Starting With an SSS-Rank Swordsmanship Talent-Chapter 643: Capturing the Spies
"He’s here." Renante tapped the table, his eyes hovering over the entrance of the restaurant where a middle-aged man had just entered.
Hearing his voice, Wolf followed his gaze. He had memorized the portraits of their targets and he confirmed that it was indeed the last person they were waiting for.
The two exchanged a tacit glance and continued eating, acting completely natural. From time to time, they observed the targets, hoping to glean some information from their actions, but the three showed no signs of abnormality.
Soon, one of the targets finished his meal and stood up, preparing to leave. When he walked past another target, he discreetly left a note on the table.
Wolf and Renante were observing them so they noticed his actions.
"I will follow him. You stay here and watch the other two." Without waiting for his response, Renante stood up and left.
...
Renante kept his eyes on the target, but deliberately maintained a distance so the other party wouldn’t notice that someone was following him.
He is cautious. He has been walking in circles since he left the restaurant.
Sir Caecus is right. This guy is an elite spy.
Renante no longer hesitated. He sped up and grabbed the man by the shoulders. "What’s up, buddy? I want to talk with you."
The man was shocked, not expecting anyone to suddenly grab him. "Sir, what’s going on?"
Renante smiled faintly, exerting more strength in his hand. "Don’t worry. I only have a few questions for you."
Sensing that something was wrong, the man tried to break free from his grasp and sprinted as fast as he could. However, how could he outrun a trained Knight like Renante?
In just a few seconds, he felt a strong force gripping him by the neck.
"S-Someone is committing murder! Help!" He was terrified and could only resort to this, hoping to get some help from the crowd.
"Hey, young man! What are you doing?" Someone from the crowd stepped forward and pointed at Renante.
Many people were also attracted by the commotion and immediately surrounded them.
Seeing this, Renante frowned.
Troublesome.
He took out a token from his pocket and showed it to the crowd. "I am a Knight of House Silversword. This guy is suspected of spying on our noble house and I was sent here to capture him. I apologize for disturbing your peace."
When the crowd heard that he was from House Silversword, their faces eased up.
"So it’s a respected warrior from House Silversword! There is no need for you to apologize, sir!"
"We didn’t know that Sir Knight was apprehending a criminal. Please forgive our offense."
Renante waved his hand and pocketed the token. "Please make way, everyone. I need to send this criminal back to the mansion."
As soon as he said this, the crowd immediately parted, giving him enough space to leave.
...
Meanwhile, Wolf had already taken care of the two remaining targets. He tied them up and brought them to the pre-arranged meetup location.
When he arrived, he saw that Renante was already there, holding the first target.
"You’re finally here. Let’s go. We can’t keep Sir Caecus waiting."
The two headed home with the captured targets and directly brought them to Caecus.
"Sir, we have brought the targets."
Caecus glanced at the tied-up men and calmly nodded. "Leave them here. You two may leave."
Wolf looked like he wanted to say something, but he hesitated.
Caecus noticed this and said. "I know you two are curious, but it’s best that you don’t ask questions for now. When there is enough information, I will inform you then."
Hearing this, Wolf and Renante nodded.
"We understand."
"Leave." Caecus sent them off.
...
The next day, Caecus went to find Alaric to report his findings.
"Your Highness, here are the results of my investigations." He handed a few pieces of paper to Alaric.
Alaric took the documents and read them with a serious face.
While he was going through them, Caecus spoke. "There are several inconsistencies in their statements. You can see here..."
He showed the discrepancies in the stories of the men.
"I interrogated them and discovered that they are spies from Parahan."
Alaric raised an eyebrow. "Do you mean that empire on the southern side of Veronica?"
Parahan was a big nation that was in control of several smaller kingdoms. Just on land size alone, it was twice as big as Astania. They also have more than ten Venerables and a large number of Heroics.
(Note: Heroic = Transcendent Knight)
"Yes." Caecus nodded, confirming his guess.
Alaric frowned. "Why would they spy on our activities?"
Caecus shook his head. "Unfortunately, none of them is aware of the exact details. They are only following the orders of their leader, a Transcendent Knight named Ronn."
Alaric’s face became serious. He could sense that another trouble was brewing.
"I have already sent two of our Transcendent Knights to capture the man. They should be here any time now." Caecus added.
"Who did you send to capture him?" Alaric asked.
"I sent Sir Butch and Sir Warrick," Caecus replied.
"If it’s the two of them, it should be fine. Let me know if they are here. I want to speak with this Ronn myself." Alaric instructed.
"I understand." Caecus didn’t linger and left right away.
Alaric went back to his room, his face gloomy.
Parahan... I hope you won’t cause trouble for me...
...
Dammit! How did they discover us so quickly?!
Ronn heard about the capture of his men so he didn’t hesitate to leave House Choi. He disguised himself and used a secluded route to get out of the city.
Just then, at the corner of his eyes, he noticed two shadows atop the roof of a building.
His heart skipped a beat.
Two Transcendents!
He sensed the formidable aura of the two and immediately recognized their level. His mind churned as he quickly tried to come up with an escape plan.
"You must be Ronn. I suggest that you don’t do anything. I don’t want this to get rough."
One of the two Transcendent Knights jumped off the roof and landed in front of him.
Whoosh!
