Chapter 35: Confession Amidst Chaos

NO! Azrael!" Rivana screamed, panic surging through her veins as she patted Azrael’s cheeks, trying to wake him up. Her hands were stained with his blood from the gunshot, soaking his entire back red. She kept patting his cheeks, tears forming in the corners of her eyes.

Men wearing all black rushed inside at the sound of someone screaming near the rink. They had all been waiting outside for orders since their master wanted privacy, but who knew the staff hadn’t been thoroughly checked.

The head of the team aimed right at the man’s wrist. The bullet passed through his flesh, causing the gun to fall from his hand. The assailant looked around, feeling the men closing in, and decided to run, but bullets fired in his way one by one. The team smartly targeted his legs, one bullet through each, so he could fall down without dying.

Rivana’s panic heightened as the gunshots increased around her. She focused back on Azrael, desperately trying to wake him up. "Azrael! Wake up."

Tears streamed down her cheeks, her heart clenching tightly as his body turned cold. No, she couldn’t lose him too! Patting his cheeks, she cried out and suddenly heard him cough lightly.

"Azrael..." Rivana held him tightly, her teary eyes focusing on his. When he looked at her, his vision blurry, she scolded, "Are you crazy? Why did you jump in?"

"Why did you take a bullet for Viktor that day?" he questioned her instead, his voice barely above a whisper.

"Because I was a fool. An idiot who loved him more than her own life!" Rivana grumbled back, her words coming between her cries.

Azrael didn’t reply but smiled, making her even angrier. Was he happy that he was dying for her? But then she realized he had given her an answer through herself.

Before Rivana could react further, the team rushed in and took Azrael under their care. Rivana watched as Azrael got quickly carried away by his team members. A man approached her, "Please hold onto me, madam."

Rivana nodded, and the four men led her out of the rink, forming a barrier around her. Quickly taking off her skates, she rushed behind Azrael, who was swiftly put in the ambulance.

"I will go with him," Rivana said, entering the ambulance. She looked at the man and ordered, "Someone inform Mr. Dynar immediately."

The man who had helped her out of the rink earlier nodded. Gesturing to his strongest junior to join her, he went to make the calls. Whoever was behind this, would be dead for sure, and most importantly, the owner of this Skateland, he thought, glaring at the big board.

At Crestview Hospital, Rivana held onto Azrael’s hand tightly as he was pushed toward the operating theater (OT). "Please wait here," the attending doctor murmured, stopping her in front of the door. Rivana slowly let go of Azrael’s hand, her tears flowing freely as the team pushed him inside and the OT door closed.

It was all because of her! She should have been more careful! She should have acted quickly so he didn’t have to put himself in danger.

Rivana blamed herself, feeling dizzy. Her emotions were a whirlwind of pain, guilt, and fear. Her chest was tight, and she couldn’t breathe properly. The weight of the situation pressed down on her, making it hard to stay conscious.

Dawn, who was informed, was the first one to rush in. The junior walked over to him and briefed him on Azrael. His team had already informed him what happened at the Skateland, and he heaved a small sigh. It was nothing new for his boss whose life was always in danger, but it must have shocked their madam. He thought, looking at the petite woman who was staring at the OT screen.

"Madam," Dawn said, walking closer. He slightly patted her shoulder so she could come out of her daze. As Rivana turned around, he murmured, "You should take a seat."

Rivana nodded and walked over to the chairs arranged on either side of the corridor. She sat down, her mind racing with worry. Soon, the entire area was covered with Dynar men, making sure there were no more blunders like earlier at the Skateland.

After an hour, Ezekiel rushed in with Callum following closely behind. Their expressions were grim, worried more about Rivana than the man who had taken the bullet for her.

Ezekiel stopped seeing Rivana on the chair, who stood up at his arrival. His heart clenched seeing her in such a miserable condition. Her dress was stained with blood, her face pale and streaked with tears. His eyes traveled down and fixed on her barefoot. Did she run all the way here like this? It was saddening and perhaps the reason why Azrael had always hesitated to even meet her.

"Get her a pair of slippers and a thick jacket," Ezekiel ordered, and Dawn quickly rushed to get the stuff.

With a sigh, he walked closer, and Rivana lowered her head in shame.

"I... I am sorry," Rivana murmured, guessing he must be upset that his nephew got hurt because of her.

During college, when Viktor was attacked, it was later revealed that the man who attacked him was someone obsessed with her and wanted to kill him. Though she had taken that bullet and tried to save him, his entire family still blamed her. Even Aldona was upset that her precious grandson got attacked because of her. And Ezekiel must be too, considering how Azrael indeed got hurt because of her today.

"I... I should have—"

"Shhh." Ezekiel patted her arm, stopping her midway. "It wasn’t your fault," he added, his words shocking Rivana. When she looked up at him, he continued, "It was his decision to step in, so don’t blame yourself."

Rivana couldn’t hold back the tears that freely trickled down her cheeks.

"You must have been scared," Ezekiel murmured and hesitantly pulled Rivana closer in a hug. Patting her head, he sighed as Rivana sobbed in his arms.

"And don’t worry about that brat." Breaking the hug, Ezekiel wiped away her tears and continued, "It will just be a minor injury. He had sworn to send me to hell first, and I am very sure he will keep that promise."

Rivana nodded, breaking into a small smile. His embrace was warm and comforting, and it calmed her. Callum sighed softly, breaking into a small smile. Just then, Dawn returned with a pair of slippers and a jacket.

Callum took the slippers and placed them in front of her. Passing the jacket, he said, "Wear this. He will definitely send all of us to hell if he sees his wife in this state."

Rivana smiled and took the jacket. Slipping into the slippers and wearing the thick jacket, she sat on the chair again. Ezekiel took a seat beside her, and all of them waited for the surgery to be done quickly.

After a few frustrating hours, the screen finally showed that the surgery was complete. Everyone hurried toward the door, and the doctor walked outside. Taking off his head cap, he looked at them, his expression grave. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

"Is he alright?" Rivana was the first to question, her heart beating erratically.

The doctor sighed and murmured, "We have taken out the bullet. But..."
