Chapter 49: Fevered Kisses, Stolen Hearts

Rivana’s breath hitched, his husky voice sending tingles through her body. Though his gaze was dark and filled with hunger, there was a hint of uncertainty. It was as if he was wondering if she was ready and wouldn’t regret it later, unlike him.

She realized how he had never crossed the line whenever he teased her. Memories flashed in her mind, each one showing how he retracted just as he was about to completely lose control. It ignited a fire in her heart and, at the same time, warmed it. He was asking for her consent, and she had no clue what good deed she had done to stumble upon this one heck of a man.

Instead of replying with words, Rivana leaned closer and captured his lips.

Azrael’s eyes subtly widened, his grip on her waist tightening as her lips pressed softly against his. Rivana pulled back slightly, her eyes searching his, wondering if he had found the answers to all his doubts.

Their gazes locked in a fiery exchange. Without a word, Azrael titled her nape and crashed his lips onto hers.

He kissed her desperately—raw and rough—as if he had been waiting for this moment for centuries. Rivana held back a moan as he sucked on her lips, nibbled, and bit them gently. Her hands reached into his hair, tangling in the soft strands as she kissed him back with the same intensity.

Azrael pulled back slightly, giving her some room to breathe. Rivana’s chest rose and fell rapidly, matching his own. His gaze softened as he cupped her cheek and leaned in to capture her lips again, this time in a slow and sweet kiss.

Tilting her head slightly, he deepened the kiss, their lips fitting perfectly. His other hand trailed over her body, slipping under her jacket to grip her waist tightly. In response, Rivana turned around and straddled him, her knees sinking into the bed on either side of his thighs.

A groan escaped Azrael’s lips as her body pressed down on his thighs, sending a wave of heat coursing through him. His hands instinctively gripped her lower waist, pulling her even closer. He kissed her fervently, drowning Rivana in a sensation she had never experienced before.

A gasp escaped her mouth when she felt something poking between her legs. Azrael took the opportunity to slip his tongue into her mouth, the heat from it pooling low in her belly.

Their tongues intertwined in a heated dance, each vying for dominance. They kissed as if the world around them had ceased to exist, their eyes closed, and their hands exploring each other with a blend of curiosity and desire.

When Rivana finally tapped on his chest lightly, begging for a moment to breathe, Azrael pulled back. Both of them were panting, their breaths mingling as they stared at each other.

A deep blush crept over Rivana’s cheeks, her entire body still hot and yearning for more. Unable to bear his intense gaze, she lowered her head and buried it in his chest. A sheepish smile spread across her lips as she hugged him tightly.

Azrael let out a deep breath and hugged her back, his arms wrapped securely around her. He could feel her heart racing against his chest, and she could hear his heartbeat—fast and unsteady, mirroring her own.

Though it wasn’t Rivana’s first kiss, it felt like one. Azrael had this strange magic, making her feel things no one else ever had, leaving her yearning for more. The mere thought of what else he could make her feel gave her butterflies.

"I like this kind of recharging session," Rivana boldly declared, her voice shaky but teasing.

Azrael chuckled softly, patting her head. "Then I’ll do it daily."

Her blush deepened, and her smile grew wider as they sat there, content in each other’s arms. But the peaceful moment was interrupted by a loud grumble from Rivana’s stomach. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"Shit," Rivana muttered under her breath, her embarrassment peaking. Her stomach always had a knack for ruining serious moments.

Azrael softly chuckled and murmured, "Looks like someone else needs a recharge too."

Rivana buried her face in his chest, groaning softly. She wasn’t bold enough to face him now.

"What do you want to eat?" Azrael asked, his tone light and teasing.

Rivana slowly looked up at him, her eyes sparkling when she realized he planned to cook for her again. "Anything you make," she replied, grinning.

Azrael’s smile widened, and he nodded in response. "I’ll see what we have in the kitchen."

Rivana climbed off his lap, and Azrael got up. Leaning down, he pressed a quick kiss on her lips, catching her off guard. Pinching her flushed cheek, he left the room with a small smile.

Rivana watched him leave and close the door behind him. Slumping back onto the bed, she stared at the ceiling in a daze. Her fingers brushed over her lips as the memory replayed vividly in her mind.

Turning onto her side, Rivana squealed softly, kicking her legs in the air. But a dread also filled her heart. This was exactly what had scared her—these moments that brought them so close. If she ever had to leave, it would devastate him again.

She rose and walked to the dressing table. Opening the lower drawer, she searched through her accessories before finding the pocket watch. Taking a deep breath, Rivana opened it, the time shattering her heart into pieces.

[1 Year 358 days]

The number daunted her, ruining her mood instantly. It seemed as though it was warning her to not have false hopes, to not create memories that might turn painful once she left this word. Suddenly, two years didn’t feel like enough timespan unlike earlier when all she had in mind was Revenge. And for the first time, Rivana wished she could somehow escape her predestined fate, to not die that easily not just for herself but for Azrael as well.

Sighing out loud, Rivana placed the pocket watch back in the drawer. She wasn’t ready to leave Azrael this soon, not without trying to fight against her fate. And to do it, she needed to go into those almost realistic dreams again and meet her son, Alan.
