Starting With SSS-rank: I Get A New Skill Every Livestream-Chapter 74: One of a kind
Layena wanted to thank Kyle for what he had done.
She had planned to approach him in the morning, but he was busy on a call, so she chose not to interrupt.
Inside the bus, many people invited her to sit with them, but among all of them, Kyle seemed like the most tolerable option.
He was the kind of person who didn’t seem to care about the world around him. People talked about him constantly, not just because he had been dating Amanda until recently, but also because of his family.
And yet, the way he stood alone in a crowd, completely unaffected by what others said or how they ignored him, made him the easiest person to be around.
In the past, she didn’t quite notice him but after yesterday, she realised that there was something about him other than being a part of the Aatortia family.
As if proving her observation right, the moment she sat down, he didn’t ask her anything and simply put on his earphones.
Truly, one of a kind.
Still, she wanted to thank him, so she began thinking of how to start a conversation.
Leaning back in her seat, she suddenly felt a sharp gaze on her.
Tilting her head slightly, she looked toward the front and found a pair of dark blue eyes fixed on her.
It was Amanda.
No... not glaring. Just staring, expressionless, as if Layena had committed something unforgivable.
Didn’t they break up or something then why was she making such a face? Seriously, a special challenged person.
Shaking her head, Layena spoke, "You don’t mind me sitting here, do you?"
Fortunately, his music wasn’t loud enough to block her out.
Kyle removed his right earbud. "No, it’s fine."
Before he could put it back in, Layena quickly added, "And... thanks for yesterday. You really helped me out."
Honestly, if he hadn’t given her first aid at the mall, she would have ended up creating a scene, walking around in a bloodstained shirt, or worse, calling someone from the base, something she hated doing for such trivial matters.
Kyle replied softly, "It’s nothing. Don’t worry about it." Then he slipped the earbud back in and resumed his music.
He usually preferred slow lo-fi tracks, especially during journeys like this. It helped calm his mind.
Layena didn’t push the conversation further, not wanting to come off as annoying. She wasn’t much of a talker herself, so in a way, they suited each other.
Closing her eyes, she leaned back and decided to rest.
Around them, the other students busied themselves chatting or planning what they would do during the trip.
Naturally, a few followed Layena’s lead and shut their eyes as well. Some because of motion sickness, others simply because they weren’t used to waking up this early.
Meanwhile, Kyle was having a far more dangerous conversation with the system.
’Are you serious?’
[Indeed, host. If even someone without ill intention approaches you and they possess Absence, your Golden Limb would react. So be careful to not draw closer to the red zone.]
’Hmm... understood.’
The system itself seemed concerned that Kyle might get caught up in whatever trouble was likely to unfold during this trip.
He glanced at the person sitting beside him. From what he had heard from Veronica, Layena was one of the most sincere, capable, and responsible cadets in the PSC.
She had excelled in every field a trainee was tested in and had never once complained about the unfair treatment she faced during enlistment.
Which meant one thing. Because of how committed she was to her duty, Kyle needed to keep his distance from her.
"Hey, you."
Someone suddenly stepped in front of them and called out. The voice wasn’t directed at Kyle.
Layena slowly opened her eyes and found Amanda standing there.
Amanda crossed her arms. "Go sit with your friends...if you have any that is."
Layena clicked her tongue, then shifted slightly to the left, turning toward Kyle as she closed her eyes again, looking even more comfortable now.
Amanda clenched her fist, her entire presence warning others to keep their distance.
Still, Hannah approached her and said, "Hey, don’t create a scene here. Let’s just sit somewhere else."
Kyle also glanced at her, silently pleading with his eyes not to start anything. If things escalated here, it would only cause trouble.
Amanda clicked her tongue. She had wanted to sit beside Kyle, to enjoy this journey with him. And now, this girl had taken that seat from her. Damn it.
Just then, Hannah added, "We’ll be stopping in two hours. You can switch seats then if you want."
Amanda paused and looked at her. Right, the professor had mentioned a break for those who might get motion sickness.
But still... these two hours felt too long.
For a brief moment, she really felt like using those large windows to throw someone out. But since Kyle had asked her so quietly, even if it was just with his gaze, she held herself back.
Her eyes shifted to the seat next to theirs, where a boy was sitting, staring at her wide-eyed.
"You’re Kory, right? Mind sitting somewhere else?"
Caught off guard, the boy’s face flushed red as he quickly stood up and gave up his seat.
Hannah sighed, watching how easily Amanda could fluster someone. Maybe that was the charm of being beautiful. Not that she would know.
Soon, Hannah and Amanda took the seats adjacent to Kyle and Layena.
From the side, Ethan watched everything and remained silent. Though, inside his head, he has already murdered Kyle seven times in the most brutal way.
Kyle, ignorant about what was going through others’ heads, sighed and leaned back in his seat before closing his eyes.
He didn’t have a great sleep last night too so, since he had time, he would rather rest as much as he could.
