Chapter 24: Heading to the Alliance headquarters

Led by Nerom and Mira, Dawn silently floated behind them without speaking.

"This place seems to be getting darker each passing day," Dawn thought with narrowed eyes as he gazed at the familiar cave walls of the Nether Wraiths colony.

As they moved forward, the darkness around them seemed to come to life as it slowly contorted and wrapped around their figures like a slithering snake.

"This place is getting stranger day by day. I am afraid if we don't get out of this place fast, we might be trapped here forever," Nerom commented, his voice filled with worry. Others might not know it, but he was extremely clear about the situation; the fact that the Nether Wraith king didn't retaliate after their failed attack made his blood run cold.

The only reason the fiercely arrogant beast would let this slide was that he was busy with even more important things.

Dawn was unaware of Nerom's thoughts, and even if he knew, there wasn't anything that he could do about it anyway.

However, his gaze would occasionally wander to the figure of the woman walking at the front.

Mira Silverfire's tantalizing figure swayed with every step that she took. Even though he wanted to resist the urge to look, his gaze would subconsciously wander around her figure before he would forcefully turn his gaze away.

Suddenly she stopped and turned her head; their eyes met and Dawn looked away quickly.

Dawn felt his face heat up, not expecting their gazes to meet. He coughed and tried to keep his cool, immediately coming up with excuses to avoid the embarrassing situation. "I wanted to ask how long we will have to keep walking for?"

He had the urge to slap himself for acting like a horny teenager, but it was something that he couldn't resist.

Damn! Things like this should never happen again! Dawn swore in his heart.

Nerom also stopped after hearing Dawn's question. He seemed to have caught what had transpired after taking a look at both of their faces. He ignored the situation and calmly answered, "We are almost there, just five minutes."

Mira Silverfire also turned her gaze away while muttering something under her breath that no one seemed to hear, "Tch! So he is also one of these creeps. I thought he was someone special."

Ever since she was young, she had felt numerous such people fawning over her and bringing gifts to please her. At first, she thought people treated her this way because she was special, but after one fateful incident, she realized, "All of them were after my body!"

Since then, she has hated such people who had nothing but lust in their eyes.

Even though Mira Silverfire tried to act natural and acted as if she hadn't noticed Dawn's gaze wandering around, her beautiful big eyes turned somewhat cold.

Dawn also felt the subtle change in her body language.

"I will make up for this mistake in the future," Dawn decided, he focused ahead; ignoring the coldness in her gaze.

Time passed, and after this short incident, the trio walked in silence with Dawn trailing behind them like a luminous lightbulb in the darkness, illuminating their path.

After walking silently for fifteen minutes and taking numerous twists and turns, the trio came to a sudden stop.

Dawn also surveyed the place with a look of curiosity on his face. The place was different; there was an almost non-existent layer of darkness covering this place, which was surprising. Most of the Nether colony was like a cold and dark, freezing glacier while this was like a warm and inviting desert.

After being in the Nether colony for more than a year, he never knew such a place existed.

"Nether Wraiths are ghostly creatures and most of the time like to avoid places which are slightly brighter..." Nerom noticed Dawn's confusion and patiently explained.

Mira continued to remain silent, not bothering to speak at all.

Dawn didn't mind her reaction as he was in the wrong. He silently nodded at Nerom from time to time.

"We just need to wait a few minutes. Somebody will come to pick us up."

As soon as Nerom had said these words, the ground some distance away split open and a figure clad in tattered leather armor emerged.

"Greetings, Supervisor Nerom and Lady Mira."

Nerom and Mira wordlessly nodded, after which the former turned to Dawn and said, "Follow me and stay close. Only then can you enter the headquarters of the Unity Awakeners Alliance."

The figure in leather armor was surprised by Nerom and immediately looked at Dawn's figure with surprise, wondering what was so special about this fellow for Supervisor Nerom, who was known for his strictness, to treat so kindly.

"Could he be..." suddenly he remembered a rumor making rounds in the organization.

However, before he could finish his thought, he heard Nerom's commanding voice, "Quickly lead the way."

"Yes sir." The man immediately saluted and muttered something under his breath. Immediately, the ground vibrated and split open, revealing a passage that seemed to lead downwards.

Nerom and Mira took the lead and hurriedly walked inside.

Dawn hesitated for a moment, then after shaking his head, he also ventured deep down.

Anyway, in any case of accidents, he could safely escape with the help of his suit; after all, no Silver rank Warrior could hurt him.

Dawn took a deep breath and tried to look around him; however, he was immediately forced to close his eyes.

So bright!

He felt as if the night had suddenly turned into day; the sudden change caused his eyes to take time to adjust.

The surroundings were brightly lit, and people dressed in strange uniforms moved to and fro while chatting with each other.

After his eyes had adjusted to the brightness, Dawn was able to look at the place.

He was in a brightly lit large hall that seemed to resemble a factory from his previous world.

Noises of hammering and sounds of workers constantly shouting and moving could be heard in the distance.

The underground base was a hive of activity. Rows of forge-like stations lined the hall, where smiths hammered away at glowing metals. Engineers hunched over blueprints, their uniforms marked with the Alliance's insignia—a crossed sword and quill. The air was filled with the scent of molten steel and the sharp bite of alchemical concoctions.
