without waiting, he shot forward, diving straight into another large demon settlement.
The two tore through the demon horde, the sounds of battle echoing across the wide plains.
The more they killed, the more demons came.
And finally, after an hour, they found what they were looking for.
In the distance, a towering figure was approaching—its body covered in black armor, massive horns curving backward, and a cruel blade dragging behind it, screeching as it scraped the stone.
Above the head of the demon was a red string of text.
